Lionel Messi ‘in talks with Saudi giants over shock transfer that would see him face Cristiano Ronaldo'

LIONEL MESSI is reportedly in talks over a sensational transfer that will see him once more come up against great rival Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi is said to be in talks to join Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli. 2 2 A switch to Saudi from the MLS would see Messi reunite with long term rival Ronaldo, who currently plays for Al Nassr. There was uncertainty about the Portuguese icon's future before recently signing a new blockbuster deal with the Saudi side until 2027. After leaving PSG back in 2023, Messi was heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League where the 38-year-old was said to have been offered a staggering £294million-a-year offer from Al Hilal. Since joining Inter Miami, the Argentine forward has recorded 52 goals and 25 assists in just 64 games and also helped the David Beckham owned side pick up their first piece of silverware. The former Barcelona and PSG superstar's contract in Florida is due to expire in December and while the club have been pushing to negotiate new terms, the World Cup winner continues to be linked with a move away from America. The Argentine already has connections with the Middle East having signed a three year deal worth £18.4million with Saudia Arabia's Tourism Authority. According to L'Equipe Al Ahli are doing everything they can to make a move for Messi happen. If the star many consider to be the GOAT joined the Saudi side, he would become team-mates with former Premier League stars such as Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mahrez and Ivan Toney. But the most excitement would surround him renewing his rivalry with Ronaldo. The pair met many times when they both played in Europe, with Messi just edging his rival with 22 goals to 21 across their 36 clashes.

Former Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran joins new club after just six months in Saudi Arabia

Former Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran has agreed a loan move to Fenerbahce just six months after joining Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. Duran, who has scored three goals in 17 appearances for the Columbian national side, headed to Saudi Arabia in a deal worth £71m in January, but will relocate again to Istanbul to link up with Jose Mourinho 's side. In a statement, the Turkish Superlig club said: "Our club has reached an agreement with both the club and the player for Jhon Duran to join our squad on a one-year loan. "We wish our player a season full of success under our striped jersey." Duran joined Villa from Chicago Fire in 2023 and scored 20 goals in 78 games, but could not dislodge England's Ollie Watkins as Unai Emery's first-choice option up front. A further 12 goals in just 18 games for Al-Nassr helped the club to a third place finish in the Saudi Pro League last season. Cristiano Ronaldo put pen to paper on a new two-year deal with the club last month, with former Liverpool forward Sadio Mane and ex-Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte among the other foreign players currently in their squad. Fenerbahce finished second behind rivals Galatasaray in Mourinho's first season in charge.

Why Manchester United failed in Victor Osimhen pursuit as he chooses next club

Manchester United were interested in signing Victor Osimhen this summer, but the striker is not set for Premier League, choosing a surprising path instead. The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli and enjoyed great success in Türkiye. He scored 37 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions and won both the Super Lig and the Turkish Cup. Italian publication Corriere dello Sport report that, despite interest from elsewhere, Osimhen wants to continue his career with Galatasaray and make his loan move permanent. Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal have made an offer to sign the Nigeria international, but he has rejected it, while there is also interest from Juventus and Manchester United. Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu reports that the Red Devils made contact over a possible move, but asked Osimhen to take a wage cut which he turned down. Instead he is intent on returning to Galatasaray, although there is the small matter of a transfer fee to be sorted out. The prolific forward has a release clause of €75m (£64.7m) in his Napoli contract and the Serie A champions are not willing to negotiate on that figure. Galatasaray can get their man, but they must stump up the full fee, which they are yet to do. Al Hilal is the only club so far to meet the release clause, while they also offered Osimhen an eye-watering €40m (£34.5m) per season, but he has rejected the approach as he wants to remain in Europe. As long as Galatasaray have not found the £64.7m to pay for Osimhen, then there remains hope for other suitors, but he is reportedly set on moving back to Turkey. It is another blow for Manchester United in their pursuit of a new striker, having seemingly missed out on Viktor Gyokeres as well. The Sporting forward was a target for the Red Devils, with manager Ruben Amorim keen to work with his former player again. However, the Swede now appears set for Arsenal, with talks at an advanced stage and Gyokeres making it clear that he wants to join the Gunners. More Trending Ollie Watkins is another target for Manchester United, but The Athletic report that Aston Villa do not intend on selling the England international this summer. With deals proving tricky to agree, the Red Devils have also been linked with Dominic Calvert-Lewin who is available on a free transfer after leaving Everton. A move for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo is still being pursued but Manchester United are yet to meet the Bees' £70m valuation. As yet, Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Paraguayan teenager Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno remain the only new arrivals this summer.
