flight crashed soon after take-off in the western Indian state of Gujarat on Thursday (June 12), resulting in multiple fatalities. The aeroplane was bound for London Gatwick airport from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, the largest city of Gujarat. There were 53 British citizens on board the ill-fated flight AI 171, which was carrying a total of 242 passengers and crew members.
Reuters reported rescue workers pulling out a least 30-35 bodies from a building at the crash site.

Videos recorded by eye witnesses and details shared by Air India, the airline operating the flight, reveal the plane crashing into a building near the airport a few minutes after take-off. The crash resulted in an explosion and a massive fireball. A thick black smoke was rising from the crash site.

The updated list confirms that the number of test cities has been expanded to 233, ahead of the entrance test scheduled for August 3, 2025. Candidates will now be required to resubmit their preferred exam cities from June 13, 2025 (3 PM) to June 17, 2025 (11:55 PM) via the official portal. NBEMS has clarified that the city allotment process will operate on a first-come-first-serve basis, depending on candidate priority and availability.

Air India crash: Govt forms high-level committee to formulate SOPs to avert disasters
NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) on Saturday announced the constitution of a high level, multi-disciplinary committee headed by the Union Home Secretary to ensure disasters like the Air India crash on June 12 do not happen in the future. The team will formulate SOPs for preventing such mishaps as well as the manner of handling them in the events of their occurrence. MoCA has given them a three-month deadline to complete the task. The order issued by the Ministry in the wee hours said the Committee will include representatives who are at the rank of Joint Secretary level in the State and Central governments. "The Committee will not be a substitute to other inquiries being conducted by relevant organisations but will focus on formulating SOPs for preventing and handling such occurrences in future," it said. AI 171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick Airport (London) crashed as soon as it took off, killing nearly 260 flyers.
