Current anti-Pakistan atmosphere might have triggered mob lynching: BJP MLA Bharat Shetty
MANGALURU: BJP MLA Bharat Shetty on Thursday said the mob lynching incident in Kudupu may have been an accidental attack triggered by the current anti-Pakistan atmosphere in the country.
He claimed the situation might have escalated due to anger against pro-Pakistan slogans and dismissed suggestions that the attack was planned.
Addressing a press conference in Mangaluru, Bharat Shetty said, "There is a pro-war atmosphere against Pakistan after the terror attack in our country. But the sleeper cells and terror sympathisers are attacking those who burn Pakistan flags in our country."
"At Kudupu, as per the information available, the person had raised pro-Pakistan slogans and the people present there were genuinely angered hence the situation might have gone out of control. It was an accidental death, not a planned murder as it is being portrayed by some parties. Congress and the SDPI are giving a political colour to the incident. District Congress president Harish Kumar has gone one step further and blamed a person named Ravindra Nayak responsible for the attack," he said.

AGTF seizes marijuana worth 2cr, arrests five for smuggling in Jaipur
1 2 3 4 Jaipur: In a major crackdown on interstate drug smuggling, Rajasthan's Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Friday seized 424 kg of marijuana concealed in a truck and arrested five individuals, including the alleged kingpin in Jaipur. The seized consignment, valued at approximately Rs 2 crore in the international market, was being trafficked from Chhattisgarh to Jaipur under the guise of a medical delivery. According to ADG (Crime and AGTF) Dinesh M N, the AGTF team intercepted a Scorpio SUV at the Shivdaspura toll, which was found escorting a mini-truck. Based on a tip-off, the police set up a blockade at multiple locations. The truck was later seized in the Chaksu police station area, loaded with sacks of marijuana hidden beneath boxes labelled as medicines. The arrested accused include Sumer Meena (48), the alleged ringleader and a resident of Khorabisal, Jaipur West; Narendra Singh Jat (45); Nanagram Balai (55); Deepak Gurjar (38); and Himanshu Mata (29) of Karnal, Haryana. All five were booked under the NDPS Act. When the Scorpio stopped at Shivdaspura toll, the truck was still on its way to Jaipur. Upon learning about the interception, the truck drivers attempted to flee into the fields near Chaksu but were quickly arrested. A thorough search of the vehicle revealed the contraband beneath cartons of medicine. Police officials said that Sumer Meena previously managed to transport similar consignments on at least two occasions but was finally nabbed on this third run. His role in earlier drug hauls is now under further scrutiny. This would mean Tehran's counter-intelligence network has failed on multiple fronts. Meanwhile, Trump appears to be threatening more Israeli military action against Iran if Tehran doesn't do a fresh deal with Washington on its nuclear programme. US and Iran have been engaging in talks over the matter. But Washington's position that Tehran abandon its nuclear programme hasn't cut ice with the Iranian regime. But if the strikes were meant to be a harsh message to the Ayatollahs, they may end up having the opposite effect – Tehran could accelerate a nuclear weapons programme and quit NPT. That in turn would increase tensions with the Gulf Arab states, and the Saudis may push their case for a nuclear programme. The impact of all this on energy prices could be acute. Price of crude has already leapt by 9% and could head further north. Supply chains may again take a hit given important sea lanes in the region. Not to forget undersea cables that could be targeted or weaponised. For India too things get complicated. Iran provides our potential alternative trade route to Afghanistan via Chabahar port. The same route links up to International North-South Transport Corridor for Central Asia. But prolonged chaos in the region puts all of this under a cloud. An escalatory military conflict between Tel Aviv and Tehran is not in the world's interest. But Netanyahu, the Ayatollahs and Trump may have other ideas. Ludhiana: Can an election be so devoid of politico-economic issues that a candidate's demeanor and public conduct become the dominant electoral issue? That's the striking message emerging from Ludhiana (West), an assembly constituency braced for a fierce contest on June 19. If the large-sized posters dotting every major roundabout and road and handouts reaching voters' doorsteps are to be believed, then apart from the routine promises of speedy delivery of development and official works, other major campaign themes are "arrogance", "respect" and "quarrelsome" nature of a candidate, who, if elected, "would keep fighting with the govt." AAP slogans target Ashu's demeanor The apparent target of this campaign is Congress nominee Bharat Bhushan Ashu and propaganda tools that are carrying this message hammer and tongs belong to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) nominee and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora, who, with numerous such billboards, has successfully dominated the propaganda landscape of the segment. Apart from his "affable personality" and "his ability to get work done from his own govt if he becomes MLA", the third reason was "arrogance and insulting behavior of an opponent." "Everyone knows how arrogant he was. He is folding hands because elections are around the corner. Once he wins, he will not even recognise you. Like what he did in past, he would insult others, he would pick quarrels…would irk masses and most importantly, he would keep quarreling with government for next two years. No cleanliness, drains blocked, garbage everywhere…there will be no development", reads a portion of a handout published in Punjabi and distributed on Thursday morning. On the other hand, in a press conference he addressed on Thursday along with senior Congress leader Pawan Khera, Ashu acknowledged he was being personally targeted through hoardings. When asked about allegations against AAP candidate, he responded, "I would not resort to such practices. That's not the kind of politics I do." Subtle replies on Cong billboards It's not that only Arora's hoardings are carrying such slogans. Slogans on Ashu's hoarding also suggest that they are written with tongue-in-cheek. The most prominent of them is "Na jhooth na laare, kam karda bahut saare (Neither lies nor false promises. He is the one who get lot of works done)." Although slogan is targeting Ashu's opponents, it still leaves the onlookers guessing as to whom Ashu is targeting with these words. Boxes Cong's Punjabi versus 'outsider' As Congress is pulling all stops to turn this elections into Punjabis versus Arvind Kejriwal contest, a very large sized hoarding installed at the main election office of Bharat Bhushan Ashu aptly delivers this message with the slogan, "Punjab de faisle, Punjabi lain ge ( Punjabis will take decisions about Punjab)." SAD's 'tuhada apna' Contrast to its traditional of contesting election on the religious-political-development plank, Shiromani Akali Dal's posters appearing somber and this time. Posters of advocate Parupkaar Singh Ghuman carry just one message: Tuhade vichon, tuhada apna (The one from amongst you, The one who is yours)" BJP's reserved approach Campaign posters and hoardings put up by BJP are also somber and avoid any negative sloganeering. Apart from routine promises of development and efficient work delivery, the posters also carry pictures of several national and state BJP leaders apart from the candidate Jiwan Gupta.
