Ranbir Kapoor Dropped THIS Veteran Singers Biopic For Nitesh Tiwaris Ramayana- Check Details

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has already generated buzz with his upcoming movie Ramayana, where he will be seen portraying Lord Ram. The much-anticipated film will be released in two parts the first in Diwali 2026 and the second in Diwali 2027. However, this commitment came at the cost of another major project. In a conversation with BBC News, director Anurag Basu revealed that Ranbir Kapoor had to let go of the long-awaited biopic of legendary singer Kishore Kumar. 'Ranbir had a tough choice in life — Kishore Kumar or Ramayana. It was very difficult for him. In the end, he chose Ramayana, and I think it was the right decision,' Basu said. Basu, who was set to direct the biopic, has previously collaborated with Ranbir on acclaimed films like Barfi (2012) and Jagga Jasoos (2017). The duo has often expressed their desire to work together again, but conflicting schedules have stood in the way. 'We keep trying to work together, but it's just not happening,' Basu added. A report by Indian Express stated that after Ranbir turned down the biopic, Aamir Khan was reportedly considered for the role of Kishore Kumar. However, Basu did not confirm this and told Mid-Day, 'Until everything is finalised and the contract is signed, I don't think I should speak on it. This project has seen many ups and downs over the years. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it happens this time and I go on set with the story, which I've been trying to tell for the last decade. I won't jinx it by speaking about it.' Apart from Ranbir Kapoor, Ramayana also stars Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, Arun Govil, Ravi Dubey, and Lara Dutta. The two-part epic is set to hit theatres on Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027. Meanwhile, Anurag Basu's directorial Metro... In Dino premiered theatrically on July 4 and received positive reviews. His next film, starring Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela, is reportedly scheduled for release in 2026.

Sudipto Sen on Best Director win at National Awards: Vindication of our 10-year struggle

Director Sudipto Sen won Best Director for 'The Kerala Story' at the 71st National Film Awards. The film sparked nationwide debate and conversation upon its release in 2023. In an exclusive chat with India Today, Sen called the honour a validation of years of research, perseverance, and public support."Naturally, I'm feeling great,' Sen said shortly after the National Awards win. "But I would have been even happier if the film had also received the principal award. Still, it's a vindication of what we set out to communicate.'advertisementStarring Adah Sharma, 'The Kerala Story' was released in 2023 and was met with both overwhelming public support and heated controversy. Despite the polarising discourse, the film went on to become a box office hit. Sen recalled how 'The Kerala Story' started as a modest project but received massive attention and appreciation post-release.'We already got our award in the form of audience blessings. Even two years after release, people are still talking about the film on social media. On OTT platforms, we were in the top 10 for nearly 35 weeks out of 70. That's the kind of love and engagement we witnessed," he film, which focused on the alleged ISIS recruitment model in India, struck a nerve among audiences despite its modest budget and limited marketing."We didn't expect it to become so big. After a decade of research and struggle, this award feels like a reward for that journey," he asked whether the National Award felt like closure following the controversies surrounding the film, Sen acknowledged the initial backlash but insisted that the narrative changed once people watched the film.'Yes, there was controversy in the beginning, but that faded as audiences realised the film wasn't about religion—it was about a very real and serious issue. ISIS's model of recruitment had impacted parts of Europe and America, and we were showing how it had roots in India too, particularly Kerala,' Sen added that 'The Kerala Story' was often mislabelled due to political sensitivities in the country, especially around the word 'Muslim'.'People assumed it was Islamophobic, but it wasn't. Once they saw it, they understood it was about terrorism—not religion. And ironically, the controversy helped us. We didn't need to spend on publicity. People organically found their personal connection to the film.'Sen began working on the project in 2012, and his collaborator from Kerala, Ambika JK, had been involved since 2010. For the director, the award isn't just recognition—it's the culmination of over a decade of hard asked if he had spoken to anyone since the news broke, Sen shared that he had just spoken to actor Adah Sharma, who played the lead has been our biggest inspiration—on and off-screen,' he he celebrated with friends and colleagues, Sen was clearly overwhelmed.'It's a happy moment. We're just grateful,' he signed Kerala Story is currently streaming on Zee5.- EndsMust Watch

'I dedicate it to all the incredible mothers of this world,' says Rani Mukerji on winning her first National Award in 30 years for Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway

New Delhi [India], August 1 (ANI): Rani Mukerji, who bagged her first-ever National Film Award nearly 30 years after entering the film industry, says she feels "overwhelmed" to have received the honour. The award, for Best Actress, was announced for her powerful role in 'Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway,' where she played a mother fighting to bring her children back home. Her first National Award feels like a full-circle moment, one that her fans and the film industry will remember for a long time. Calling it a big moment in her long journey in cinema, the 'Mardaani' actress shared her feelings in her statement, where she reflected on the "incredible films" she has done and thanked the jury for recognizing her work. Rani also shared the joy of the win with the team behind the film, calling it a "truly special project." "I'm overwhelmed to have won the National Award for my performance in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. Incidentally, this is the first-ever National Award in my 30-year career. As an actor, I have been fortunate to have some incredible films in my body of work and have received so much love for them. I thank the National Award jury for honoring my work in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. I share this moment with the entire team of the film--my producers Nikkhil Advani, Monisha, and Madhu, my director Ashima Chibber, and everyone who worked on this truly special project that celebrated the resilience of motherhood," she said. Rani also added that for her, this award means more than just recognition for a single film and shared that the honor is very "emotional and personal" for her, as the film's message is close to her heart. "I dedicate my National Award to all the incredible mothers of this world. There is nothing like a mother's love and her ferocity to protect her own. The story of this Indian immigrant mother, who went all out for her child and took on a nation, shook me deeply... a mother's love for her child is unconditional," she said. "I realised this when I had my own. So, this win, this film, feels deeply emotional and personal. A mother can move mountains for her children and also make the world a better place. This film tried to show this," Rani added. Rani's role in 'Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway' is based on the real-life case of Sagarika Chakraborty, whose children were taken by the Norwegian government in 2011. Rani plays Debika, the mother who fights the foreign legal system to bring her kids back. Since her debut in 'Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat' in 1996, Rani has built a strong career. From winning hearts with 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' in 1998 to playing bold and fearless women in many films, she has always chosen roles that show strength and emotion. (ANI)
