You season 5 branded 'rushed and boring' as past characters return for final episodes

Daily Record24-04-2025
The latest instalment of You brings Joe Goldberg's story full circle, with a host of familiar faces returning for the final chapter. Three years on from season four, we find Joe Goldberg (played by Penn Badgley) settled in New York with his wife Kate Lockwood (Charlotte Ritchie) and their son Henry. But peace is short-lived as Joe becomes infatuated with Bronte (Madeline Brewer), an aspiring writer working at Mooney's bookstore , who harbours a troubling past. Bronte's attempts to escape her abusive ex, Clayton (Tom Francis), are thwarted when she disappears, prompting a desperate search by Joe, reports the Mirror . Joe's quest leads him to a beach house where he believes Clayton has taken Bronte, culminating in a passionate reunion between the "star-crossed lovers". However, their moment is shattered when Joe stumbles upon Clayton threatening Bronte downstairs, resulting in a brutal confrontation that ends with Joe delivering a deadly blow to Clayton's head, smashing it against the fireplace. In a stunning twist, Dominique (Natasha Benham) appears, having live-streamed the entire sequence of events on social media, as Bronte stands by, holding a taser. The subsequent episode reveals that Bronte had been catfishing Joe as a means of seeking revenge for her friend Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail) and justice for Dr Nicky (John Stamos), Clayton's father. Episodes six and seven, titled The Dark Face Of Love and #JoeGoldberg, bring back several familiar faces in You season 5, including Guinevere Beck who is central to Bronte's catfishing scheme. She was Bronte's TA during her writing studies when she moved to New York. Nadia (Amy-Leigh Hickman) also returns. Joe had framed Nadia for her boyfriend's murder, resulting in her imprisonment. Fortunately, her story doesn't end there as she looks to bring Joe down. Tati Gabrielle's character Marienne, who became the focus of Joe's obsession in the third season of You while he was still wedded to Love, makes a comeback in season five alongside Nadia and Kate, forming an alliance to avenge Joe's actions. In other developments, Dottie Quinn (played by Saffron Burrows), the mother of Love and Forty from prior seasons, reappears in episode seven to besmirch Joe's character publicly. The storyline also revisits husband-and-wife influencers Sherry (Shalita Grant) and Cary (Travis Van Winkle), from season three, who have ended up behind bars. We also revisit Paco, played by Luca Padovan, who looked up to Joe in his attempts to escape the abusive relationship between his mother and her violent partner, Ron Baker. Critics were quick to blast the latest and final season of the Netflix show. Ed Power from the Daily Telegraph commented: "The bodies continue to pile up as he goes along. "But for many viewers, the first thing to croak it will be their attention span as an already silly series commits the unforgivable sin of becoming indulgent and, finally, straight-up stultifying." Kayleigh Donaldson from The Wrap gave her view: "What is 'You' without danger? "It's just kind of daft, but not with any thrills or guilty pleasure". Over at the London Evening Standard, Maddy Mussen concluded: "Penn Badgley remains a strong and steadfast performer to the bitter end. But by god did this series need a mercy killing already. "I'm just glad it's been put of its misery." You Season 5 also debuted with the lowest score from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes, only 71 per cent. One user commented: "Not that good, felt rushed and it's so boring," while another chimed in: "You could enjoy it until the first seven episodes, but after that it's complete chaos and illogicality."

Channel 5 was advised 'not to run' royal series despite high ratings

EXCLUSIVE: Channel 5 has produced several shows around the Royal Family over the years, but there was one that could have nearly not aired Channel 5 was told to steer clear of broadcasting a television programme about the Royal Family, it has emerged. ‌ The broadcaster has screened numerous detailed programmes about the Royals through the years, ranging from documentaries examining Royal residences to shows exploring Zara and Mike Tindall, alongside Prince Edward. ‌ Programmes including Secrets of the Royals and Lip-Reading the Royals: The Secret Conversations have offered viewers an insider's glimpse into behind-the-scenes activities, yet there was one television programme that nearly didn't make it to air. ‌ Ben Frow, Channel 5's Director of Programming, disclosed that he approached the King and Queen 's communications officer to discuss whether he could provide information for a TV show During a question and answer segment at the Edinburgh TV festival, Ben explained that he had been transparent about the "fantastic numbers" that certain controversial Royals, such as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, achieve for Channel 5. "I fessed up and I said, 'Look, Andrew, Harry, and Meghan still deliver fantastic numbers for us'," Ben informed the Mirror and other media outlets. "I made my position clear [about Harry and Meghan] and they didn't say don't do anything, but in an email a couple of weeks later, he said, 'I'd rather you didn't'." He went on to reveal that the communications officer shot down his request for inside information, reports Gloucestershire Live. ‌ Ben continued: "It was about Royal Service, and we asked him if he could help us get something on the Royal Family, and he said, 'It's not in my job description'." Harry and Meghan have long been a topic of debate among the public, particularly since their decision to step down as senior royals in 2020 and move to the US. The duo have ventured into reality TV with their Netflix series Harry and Meghan, but they've also been the subject of numerous documentaries, including Channel 5's Harry and Meghan: What Next? and Meghan and Harry: The Rise and Fall. However, they're not the only contentious figures in the Royal Family. Harry's uncle, Prince Andrew, the younger brother of King Charles III, has also proven to be divisive over recent years This has led to him being the centre of attention in TV shows as well, such as Channel 5's Prince Andrew: Where Did All The Money Go? and Andrew & Fergie's: Unconventional Relationship.

Love Is Blind UK fans in tears over Scottish star's treatment: 'Just so sad to see'

Love Is Blind UK fans were left heartbroken for one Scottish star in the latest instalment of the Netflix dating show. *Warning - This article contains spoilers for Love Is Blind UK season 2 episode 7.* ‌ Love Is Blind UK has made its comeback with another four episodes today, and viewers are already slamming one participant for his dubious conduct after his fiancee broke down in tears. ‌ Episode 7 of the Netflix series delivered plenty of explosive moments as the Love Is Blind couples came face-to-face with former romantic interests from the pods during a reunion gathering. ‌ Whilst some participants maintained their composure, others displayed behaviour that fellow Love Is Blind cast members branded as 'disrespectful'. Health coach Javen, aged 28, was especially brazen, blatantly chatting up rejected participants Sophie and Aanu whilst his fiancée Katisha tried to maintain her composure. The episode, fittingly named 'You're going to get me in trouble' - referencing Javen's remark to Aanu at the gathering - captured him saying to Sophie: "I'd be lying if I sat here and said, '100%.'" He also enquired whether she "lived far from here" and declared: "You're naughty." But tensions escalated an hour afterwards when they arrived home, with Katisha appearing clearly distressed as Javen declared he was heading back out to socialise with some of the cast, reports the Mirror. ‌ The situation quickly became emotional and Javen departed the house without Katisha for his evening out, leaving the nanny and makeup artist from Dumfries, Scotland in floods of tears. During the scene at their apartment, Katisha remained silent as they shared dinner, with Javen observing: "It was good to see everyone." "How was your chat with Sophie?" she enquired, sounding downcast, as Javen responded cheerfully: "It was interesting. She's funny and she has good banter." ‌ "I see," Katisha retorted as Javen also described his conversation with Demola, Katisha's other love interest from the pods, as "interesting". "Interesting in what way?" Katisha fired back, to which Javen vaguely replied: "In the way that I was intrigued to know." "Ok, I'm going to bed; I'm very tired. Goodnight," Katisha declared dejectedly, planting a kiss on Javen's cheek. ‌ Javen was then seen texting someone on his phone before declaring: "I'm going out." The camera then switched to Katisha lying down, looking distressed as her fiance made plans for his night out over the phone. "You staying in?" he queried, to which Katisha confirmed once more: "Yeah." ‌ "I'll see you later," Javen said nonchalantly, donning his jacket as he left. Katisha immediately burst into tears and covered her face with her hand as the episode faded to black. ‌ Watch Love is Blind UK on Netflix for free with Sky from £15 Sky Get the deal here Product Description The episode elicited a heart-wrenching response from viewers, with fans flocking to X to voice their opinions. One viewer commented: "In as much as I wanna be like, yooo Katisha, you knew that kinda guy you were picking, I can't help but feel sorry for her. It's just so sad to see." ‌ They also noted: "As men are we just oblivious to how our partner is feeling? ? When Javen came back from the mixer could he not see that Katisha was not okay? "With my girl I instantly know when she's not okay. And in that moment my mind goes into overdrive thinking about..." Another viewer posted: "Did I watch this right? Did Javen go cheat nonchalantly in front of Katisha? That's literally next level losery. If that wasn't editing (even so, he left while she was distraught after his behaviour), then again, what a loser." ‌ A third wrote: "Katisha is better than me, l would not even kiss you goodnight especially after disrespecting me like that." One more raged: "WHY THE HELL IS JAVEN PULLING SOPHIE FOR A CHAT? ? IN FRONT OF KATISHA? IN FRONT OF EVERYBODY? !'Are you dating anybody?' 'you don't live far from here right?' Then he leaves her at home to cry alone?" However, some fans didn't have much sympathy for Katisha due to the choice she made in the pods, with one remarking: "Seeing Katisha cry over this loser, I can't even feel sorry for her cause she had a guy who made it clear he wanted to love her right but she said nahhh." ‌ Another concurred: "Katisha ruined her own experience. Even if she didn't pick Demola, she knew she never got that reassurance from Javen and still picked him." Meanwhile, another fan urged Katisha to leave the relationship, writing with crying emojis: "Katisha, please RUN there's still time." Is it the end of the road for Katisha and Javen? Stay tuned to find out.

'Horrifying' epic on Netflix that 'gets better every time' will be removed soon

'Horrifying' epic on Netflix that 'gets better with every rewatch' will be removed in a few days A horror mastermind's divisive thriller is currently available to stream on Netflix, but it's set to be removed from the platform in just a few days Netflix is presently hosting a disturbing epic from celebrated filmmaker Ari Aster - though time is running out to watch it. ‌ The mastermind behind contemporary horror gems Hereditary and Midsommar unveiled his newest thriller Eddington in American cinemas last month, with its UK debut scheduled for later this week. ‌ The film has already generated heated debate among critics and audiences due to its unconventional approach, early pandemic backdrop and bold political statements. ‌ However, another of his polarising works remains accessible on Netflix for merely a handful more days. We're naturally referring to his 2023 anxiety-fuelled horror-comedy, Beau Is Afraid, anchored by Joaquin Phoenix's exceptional portrayal of a man pushed towards madness by a looming visit to his mother and unforeseen catastrophe, reports the Mirror. Nevertheless, a devoted fanbase has persistently championed the film, arguing it merits viewing before departing Netflix on Saturday, 23rd August. One five-star Google review enthused: "This film takes you through the nightmarish journey into all the different traumas that quite literally stay with the child for the rest of their life. ‌ "Stunning. I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea but for those that feel it, versus just seeing it, I know will masterpiece by Ari Aster." Another hailed it as "absolutely wonderful" and a "cult classic in the making". "This maybe the single best movie I have ever seen," they declared. ‌ "I mean that sincerely. I say this because to even think of a movie like this is already a wild accomplishment, but to execute it this flawlessly and make 3 hours interesting to the extent that my mind never wandered off even once, is something rarely accomplished by film. "I was glued to my TV wanting to see what creation was coming at me next." Every twenty minutes I had to check in with myself to be like 'How did we get to this point' because it's non-stop psychotic thing after psychotic thing. "This movie is balls-to-the-walls (literally at times!) Ari Aster insanity. Disgusting, hilarious, heartfelt, traumatic and most importantly: unique. No wonder it took him ten years to make this." ‌ Meanwhile, a final five-star critique stated: "Each rewatch just further cements this as one of the best things I've ever seen. "One of the most intelligent psychologically ambitious and sophisticated horrors ever. In ten years when everyone is calling this a masterpiece just remember who was here first, trapped in this nightmare. Ari Aster's Best to date."
