Man turns up at police station with stab wound

Yahoo20-07-2025
A man turned up at a police station with a stab wound, prompting an investigation.
Leicestershire Police said the man, aged in his 20s, arrived at the Market Harborough station's car park in a Land Rover Defender just after 20:00 BST on Saturday.
He received treatment from officers within the station before being taken to hospital with serious injuries, the force added.
No arrests have been made but an investigation to establish the circumstances of the stabbing is under way with police appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Det Sgt Vicki Hudson, from the force's complex investigation team, said: "Our enquiries are continuing today and I believe there are people who can provide information that can help.
"We believe this is an isolated incident but I'd urge anyone who has information about it and has not yet contacted police to do so.
"Anything you can tell us, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, could be important."

Over 100 car break-ins overnight Monday, despite this police say they are making progress

Minneapolis Police Department says three juveniles are in custody in connection with the city's car break-in spree. Over 100 break-ins were reported overnight throughout Minneapolis and its suburbs. This marks roughly 580 reported break-ins since July 15. On Tuesday when the sun came up near 41st and Vincent. "You can't really drive when they're breaking the windows of your cars," said Will Ackerman, who lives in Minneapolis' Linden Hills neighborhood. It's clean up time for both Will Ackerman and his grandma across the street. "This is a lot of cars, a lot of damage," said his grandma Berde Ackerman. Minneapolis Police say over 100 cars were broken into overnight Monday into Tuesday across town and several suburbs. That brings the total to more than 580 since July 15th, when MPD says the spree began. "Stopping this problem has been one of our top priorities," said Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara. "We have recovered two stolen vehicles earlier today we believe were involved in some of the damage, and we have three juveniles now in custody." Minneapolis Police say they're still looking for others involved in the hundreds of break-ins, the problem is expanding. Bloomington was hit in July with 40 cars smashed in the Great Wolf Lodge parking lot. Police in Edina arrested six people in connection with similar crimes earlier. But catching the prowlers is only part of the solution. Prosecuting presents another problem. "In order to have a case against someone for one particular vehicle, we have ve to be able to prove a specific person damaged a specific vehicle," O'Hara added. Making investigations into each and every report, like Berde Ackerman's, extremely labor intensive. "It happens everywhere, but I didn't think it wouldn't happen here," said Ackerman. Chief O'Hara says they believe separate juvenile groups are causing the spree. He asks you to call 911 if you see or hear something right away. The quicker they respond, the easier it is for them to catch the suspects.

DOJ prosecutor investigating New York Attorney General Letitia James seen posing for photos outside of her home

Ed Martin, President Donald Trump's Justice Department weaponization chief, called for the resignation of New York Attorney General Letitia James and posed for photos outside of her Brooklyn home last week – all as he is conducting investigations into her conduct. His investigation of James, whose office brought civil fraud charges against Trump, his adult sons, and the Trump Organization resulting in a half-billion-dollar judgment last year, is one of several the Justice Department has launched into the president's perceived enemies. But since beginning of the investigation into James, Martin has taken several unusual steps that fall outside the norms of prosecutorial conduct. He sent a letter to James' attorney Abbe Lowell on August 12 suggesting New York's top law enforcement officer resign, he appeared outside of James' home with a colleague trailed by a photographer for the New York Post, and appeared on Fox News pledging to take an expansive look into all of James' conduct. In video obtained by CNN, Martin can be seen posing for photos outside of James' home. 'This is a criminal investigation, not social media,' said Elie Honig, CNN's senior legal analyst. 'A stunt like that might get clicks, but it's patently inappropriate for a prosecutor to do and it certainly will give James and her attorney a basis to oppose any indictment, to argue it was prejudicial to the jury pool and that an indictment was brought in bad faith.' The conduct is 'outside the bounds of DOJ and ethics rules,' Lowell said in a response to Martin. Justice Department policy generally prohibits discussing criminal investigations publicly, and attorneys are not supposed to pursue investigations for political means or to go on fishing expeditions. DOJ declined to comment for this story. Martin's job titles and investigations Martin, a ring-wing firebrand who pushed a retribution agenda that caught Trump's attention, holds four titles at the Justice Department: US Pardon Attorney, Special Attorney for Mortgage Fraud, Associate Deputy Attorney General, and director of the Weaponization Working Group. He is also investigating another Trump enemy, Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff of California, who led congressional investigations into the 2016 presidential election. Both James and Schiff deny any wrongdoing. 'We're gonna go to the very bottom of the facts, and if somebody did something wrong, we're not only gonna hold them accountable, we're also gonna look at everything else that they've been doing. Because when you're a liar, you lie not just on one thing,' Martin said on Fox News on Sunday. 'When you're a cheater, you cheat not just on one thing. When you're doing corruption, you generally don't just do it on one thing.' Grand juries in Virginia and New York are investigating James, people familiar with the matter have told CNN. The New York grand jury subpoenaed James and is looking into her investigations into the Trump Organization and the National Rifle Association. A separate investigation in Virginia is looking into whether she committed mortgage fraud on loan applications. Lowell punched back in a letter Monday to Martin addressing his call for her resignation, 'Let me be clear: that will not happen here.' 'Were there any doubts as to your political retributive mission, you erased them in your first statements about your appointment when you stated that your assignment is to 'stick the landing.' A responsible and credible federal prosecutor is not a pommel horse gymnast,' Lowell wrote. Lowell has said the investigations are on 'baseless and long-discredited allegations.' Before entering government, Martin was an organizer in the 'Stop the Steal' movement that claimed the 2020 election was rigged and later defended numerous people charged in the January 6, 2021, riot on the US Capitol. Martin was tapped by Trump to serve as interim US attorney for the District of Columbia, where he quickly moved to dismiss January 6-related cases and fired prosecutors involved in them. His tenure was tumultuous, and his nomination was dropped after bipartisan opposition. Martin said Sunday on Fox that he was in New York and New Jersey for meetings last week and went to view James' home. 'I wanted to lay eyes on it,' he said. 'You gotta get a sense of what is actually at stake.'

Thieves steal pink diamond worth $25 million, caught hours later

Dubai police said on Monday they caught three thieves just hours after they stole a precious pink diamond worth $25 million. "The Dubai Police General Command has foiled the theft of a very rare pink diamond, valued at $25 million," the police said in a statement shared by the United Arab Emirates' official news agency WAM. A diamond trader who had brought the jewel from Europe was lured to a villa by a crime gang under the pretense of a viewing by a potential wealthy client, police said. But the gem was stolen when the diamond dealer arrived for the bogus inspection, the statement added. "I just had a problem," a man can be heard saying on an emergency call released by the Dubai Media Office. "I came to meet a client to sell a diamond to them. They looked at the stone and now ... it's stolen." Within eight hours three people from an unspecified Asian country were arrested "thanks to the efforts of specialized and field teams, and by using the latest artificial intelligence technologies," police said. Video footage shared by the Dubai Media Office showed the three men with their faces blurred after their arrest as well as CCTV footage of the gang. Dubai is an important hub for diamond trading. Tightly controlled and policed, the UAE prides itself on its security and stability. The heist came just days after police said a group of thieves stole $2 million of merchandise from a family-owned jewelry store in Seattle in a daylight robbery that took only 90 seconds. Alaska Sen.
