Neighbours boss confirms if Kylie and Jason will return in second finale

Metro6 hours ago

Jason Herbison, the Executive Producer of Neighbours, has opened up about the show's finale.
In 2022, Channel 5 aired the last ever episode of Neighbours. It featured the return of a whole host of familiar characters including Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue's Scott and Charlene.
Months later, streaming platform Amazon Freevee picked the show up, allowing it to return.
Earlier this year, fans were heartbroken once more as they learnt the soap had been cancelled again.
The final scenes are being filmed in July, with the last episode set to air in December.
Ahead of the farewell, show producer Jason Herbison has opened up about what to expect for the last instalment.
'I've already written it, and I would say that I definitely am not going to try and compete with that finale', he told Back to the Bay, noting the 2022 episode.
'I haven't picked up the phone to Jason [Donovan] and Kylie [Minogue] and Guy [Pierce] again. I've left them alone, but it will be very similar in tone. I think it's a very warm, hopeful tone, but it's also a little bit different. There are things about it that I think might remind people of the previous finale, but it's also very different.' Jason went on to stay that he remains hopeful this isn't the last we've seen of Ramsay Street.

'I think, as has been well documented, the show's not ending because people aren't still enjoying it. We still have an amazing following.
'Unfortunately, the closure of Amazon Freevee did mean the end of the show. But having said that, at the end of this chapter of the show, they were terrific and gave us lots of notice on it as well, which is as much as you can possibly hope for. It wasn't something that took anyone by surprise.

He is reportedly set for a recurring role in the highly anticipated show. The late actor Robert Hardy portrayed Fudge in four Harry Potter films. HBO declined to confirm Bertie's involvement, with a spokesperson saying "such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumour and speculation" as well as "we will only confirm details as we finalise deals". He would join Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout - who have been cast as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The confirmed adult cast includes John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Snape and Nick Frost as Hagrid. Rounding out the announced names are Luke Thallon as Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Filch. Bertie, 47, currently plays the title role in Dalgleish, based on PD James' Adam Dalgleish novels. Set in the 1970s, the premise follows recent widower DCI Dalgleish investigating complex crimes. He is a two-time Olivier Award winner for his performance as Ms Trunchbull in Matilda: The Musical and Rupert Murdoch in Ink, respectively. Following a supporting role in season five, he became a main cast member for the sixth and final season. The casting of the Harry Potter TV show's three young leads was officially announced last month. Showrunner/executive producer Francesca Gardiner and executive producer/director Mark Mylod said: "After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione and Ron. "The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together on-screen." They added: "We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. If you think you might have one, then first look to see if Bloomsbury is listed as the publisher on the title page at the bottom. The copy should be a first edition - which will be noted within the first few pages. The latest date listed in the copyright information must by 1997. It should be credited to "Joanne Rowling" and not "J.K Rowling" and carry a print line that reads " 1 0 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1" on the copyright page. There is a mistake on page 53 where '1 wand' appears twice in the list of school supplies Harry receives from Hogwarts, which was corrected in later print runs. For the other titles in the Harry Potter series, it is only the first hardback editions with the dust jacket that have any collectable value.

Eileen Grimshaw had a special send-off during Friday's episode of the soap, where she was seen leaving for Thailand alongside her son Jason Grimshaw, played by Ryan Thomas. ‌ Simon Gregson's character Steve McDonald, Tony Maudsley's George Shuttleworth, and Eileen's son Todd, played by Gareth Pierce, all said goodbye to the matriarch before drivers from the local taxi firm honked their horns as she was driven off. ‌ In an Instagram post, Cleaver said: "Well... that's a wrap. 25 years of laughs, tears, costumes, chaos - and one unforgettable journey. "I'll miss this character like crazy, but what a ride it's been. Thank you for every moment." Cleaver has played the outspoken and uncomplicated Eileen in the ITV show since 2000. Article continues below Eileen came to Weatherfield to work at the local taxi firm, Streetcars, to provide for her two tearaway teenage children, Jason and Todd. She soon became friends with her boss Steve and came into conflict with Helen Worth's character Gail Rodwell (also known as Gail Platt). Cleaver took part in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2022, where she opened up about reconciling with her birth mother, and was eliminated third. Article continues below She also said her family is "bizarrely interconnected" to other Coronation Street stars, including Worth who is godmother to one of her half-sisters, while her other half-sister's husband, John Bowe, appeared on the cobbles as Duggie Ferguson. In 2024, she released a book A Work In Progress in which she discusses how she feels she is not past her prime. In recent years she has appeared as a panellist on ITV chat show Loose Women.

Coronation Street bosses urged to wake up over bad stories

The programme has been slammed by viewers for its over-reliance on serious crime stories and the under-utilisation of established characters, something that many believe was the reason for its poor showing at the British Soap Awards. Corrie, which first aired all the way back in 1960, was outshone by rival soap operas like EastEnders last week, leading to concern from some ITV viewers. The only title won by Coronation Street at the British Soap Awards last week was claimed by David Neilson (Roy Cropper) for the Outstanding Achievement category. According to the Radio Times, the rest were won by Hollyoaks, Emmerdale and EastEnders. Taking to the Coronation Street Reddit, one fan simply demanded that the showrunners "wake up" and added that it "absolutely deserved to get no awards" last week. They wrote: "The soap awards should be a massive wake-up call. Corrie absolutely deserved to get no awards, sorry to say, not compared to EastEnders. "The show has been a constant crime saga with pointless loopholed stories carried by meaningless characters. I remember corrie in the 2017/18 days when they did Aidan's suicide, Bethany's grooming plot, David's rape. "Going even further back, I remember Kirsty and Tyrone's domestic abuse storyline, which was heavily lauded. Even the racism with Max/Lauren and Alia alongside Geoff's abuse of Yasmin was heartbreaking to see. "Yes, they were miserable and dark stories, but they were relevant stories and had us hooked, and we cared so much about what these characters were going through." They added: "It's ridiculous how established characters are being sidelined for newer ones who haven't even built a rapport with audiences. "Work with some charities and do further research on issue-based stories that can be explored instead of being lazy and recycling constant cheating and crime storylines with the same predictable characters. "I get the newer actors are probs cheaper to use and easier to fit in anywhere to make up a storyline but overusing them creates resentment towards them. "Use them sensibly and start giving the older cast members more meaty storylines." Coronation Street icon of 25 years leaves show tonight after huge decision Fans cry soap is 'robbed' at British Soap Awards as 'chaos' halts start to show Coronation Street legend accidentally reveals Emmerdale crossover spoiler Finishing the complaint, the ITV viewer said: "Listen to your audiences for once, otherwise these pointless stories that always revolve around cheating and crime are further going to decrease your popularity." Other fans of the show agreed with one user writing: "Not going to lie. I do still enjoy Corrie. But there needs to be more 'kitchen sink'/Rovers scenes. The occasional trauma-based storyline better executed. It's like they pick and choose which they want to do well." Another added: "Coronation Street has been the worst I have ever known it in the past 12 months."
