Illegal construction: Sambhal MP submits map; next hearing on June 12
Samajwadi Party MP from Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal Ziaur Rahman Barq through his counsel has submitted a formal construction map to the Sambhal SDM's court seeking its approval in an ongoing case pertaining to the alleged illegal construction at Barq's residence in Deepa Sarai locality in that district, officials said. Confirming it, Sambhal SDM Vandana Mishra said, 'A map has been submitted for the new construction at the MP's residence. The next hearing is scheduled for June 12 during which further action will be determined.' The map was submitted on Tuesday (June 3). The MP's counsel Mohammad Naeem also expressed willingness to pay the penalty levied for the 'unapproved' construction, they added. Barq has been accused of constructing a house without the approval for a building plan. He has been served several notices by the SDM. The controversy began after Barq undertook fresh construction at his residence without obtaining the necessary permissions. The regulated area office had objected to the construction, declaring it illegal and subsequently issuing a formal notice to the MP on December 11, 2024. The notice said the construction violated the Uttar Pradesh Regulation of Building Operations Act, 1958, as it was carried out without an approved map or official sanction.

Speaking to The Hindu, Pushkar Mishra, Organisational Election In-charge of the party said broader representation of all social segment has been the aim of the ruling party, pushing the West U.P. district as 'critical' for the BJP in all parameters. 'Giving proper representation to all social groups within the organisational and electoral structure is the working ideology of the BJP. In early, 1990s, I suggested the idea to K. N. Govindacharya to give every class and caste of the Indian society due representation. He gave a statement on 'social engineering' which was widely quoted all over, later on during the presidency of Nitin Gadkari Ji, the same blueprint was prepared to give representation to various social segments, which was executed by Shri Amit Shah Ji after 2014. Recently, as organizational in-charge of Sambhal, we gave representation to 12 caste groups as Mandal president out of 18 names declared. In the next few days, the rest two Mandal presidents will be announced. The strength of the BJP lies in its capability of giving representation to each and every section of the society, unlike other parties which are caste or family parties,' said Pushkar Mishra, organizational Election In-charge of BJP Sambhal. Mandal, similar to block is a key unit at the lower level of the BJP structure. Out of the 18 declared presidents, nine are from Other Backward Classes (OBC) category while two hails from the Rajput community, three Brahmins. Among OBCs, one hails from Kushwaha community, two Jat, one from Saini community, three from Yadav community. One Jatav (Scheduled Caste), one Pasi (Scheduled Caste) are also giving responsibility of Mandal (block) president. There is no Muslim in the list. Annual Jeth Mela in Bahraich denied permission over law and order concerns
The Jeth Mela, originally scheduled to take place at Dargah Sharif in Bahraich from May 15 to June 15, was expected to draw around lakhs of pilgrims from India and abroad. According to an official statement, the administration has cited the prevailing atmosphere of protest and public anger following incidents like the Pahalgam attack, Sambhal violence and concerns surrounding the amended Waqf Act as the reason behind its decision. Bahraich (UP), May 3 (PTI) The Bahraich district administration has denied permission for the annual 'Jeth Mela' traditionally held at Syed Salar Masood Ghazi Dargah here. Circle Officer Pahup Kumar Singh said, 'The decision to deny permission for the mela was taken to maintain peace and security, given the current circumstances.' City Magistrate Shalini Prabhakar added that reports were sought from various officials. 'All of them indicated that due to law and order concerns, it was not appropriate to recommend or permit the fair now. The mela manager has been informed of this decision,' said Prabhakar. The mela held in the name of Syed Salar Masood Ghazi has been opposed by Hindu organisations for some time. For several years, these organisations have regarded Maharaja Suheldev as their icon, while viewing his adversary Ghazi as an invader. These organisations refer the fair ground as Surya Kund. During a visit to Bahraich on March 20 this year, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had praised the bravery of Maharaja Suheldev and stated that 'glorifying the invader (Ghazi) means strengthening the foundation of treason. Independent India cannot accept any such traitor.' The Sambhal administration had also recently denied permission for the 'Neja Mela,' which was to be held in the name of Ghazi. On March 23, the fair management committee had abruptly postponed the auction of contracts for the Jeth Mela, raising doubts about the event's occurrence. However, the auction was later completed on March 27, leading to speculation that the fair would proceed. Nevertheless, Hindu organisations continued to demand that the fair be stopped.
