
OTS for property tax defaulters extended till August 31

'The OTS scheme is applicable on total pending tax or partially paid. It enables property owners to pay their outstanding taxes with a waiver on interest and penalty. Property owners who settle their dues by August 31 will benefit from this exemption. After the deadline, a 50% penalty will be imposed on any outstanding amount,' the minister said.

Deadline of tax settlement scheme extended again
Ludhiana: The deadline for the one-time settlement scheme for property tax dues has been extended for the third time, allowing residents to pay their outstanding dues without any interest and penalty until the end of August. The civic body has so far collected Rs 19 crore from outstanding dues under this scheme. However, against the annual property tax target of Rs 160 crore for this fiscal, the MC officials have collected Rs 43 crore until now. The officials claimed they will increase the pace of recovery of dues in the coming month when people clear the tax for this fiscal to avail of a 10% rebate. The PGs and migrant quarters are on the radar of the MC teams, as checking is ongoing in some areas to catch hold of the defaulters. The OTS was launched on May 15, and the defaulters were given time until July 31 to pay up. The deadline was extended to Aug 15 and now to August 31. The officials claimed they have sent teams for checking in areas like BRS Nagar, Rajguru Nagar, and the backyard of the DC office complex, where commercial activities have increased. By the end of September, they expect the total tax collection to cross Rs 100 crore. MC superintendent Vivek Verma said, "The govt is giving a chance to the defaulters to clear their dues without any interest and penalty, and it the payment deadline has been extended for the third time. These residents will then take care of the drugs awareness programmes in the colonies and stage nukkad nataks. They will take care of drug-related activities in the colonies and inform police. After the state government extended the one time settlement (OTS) policy for pending property tax till August 31, 2025 for welfare of residents, municipal corporation (MC) commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal has appealed the residents to take maximum benefit of the policy and submit the pending property tax without any penalty or interest by August 31, 2025. The officials have been directed to reach out to the public at large and spread awareness among them. The pending tax can be submitted at the suvidha kendras situated in the zonal offices of the civic body. Dachalwal appealed to the residents to avail the facility and submit the pending property tax without penalty and interest by August 31, 2025. Later, MC commissioner Dachalwal also held a meeting with the building branch officials wherein the concerned assistant town planners (ATP) of all the four zones were directed to expedite the recovery of dues from the residents. Further they were also directed to act strict against illegal constructions.
