Sambhal ‘critical' for BJP in all yardstick, says party's organisational in-charge

The Hindu06-05-2025
Describing Sambhal, 'critical' for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in all yardstick, organizational Election In-charge of the party in the district on Monday ()May 5, 2025) said the saffron party gave representation to 12 Caste groups in block level organization team recently, signaling caste outreach in the sensitive district.
Speaking to The Hindu, Pushkar Mishra, Organisational Election In-charge of the party said broader representation of all social segment has been the aim of the ruling party, pushing the West U.P. district as 'critical' for the BJP in all parameters.
'Giving proper representation to all social groups within the organisational and electoral structure is the working ideology of the BJP. In early, 1990s, I suggested the idea to K. N. Govindacharya to give every class and caste of the Indian society due representation. He gave a statement on 'social engineering' which was widely quoted all over, later on during the presidency of Nitin Gadkari Ji, the same blueprint was prepared to give representation to various social segments, which was executed by Shri Amit Shah Ji after 2014. Recently, as organizational in-charge of Sambhal, we gave representation to 12 caste groups as Mandal president out of 18 names declared. In the next few days, the rest two Mandal presidents will be announced. The strength of the BJP lies in its capability of giving representation to each and every section of the society, unlike other parties which are caste or family parties,' said Pushkar Mishra, organizational Election In-charge of BJP Sambhal. Mandal, similar to block is a key unit at the lower level of the BJP structure.
Out of the 18 declared presidents, nine are from Other Backward Classes (OBC) category while two hails from the Rajput community, three Brahmins. Among OBCs, one hails from Kushwaha community, two Jat, one from Saini community, three from Yadav community. One Jatav (Scheduled Caste), one Pasi (Scheduled Caste) are also giving responsibility of Mandal (block) president. There is no Muslim in the list.
On asked how he sees Sambhal, Dr. Mishra, a trained sociologist with a PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) described Sambhal 'critical' for the BJP in all yard's tick, added, 'Sambhal is one of the district that faced has riotous violence time and again throughout history, now for the first time communities which suffered, had now able to articulate concerns and political consciousness. The city is bound to become one of beacons of articulating civilizational consciousness and critical for the BJP in all yardstick,'.
Sambhal, a west U.P. town remain in limelight as it witnessed violence on November 24, the second day of the Shahi Jama Mosque survey as protesters gathered near the mosque and clashed with U.P. police personnel, leading to heavy stone pelting and alleged gun shots being fired by cops with U.P. police claimed of using 'mild force' to control the situation. Five people died and several others were injured in the clashes. U.P. police denied charges that it fired at the protesters. The Supreme Court since ordered the Sambhal trial court to halt proceedings in the case and its survey.

Kolkata man found dead, family says he ended life fearing NRC deportation

The family of a 63-year-old man who was found dead in his Kolkata residence Sunday alleged that he died by suicide since he was living in fear of being deported to Bangladesh under the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC), police said. A suicide note purportedly written by the victim, Dilip Kumar Saha, an Indian citizen, was found from the spot, police said. Saha, who reportedly moved to Kolkata from Nawabganj in Dhaka in 1972, was found hanging in his room in the Anandapally West area of Regent Park. Police said Saha's wife Arati Saha, and another relative broke into the room after he did not respond to their repeated calls. He was declared dead on arrival at a hospital. Arati claimed that her husband was under mental stress as he feared being sent to a detention camp and eventually deported to Bangladesh even as he possessed valid voter ID and other documents. Saha worked as a non-teaching staffer at a private school in Dhakuria in south Kolkata. The matter is under investigation, police said. Meanwhile, local TMC MLA and Power Minister Arup Biswas, who visited the family, said, 'This is what the fear of being thrown out of the country could do to a man. What they (Centre) have started in the name of the SIR shows their anti-people attitude, and the result is in front of you.' Later in the day, the TMC held a press meet, with party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh holding the BJP-led Centre responsible for Saha's death. Ghosh accused the Centre of creating 'an atmosphere of terror' that is causing 'valid Indians' to fear for their lives, especially those who may struggle to produce their parents' documents. Education Minister Bratya Basu also condemned the incident, calling the BJP's 'insulting and harassing' notices to Hindu Bengalis regarding the NRC. 'The way in which the BJP has been sending NRC notices to Hindu Bengalis, is to insult and harass them. Not being able to tolerate this, Dilip Kumar Saha has ended his life. His wife, Aarti has said this. Migrant workers are being called infiltrators. In Pune, a man who fought in the Kargil war was called the same,' Basu said. -with PTI inputs

OPS-Nainar spat continues; TTV bats to bring him back

Chennai: The spat between state BJP president Nainar Nagenthran and former AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam continued on Sunday too, with the two denying each other's claims. While OPS showed messages he had sent to Nainar as proof of reaching out to him, the BJP leader said these were not enough. Even as the two leaders sparred, AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran urged the BJP's national and state leaders to bring OPS back to NDA. The day also saw OPS asking his supporters not to talk about alliances and warned of action if they violated. The fresh exchanges began with Nainar demanding proof for OPS's claim that he had attempted to reach out to the BJP leader seeking an appointment with PM Narendra Modi when he visited Tamil Nadu last month. "OPS did not contact me. In fact, it was I who contacted OPS the day before he met chief minister M K Stalin," Nainar said. Nainar said that though OPS levelled charges against him, he would not do so in return. Within hours, OPS showed reporters at Madurai airport the messages he had sent to Nainar from his mobile. Later in the day, when reporters met Nainar at Odanilai and asked him about the messages, the BJP leader said displaying such messages from his cellphone were not enough as proof of communication. Meanwhile, TTV Dhinakaran said BJP's Delhi leaders as well as those in TN should bring OPS back to the NDA. "OPS was with BJP even before I joined NDA. BJP leaders should take steps to bring him back," he said. He blamed unnamed leaders for forcing OPS's exit from NDA and expressed confidence OPS would not join DMK. Later in the day, OPS issued a statement, warning his supporters and cadres not to talk about alliances. Instead, he said they should campaign about problems faced by people because of DMK govt and hold public rallies to explain how AIADMK is crumbling. In a related development, senior AIADMK leader C Ponnaiyan alleged OPS had long maintained a "secret understanding" with DMK. Delhi Confidential: Happy moment

Representing Varanasi in Lok Sabha since 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set up an office there as a Lok Sabha MP, manned by seven-member staff. In the last over 11 years, the PM has visited this office only once, however, several ministers and other party leaders do visit the place. During the PM's trip to his constituency on Saturday, the PM met the staff on the backside of the dais after his public meeting. The PM spent a very few minutes with the staff and also stood for pictures with them. 'Vo bhi bahut khush the, hum sab bhi bahut khush hain (He was very happy, so were we),' one of the staff said after the meeting. Here & There As several ministries are in the process of moving out of North Block and Nirman Bhawan into the new office buildings built as a part of the Central Vista plan, last week saw officials shuffling from one building to another to attend internal meetings. While the Home ministry has shifted out of North Block completely, the Personnel ministry is in the process of moving to the new Common Central Secretariat. Similarly, the Housing and Urban Affairs ministry is yet to move into the new office block on K G Marg, but the Minister, Manohar Lal, has shifted his office. Sources say the shifting would be completed after the Monsoon Session of Parliament. Till then, some ministries may be operating out of multiple locations. Official Tally Data submitted by the Ministry of External Affairs in Parliament in response to two back-to-back questions from BJP Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu officially declared that PM Modi surpassed eight of his predecessors by getting awards and recognition from 27 nations in the last one decade. According to the MEA, Indian PMs received 14 international awards in almost six decades between 1956 and 2015.
