The Repair Shop's Dominic Chinea speaks out on 'difficult' move from family home

Daily Mirrora day ago

The Repair Shop expert Dominic Chinea, who has been a staple on the BBC show since 2017, has spoken out on the "difficult" move he made
Dominic Chinea, the cherished metalwork pro from The Repair Shop, has been showered with support after his significant move from Kent to Cornwall.
Dominic, who has graced our screens in The Repair Shop since 2017, excels in all things metallic. In addition to his appearances on the BBC hit show, he runs his own business and undertakes various personal endeavours.

During a candid Q&A session on his YouTube channel, Dom addressed some of the hottest queries his followers have been itching to ask.

One such query centered around his relocation to Cornwall from Kent, which Dominic described as "sad" and "difficult".
Facing the lens, he confessed: "Oh, that's a really difficult one to start with. I thought we were going to start with easy questions," reports Gloucestershire Live.
Recounting his days in Kent, he reminisced: "I lived in Kent previously, had a nice garden, nice countryside. It was very nice. But you know what? Why not? Really, moving to Cornwall has meant I've got the house, a lovely field I can turn into a nice garden, and, most importantly, a big barn that is now mine, that is my workshop."
Dominic delved into the financial gain of owning versus renting space: "Previously, I rented my old workshop, and every month, I was giving a lot of money to a landlord to rent the space. Now it's my space, and whatever I do to it, it's mine, and that is enough of a reason for me."
He also openly acknowledged the current state of his new setup: "Yeah, I will admit there's a lot of work to do, but at least it's mine, and eventually I'll get there, and it will be a decent workshop once again."

Concluding on an optimistic note, he added, "But for the minute, I'm slightly compromised, but I'm working on it. Also, Cornwall is beautiful. It's a lovely place to be."
Elsewhere, Dominic also opened up about the distance between him and his long-time mate John, who has been a key figure in his workshop projects.
Reflecting on a fan's question, the TV personality shared: "Oh, that's sad. John has been my good friend for a long, long time, years and years. I've known him since I was a kid."

Dominic revealed that relocating to Cornwall has made collaborating with his Essex-based friend John quite challenging.
He elaborated, "He is a mechanic. He's got a job-a real job and a full-time job-and he's busy. He's become more and more busy, and he's struggled to come up and spend time in the workshop, which I completely understand now that I've moved to Cornwall.

"I'm seven hours away on the West Coast. We are obviously still speaking and texting all the time. Flights are available from Essex down to Cornwall, and I'm trying to convince him to come down and trying to line up both of our schedules to have a good, long weekend down there is tricky, but we're working on it, and I'm trying my best to make it happen."
Dominic concluded with optimism, saying, "So hopefully John will be back on the channel very, very soon. We haven't fallen out. We're still good friends. We still talk."

Following the Q&A session, fans were quick to show their support in the comments section, with one expressing: "Dom, we appreciate you and all your hard work. It's okay if you miss a video here and there; no one will think less of you."
Another fan expressed admiration, saying, "Hello Dom. That Q&A was magic. You have done such a lot in a short time, and we can see how much you love it. I hope Wendy gets well. Stay safe and well yourself, and the best of luck with all your many fantastic projects!"
A third chimed in with some advice: "Don't burn yourself out, I did that doing too much, it lays you up for months, get yourself a part time helper to take that pressure off. I am better than I was but I still have to take time for myself. You are a fantastic chap, don't make yourself ill."
Another follower praised: "You are an amazing man, Dom, there's no getting away from that. I wish you every success for the future."
One concerned fan shared: "An absolutely amazing episode, Dom! Well done, and do take time for yourself, aka 'keep some reserve' (I write from experience! ). Thank you."

Fern Britton shares why she quit This Morning – but it's not what people expect

Highly regarded television presenter Fern Britton has opened up on her decision to leave This Morning in 2009 after spending an impressive 16 years working on the ITV show Fern Britton has discussed her decision to leave the popular ITV show This Morning in 2009, after years as a presenter on the programme. The 67-year-old began her broadcasting career as a newsreader on local radio stations, gradually working her way up to become the BBC's youngest national news presenter on Breakfast Time. She later took on various roles before joining GMTV as a presenter in 1993. ‌ That same year, she started guest presenting on ITV's This Morning, and by 1999, she had landed a permanent role on the show, co-presenting the Friday slot alongside John Leslie. ‌ Her role on the show became even more regular in 2002, when she began presenting alongside Phillip Schofield. However, seven years later, Fern decided to leave the programme, sparking rumours about the reasons behind her departure. There were widespread reports of a fallout with co-host Phillip, which he later commented on in his memoir, stating that their relationship "turned sour". Fern has also previously mentioned to Good Housekeeping that they are no longer friends, saying "we don't really (speak anymore)". In a recent interview on the Spooning with Mark Wogan podcast, Fern sought to provide some clarity on the situation. Revealing the key reason for her decision to step away from the show, she said: "Well, it's 17 years ago, it's a long time. And I haven't really thought about that for a long time. I had a fantastic 10 years and I loved it." ‌ She continued: "But then after a bit, I needed to be back home again, as lots of things were going on. But the boys were about to do their A Levels, going into the two years of that, and the girls as well were leaving little school to go up. I was needed at home, and they needed to come home and know there was chicken in the oven." Since her departure from the show in 2009, Fern has been a constant figure on television, participating in some of the nation's favourite reality TV programmes, including a stint on Strictly Come Dancing in 2012 where she was the fifth star to be voted off. Last year, Fern took part in ITV's Celebrity Big Brother, where she reached the final, ultimately losing out to David Potts who took home the crown. ‌ However, fans can look forward to her return to television in the near future with her very own series, Fern Britton: Inside the Vet's. The six-part series will follow Fern alongside TV vet James Greenwood as they delve into the daily workings of veterinary life, covering everything from vaccinations and sprays to dentistry and surgeries. The much-anticipated Fern Britton: Inside the Vet's is expected to premiere next month.

John Mulaney furiously weighs in as wife Olivia Munn continues to face backlash for shunning Ms Rachel's show

What started as Olivia Munn sharing which children's shows she doesn't let her kids watch has now evolved into a social-media fueled 'feud' between the 44-year-old actress and YouTube star Ms. Rachel. And it seems as though Munn's husband John Mulaney has now joined in as well. In a recent interview with People, Munn - who is mom to two kids - explained her personal preferences when it comes to the kind of children's content she allows in her household. 'I know kids love [Ms. Rachel], but the thing is, if I can't watch it, I'm not going to spend the rest of my life going crazy,' she said. Munn, 44, also shared that she avoids cartoons, noting that when her son Malcolm asked for Blue's Clues, she responded, 'Hell no. Not in my house.' But her comments sparked fierce backlash with even Ms. Rachel, 42, furiously hitting back to express her disappointment at the coverage. Now, in an Instagram story posted on June 11, Mulaney, also 42, weighed in on the matter with backlash against his wife still raging on. Against a black backdrop, he wrote: 'An innocent comment my wife Olivia Munn made about what children's programs we like has somehow - unbelievably - been conflated with not caring about the deaths of children in Gaza.' But her comments sparked fierce backlash with even Ms. Rachel, 42, furiously hitting back to express her disappointment at the coverage 'Because of this, my wife and two kids are now receiving violent and threatening comments and messages in her DMs,' he continued. 'This is absolutely insane and needs to stop. The people doing this are so wildly out of line and so unhelpful to any conversation. 'You took a nothing comment to a dark and dangerous place. 'This kind of behavior isn't activism.' After publications started covering Munn's comments, Ms. Rachel, 42, commented and posted, 'I'd rather you cover my advocacy for kids in Gaza.' Since then, Ms. Rachel fans have criticized Munn, calling her 'selfish' for not dealing with children's shows her kids may want to watch just because she didn't personally like them. Others called her comments tone deaf as Ms. Rachel is one of the few public figures actively and publicly advocating for Palestinian children. In light of his comments, many have rushed to praise Mulaney for defending his wife and added that attacking Munn 'isn't activism.' In light of his comments, Mulaney received mixed reaction from fans 'I've said it before, but this kind of "activism" gets people nowhere and actually makes people not take it seriously,' one user shared. 'Mulaney is Mr. Stand On Business when it comes to Olivia like you're not gonna say s**t about his woman and expect to get away with it,' an X (formerly Twitter) user shared. But others jumped to criticize him, pointing out that this was the first time the comedian and actor even mentioned the dying children in Gaza. 'Finally mentioning Gaza after almost two years because someone was mean to my wife,' one user mocked. 'Most of the criticisms of Munn have centered around her coming off as a selfish parent, so it's odd that Mulaney's first ever mention of Gaza is to frame it in these terms,' another said.
