A man has been charged with attempted murder after a knife attack outside a supermarket which saw a television star come to the rescue.
Passersby and shoppers at Aldi in the Bevois area of Southampton saw a man brandishing a knife outside the shop on Sunday afternoon.
Large swathes of the supermarket car park were cordoned off by police after the incident, during which video captured the moment two police officers handcuffed a man on the pavement nearby.
What appears to be a knife can be seen on the road nearby.
Sohail Chowdhary, who appeared on The Apprentice in 2022, was one of the first people on the scene after three people were injured or threatened with the blade.
He told the Daily Echo he and three others tried to distract the suspect while others ran to safety.
Sohail also pulled the suspect off a father-to-be who had fallen over while trying to get away.
He said: 'We went to go have a look. We saw a guy with a helmet, then we saw the other guy had a knife.
'We were a bit like what the heck. The amount of blood he had on his knife we weren't going to risk that.
'[The man on the floor] told me afterwards that he has a kid on the way so thank god he didn't get stabbed.'
Sohail along with one of his colleagues at Limitless Martial Arts, the gym he owns, and two of his students, got involved to try and distract the suspect while waiting for the police to arrive.
Describing how his staff and students reacted to the incident, he said: 'I am just proud of these guys.
'I wasn't expecting that on a Sunday morning. It could have been a lot worse. More Trending
'This incident has made many of us more alert. We will now be actively ensuring that all our students, adults and children alike, are aware of what to do in emergency situations, both inside and outside of class.
'It makes me more and more grateful to not only change lives, but to now officially save lives.'
Azzedvie Mahmoudi, 46, of Cobbett Road, Southampton, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder, one of attempted GBH, three of threatening a person with a blade or sharply pointed article in a public place, and one of possessing a blade or sharp pointed article in a public place.
He is in custody and is set to appear at Southampton magistrates court this morning.

Nickelodeon star files for divorce after 4 years of marriage

Former Nickelodeon star Drake Bell has reportedly filed for divorce after four years of marriage. The Drake and Josh star, 39, dated actress and model Janet Von Schmeling for five years before getting married in 2018. During their four-year marriage, Bell and Schmeling had son Wyatt together, born in 2021. In 2023, she filed for divorce, citing 'irreconcilable differences.' According to TMZ at the time, she requested legal and physical custody of their son, as well as spousal support and visitation rights for Bell. The publication suggests that there was 'no movement' in the case until last year, when the court reportedly requested both parties to meet to expedite proceedings. TMZ claim that Bell has filed for divorce himself, putting in his own petition from Florida. The couple are said to have been separated since 2022. According to Bell, he first found out that his wife planned to divorce him via social media. When the news broke on TMZ in 2023, he tweeted: 'I found out my wife filed for divorce from TMZ…check out my new song.' This came only a week after he had been reported missing and 'endangered' by Daytona Beach Police. Hours later, a spokesperson told 'At this time we can confirm law enforcement officials are in contact and Mr Bell is safe.' The Orange County Sheriff's Office added that the actor had been found in their jurisdiction 'unharmed' at around 11.30am, and deputies had taken action to make sure he received a 'mental health evaluation'. Bell joked about the situation afterwards, Tweeting: 'You leave your phone in the car and don't answer for the night and this?' Bell has experienced a troubled personal life since leaving Nickelodeon. In 2021, he was accused of having inappropriate conversations with a 15-year-old online that were sexual in nature. During the subsequent hearing, the actor pleaded guilty to the attempted endangerment of children, a fourth-degree felony, and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, a first-degree misdemeanour. After someone on social media branded him a sex offender, Bell responded: 'Do a second of research. This is what I have to live with everyday. They are literally going to kill me.' In another tweet, he added: 'In a separate tweet he added: 'Noooo Immmm Nooooooottttt [a paedophile]!!!! You people are going to kill me.' He went on to tell another user: 'Nooooo I wasn't!! You people are destroying my life.' Last year, the former child star came forward to allege that he was himself a victim of sexual abuse by dialogue coach and now-convicted sex offender Brian Peck. In the Investigation Discovery series Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,Bell claimed that he had been 15 years old when the abuse happened. Peck worked as a dialogue coach on Nickelodeon's The Amanda Show, which Bell had starred in from 1999 to 2002. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video In August 2003, Peck was arrested on more than a dozen charges related to sexual abuse allegations involving an unnamed minor. More Trending The following year he pleaded no contest to performing a lewd act with a 14 or 15-year-old and to oral copulation with a minor under 16. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender. View More » has reached out to Drake Bell's representatives for comment. Got a story? Shannon Matthews detective reveals moment ‘bewildered' girl was found

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video An investigator searching for Shannon Matthews has described the moment the nine-year-old girl was found tied-up and hidden by her own mum as part of a fake abduction plot. Missing Shannon had seemingly vanished on her walk home from swimming in February 2008, with her mum Karen Matthews crying on camera appealing for the safe return of her daughter. After 24 days of searching, investigators found her bound and heavily drugged in a drawer in a grotty council flat just a few miles from where she had supposedly disappeared from. Mick Donovan had kidnapped the schoolgirl with Karen in an attempt to claim a £50,000 reward for her return, even trying to extort money from the Find Madeleine McCann fund. Detective Constable Nick Townsend was part of the team of detectives who spent sleepless nights trying to locate missing Shannon. But recalling the moment he saw her for the first time, he revealed the team feared she was close to being seriously harmed by Donovan. He said: 'When the lady who lived in the flat below heard the tiny footsteps of a toddler coming from Donovan's flat, I said we need to get in here. 'We made a determined effort to rouse him to get him to come to the door, but he wouldn't answer. 'My fear was then that he knew that we were here. Could he be doing any harm to whoever was in there or to himself, knowing the game was up?' With the help of the Operational Support Unit, officers were able to force their way into the council flat, finding the 'bewildered' schoolgirl beneath Donovan's bed. Speaking on documentary The Hunt for Shannon Matthews, Nick added: 'You could hear a lot of banging and crashing, smashing of woodwork. 'I went up the staircase and as I got to the top, my colleague appeared from inside the flat carrying Shannon in his arms saying, 'I found her, I found her, under the bed'.' Karen was jailed for eight years, while Shannon was given a new identity and removed from her family's care. Dovonan was also jailed for eight years and was disowned by his family following the plot, and died in prison in April 2024 reportedly not having a single visitor in the last few months of his life. He had insisted he was 'only looking after' the terrified schoolgirl that people 'would understand' why he kidnapped her if he was allowed to share his side of the story. Cancel your weekend plans to binge Sheridan Smith's 'outstanding' Netflix drama

It looks like Netflix subscribers are discovering a Sheridan Smith crime drama that first aired on ITV in 2012. Mrs Biggs is climbing up the streamer's ranking of the platform's top 10 TV shows – making a convincing argument for a mid-August weekend watch. Smith – who has so many British dramas to her name it can be easy to let one slip – stars in this five-part drama, which is based on the true story of the Great Train Robbery. The drama focuses on the relationship between Charmian, played by Smith, and Ronnie Biggs, played by Daniel Mays. It follows everything from their first lovestruck meeting and the fateful 1963 train heist, to its aftermath and their eventual divorce in 1976, after Biggs fathered a child in Brazil. We see the petty crook meet his soon-to-be wife on, of all places, a train. 'The future is full of possibilities,' he tells her. 'The past will only drag you down.' With that, the Biggs couple set off on a crime spree before they eventually decide to settle down for a quiet married life. That is, until the 'one last job' pops up in the chance to join the train robbers. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Some labelled the drama a sanitised version of events, but it was inspired by a letter Biggs sent to his wife following the death of their son Nicholas. Biggs's former wife Charmian was also a consultant on the show. The show's writer and executive producer Jeff Pope said he wanted to set out a romantic tale, rather than a romanticised one. 'We show Ron as perhaps a little too wilfully optimistic and Charmian is the cold voice of reason throughout. It absolutely would be a danger of a piece like this to romanticise it,' he told The Guardian. 'It will get laughed out of court if it's a slushfest. In the first episode, they steal, he strikes her, we acknowledge the fact he had a criminal record; further down the line, Charmian has an abortion by another man. We don't pull back, we don't flinch.' Praised at the time of its release for the quality of the acting and the excitement of the episodes, TV viewers have shared their positive reception over the years, as Mrs Biggs has been available on ITVX as well as Netflix. Taking to X, @AshWoody90 praised: 'Mrs Biggs on Netflix, possibly one the best things I have ever watched.' More Trending @elliot_gonzalez commended the creative partnership between the show's writer and star, writing: 'Jeff Pope and Sheridan Smith should always work together. Mrs Biggs, The Widower, Cilla and now The Moorside. All outstanding work.' @TVChatty wrote: 'All week I've been watching Mrs Biggs on ITV3. Why did I not watch it first time? Fantastic story and great acting. Really enjoyed it.' @lizcurran echoed: 'Sheridan Smith is wonderful in Mrs Biggs – she is one of my favourite actors. Utterly mesmerising – always.'
