ENG Vs WI: West Indies Fined For Slow Over-Rate In 1st ODI Against England

News184 days ago

West Indies have been penalised for falling an over short against England in the first ODI at Birmingham.
The West Indies have been fined for a slow over-rate during the first one-day international against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Thursday. Shai Hope's team was found to be one over short of the required target.
Match Referee Jeff Crowe of the ICC Elite Panel imposed a fine of five per cent of their match fee on each West Indies player. The ICC stated that Hope's side was one over short after time allowances were taken into consideration.
The sanction is in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences. The ICC statement added that, as per regulations, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their team fails to bowl in the allotted time.
West Indies captain Shai Hope accepted the proposed sanction, so a formal hearing was not required.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Martin Saggers, third umpire Adrian Holdstock, and fourth umpire Graham Lloyd.
England secured a comprehensive 238-run victory, posting 400/8 thanks to half-centuries from Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook, and Jacob Bethell.
The West Indies were subsequently bowled out for 162 as Saqib Mahmood and Jamie Overton claimed three wickets apiece.
England will be without all-rounder Jamie Overton for the remainder of the white-ball series. He has been ruled out due to a broken right little finger. Matthew Potts has been named as his replacement and is poised to make his tenth ODI appearance for England.
The second ODI between the two sides takes place in Cardiff on Sunday. A victory in Cardiff would guarantee a series win for England with one match to spare.

"Not Good Captain, Not Right For IPL Team": Virat Kohli's Critics Shut Down By Rajeev Shukla

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ended 18 years of misery as the Rajat Patidar -led side defeated the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Virat Kohli, the only constant in the franchise over the last 18 years, finally tasted success in the T20 league, while also playing an important role in the team's triumph. With the win, Kohli didn't just extend his legacy in Indian cricket but also sent a message to all those who questioned his leadership, adaptability to the T20 format. Rajeev Shukla, the man touted to become the next Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president, shut down critics in style as Virat finally made the 'Ee sala cup namde' prophecy true. "See, to me, it feels like - amongst those who've played the IPL over the last 18 years - Virat has been the constant. And he tried many times to make Bangalore champions, to make RCB champions, but it never happened. People often criticised him, said things like 'he's not a good captain,' 'he's not right for an IPL team' - this and that," Shukla said in a chat with India Today. Though RCB haven't been as successful as Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in IPL history, the franchise enjoys unmatched fan following. For Shukla, the popularity that the Bengaluru side has is all because of Virat Kohli. "But whatever the case may be, it's because of Virat that RCB has such a big fan base and popularity. People around the world follow this team because of him. No matter where a match is played, if Virat's team is playing, it will be known by his name," Shukla added. Virat was RCB's top-scoring batter this season, finishing the IPL 2025 campaign with 657 runs in 15 matches at an average of 54.75. He struck at a strike rate of 144.71, with his highest score being 73 not out. Listen to the latest songs, only on

England name 14-man squad for first Test vs India, recall surprise pacer with just one cap after 3-year absence

England have announced a 14-member squad for the opening Test of the series against India, which begins June 20 at Headingley. Ben Stokes will lead the side, with Jamie Overton making a return to the Test team after nearly three years. Overton has played only one Test so far, with his sole appearance coming against New Zealand in 2022. Gus Atkinson was unavailable for selection due to a right hamstring injury sustained during the recent Test against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Overton, and Josh Tongue feature in the pace attack, with Shoaib Bashir included as the sole spinning option. Jacob Bethell also returns to the Test team after missing the one-off match against Zimbabwe last month. The 14-member squad included the top-3 of Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Ollie Pope, who smashed brilliant centuries against Zimbabwe. Jamie Smith is expected to keep the wickets, retaining the role he played in the Zimbabwe Test. Ben Stokes (Durham) – Captain, Shoaib Bashir (Somerset), Jacob Bethell (Warwickshire), Harry Brook (Yorkshire), Brydon Carse (Durham), Sam Cook (Essex), Zak Crawley (Kent), Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire), Jamie Overton (Surrey), Ollie Pope (Surrey), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Jamie Smith (Surrey), Josh Tongue (Nottinghamshire), and Chris Woakes (Warwickshire) The BCCI, meanwhile, had earlier announced an 18-member squad for the England Test tour, which featured a new Indian Test captain in Shubman Gill. With both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retiring from the format, the tour will mark the beginning of India's generational transition; this will also be India's first Test series without Ravichandran Ashwin, who had earlier called time on his international career during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Karun Nair made a return to the Indian Test squad after over eight years, and produced a brilliant performance during his outing for India A against England Lions last week. Nair hit a double century in the game, while Abhimanyu Easwaran, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Nitish Kumar Reddy – all part of the squad – smashed half-centuries in the second innings. Gautam Gambhir, the Indian head coach, and Gill will address the media in a pre-departure press conference on Wednesday.

In a heartwarming post-match moment that quickly went viral, Kohli expressed his deep appreciation for Anushka, recognising her as his steadfast support throughout his cricket career. "I've seen it for 18 years, and she's seen it for 11. Suffered the same moments since 2014 and celebrated every close win and the madness of our supporters at the Chinnaswamy. We're both equally relieved, and since she's a Bangalore girl too, this is far more special for her. Together all the way through," Virat shared on his social media handle, dedicating his victory to Anushka's unwavering support. Amid this joyful occasion, the victory celebrations in Bengaluru were marred by a tragic incident. A stampede near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the RCB celebrations led to the loss of 11 lives and left 33 others injured. Both Virat and Anushka shared their grief in the wake of the tragedy. Anushka Sharma, in an emotional Instagram post, shared a statement from RCB, expressing her condolences. "We are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents that have come to light through media reports regarding public gatherings all over Bengaluru in anticipation of the team's arrival this afternoon. The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to us. RCB mourns the tragic loss of lives and extends our heartfelt condolences to the affected families," the statement read. Virat Kohli also expressed his devastation, posting on Instagram, "At a loss for words. Absolutely gutted." Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also addressed the press following the tragic incident. He confirmed that 11 people had died, and 33 others were injured in the stampede.
