Coolie box office collection Day 6: Rajinikanth-Lokesh Kanagaraj's pan-Indian entertainer dips further, passes Rs 400 crore worldwide

Coolie box office collection Day 6: 'Superstar' Rajinikanth's highly-anticipated first collaboration with hotshot director Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie, had a record-breaking opening at the box office. But, like most films of its kind, it has witnessed a rapid decrease in earnings almost immediately. On its first Monday, Coolie dropped by a massive 65%, but managed to cross the Rs 200 crore mark domestically. At the worldwide box office, the film has passed the Rs 400 crore mark already, pushing past its reported budget of between Rs 350 crore and Rs 400 crore.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Coolie made Rs 9.5 crore on day six of release across India, a noticeable drop from the Rs 12 crore that it made across the country on Monday. As usual, the lion's share of the revenue is coming from Tamil Nadu, while a decent chunk is coming from the film's Hindi dubbed version. Coolie hasn't made much of an impact in Karnataka and the Telugu-speaking states. But with over Rs 410 crore worldwide, it's almost certain to overtake Rajinikanth's Jailer. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer was released in 2023, and it made more than Rs 600 crore worldwide.

Coolie opened on August 14, a day prior to Independence Day, against the big-budget Hindi film War 2. Starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, the film had a major opening as well, aided by the Telugu star's fan following in his home state. However, War 2 is already being perceived as an underperformer. The movie made Rs 8.2 crore on day six, and is yet to pass the Rs 200 crore mark.
Reviews for Coolie were mixed, with Rajinikanth's die-hard fans expressing satisfaction. But the general audiences felt like there something left to be desired. High-profile cameos by Aamir Khan and Nagarjuna also raised eyebrows, as did a colouful performance by Soubin Sahir. With these three actors on board, along with Rajinikanth at the helm, the producers covered all their bases and appealed to all four of India's major film industries. However, the filmmakers have been criticised for reverse-engineering a 'pan-Indian project' from the ground-up, without catering to the 'Superstar's core audience. He will next star in Jailer 2, the sequel to his massive 2023 hit.

Some films make history in ways that surprise everyone. Imagine a movie shot in just over a week, with a tiny budget, yet it went on to earn an unimaginable amount worldwide. It was made in a simple style but created a massive impact, inspiring many future filmmakers. This film changed the way horror movies are made and proved that creativity can beat big budgets. Which film is this? Here we are talking about the 1999 cult classic The Blair Witch Project, helmed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez. Made with a budget of just around 60,000 dollars (under Rs 49 lakh) and shot in 8 days, this found-footage horror movie became a worldwide sensation. The success of this film showed how innovative storytelling and smart marketing could take a movie to extraordinary heights without huge investments. What is the storyline? The story follows three film students who venture into the woods to investigate a local legend about a witch. Using handheld cameras, they document their terrifying experience as they get lost and face strange occurrences. The raw and realistic filming style added to the suspense, making audiences feel like they were watching real footage. This unique approach sparked a new genre, found-footage horror, which remains popular today. What made The Blair Witch Project a cult classic? Several factors contributed to the film's massive success. The minimalist production saved costs, while the use of unknown actors gave it authenticity. The clever viral marketing campaign, especially online forums and fake missing-person reports, blurred the line between fiction and reality, engaging viewers deeply. Critics praised The Blair Witch Project for its originality and tension-building, even if it wasn't a traditional horror with special effects. Its influence is still seen in modern horror cinema, inspiring countless films and web series to experiment with storytelling formats.

Mahavatar Narsimha 4th Wednesday Hindi Box Office: Hombale's animated movie continues outpacing Coolie The Powerhouse

Mahavatar Narsimha, directed by Ashwin Kumar, continued wrecking the box office with the least drop of all Indian movies after 'Discount Tuesday'. The devotional animated movie added Rs 1.20 crore at the Hindi box office, taking its total closer to Rs 150 crore. The movie will cross the Rs 150 crore net Hindi mark on its 5th Friday, that is on the same day that War 2 also crosses Rs 150 crore at the Hindi box office. From here, it will be interesting to see if Mahavatar Narsimha can actually end up doing higher collections than War 2 in Hindi. The Day Wise Hindi Net India Collections Of Mahavatar Narsimha Are As Under Weeks/Days India Net Collections (Hindi) Week 1 Rs 29 crore Week 2 Rs 50 crore Week 3 Rs 48.50 crore 4th Friday Rs 5.50 crore 4th Saturday Rs 4.95 crore 4th Sunday Rs 5.95 crore 4th Monday Rs 1.50 crore 4th Tuesday Rs 1.75 crore 4th Wednesday Rs 1.20 crore Total Rs 148.35 crore in 27 days Weeks/Days Note: The collections exclude 3D handling charges Mahavatar Narsimha Heads For A Rs 300 Crore Plus Gross Worldwide Finish Mahavatar Narsimha has already crossed Rs 250 crore at the worldwide box office (all languages) and it will be target to end its run over Rs 300 crore. Seeing the trend, it should not be too hard. However, one can never absolutely be sure. Regardless, the job is done well and the upcoming movies from the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe are already among the most awaited movies in the coming years. Mahavatar Narsimha Has Shown That You Don't Need Big Actors For Your Film To Run The biggest takeaway is that these are all animated movies and don't have a star in them. The audience for the movie is purely coming on the basis of the film's content. There used to be a stigma around animated movies. But guess it is no longer there. Producers should take note and invest in making compelling animated movies. The box office will follow, and so will the audience love. Mahavatar Narsimha is going to end as one of the most profitable Indian movies of the year. The only movies with a greater profit so far are Chhaava and Saiyaara. The movie plays in theatres now. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.
