South Africa triumphed over West Indies in a thrilling World Championship of Legends game, decided by a bowl-out after rain disrupted the match.
In what was a throwback to the times when T20s were still in their nascent stage, a bowl-out was staged in the World Championship of Legends match between South Africa and the West Indies to determine the winner of the game. The Proteas eventually took the accolades.
In a rain-marred game where each side played just 11 overs, South Africa had to chase down 81, but they could manage 80, which led to a bowl-out.
The drama of the thriller made it a day to remember for the fans, especially with so many retired players taking the field again. Watch the video here:

After the match was reduced to 11 overs, Windies could post 79/5, with Lendl Simmons the highest scorer with 28. Aaron Phangiso picked up two wickets.
In the chase, South Africa were reduced to 8/2 in the third over before Hashim Amla and Sarel Erwee added 42 runs for the third wicket.
According to bowl-out rules, which are very similar to the penalty shootout in football, the team which hits the stumps the most is declared the winner.
South Africa went first, but Phangiso, Chris Morris, and Hardus Viljoen all missed the stumps before JJ Smuts and Wayne Parnell hit right on the target and handed the Windies a target of three to win.
For the islanders, Fidel Edwards, Cottrell, Ashley Nurse and Dwayne Bravo all missed the target as South Africa managed a thrilling win. The Proteas will next face India in a classic clash on July 22 in Northampton, while the Windies will take on England on the same day at the same venue.

McLaren's Rise Faster Than Ferrari's Schumacher Era: Andrea Stella's Bold Claim

Last Updated: McLaren leads the constructors' championship by 268 points, while both their drivers, Piastri and Norris, are vying for the drivers' title. McLaren's recent transformation has been so rapid and effective that its current trajectory may even outpace the legendary Ferrari era under Michael Schumacher, according to team principal Andrea Stella. Speaking on Friday ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Stella reflected on his past with Ferrari and expressed astonishment at the scale and speed of McLaren's resurgence. The Italian, who served as an engineer at Ferrari during Schumacher's dominance in the early 2000s, now leads a McLaren team that is dominating both the drivers' and constructors' championships in 2025. Stella, who joined McLaren in 2015 after more than a decade at Ferrari, emphasized that drawing direct comparisons between eras and teams can be tricky, particularly given his different roles in each organization. However, he admitted that McLaren's current rate of development stands out. 'It's always difficult to compare across seasons," Stella said. 'In this case, we are comparing across teams, and even myself, I was in a very different role, so my field of view, my perspective was very different." During Schumacher's golden run from 2000 to 2004, Ferrari secured five consecutive drivers' titles and six consecutive constructors' championships, with the 2004 season being especially dominant—15 wins from 18 races. McLaren's Dominance in 2025 In stark contrast to their recent struggles, McLaren has surged to the front of the grid in 2025. After finishing fifth in 2022 and fourth in 2023, the team has won 10 of the first 13 races this season and holds a commanding 268-point lead over second-placed Ferrari in the constructors' standings. Their driver duo—Oscar Piastri of Australia and Britain's Lando Norris—are currently locked in a close fight for the drivers' title. Piastri leads Norris by 16 points, while Max Verstappen, the reigning champion and Red Bull ace, trails by a distant 81 points in third place. Despite the commanding lead and consistent performance from his drivers, Stella is unwilling to label the championship battle as a closed contest. 'Definitely not," Stella said when asked about whether Verstappen was out of the Championship race. 'I only agree with mathematics. So once mathematics tells us that's the case, then I'll change my answer." First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Maharaja T20 Looking For Match Venues As Chinnaswamy Yet To Receive Clearance: Report

Last Updated: M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru hasn't cleared for Maharaja T20 because of an investigation. The M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru hasn't received clearance to host the Maharaja T20 tournament, with the Karnataka State Cricket Association now searching for venues to play the tournament at, as Chinnaswamy has been mired in controversy for almost two months now, according to a report in ESPNCricinfo. The Maharaja T20 is all set to take place from August 11 to 27 and the KSCA needs to find venues with 10 days in hand. The police have withheld clearance because of the ongoing investigation into the June 4 stampede that occurred near the stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL winning celebrations. An independent CID investigation into the incident, which left 11 dead and over 50 injured, is still underway. The KSCA is now exploring alternative venues, including its facility in Alur on the outskirts of Bengaluru, as well as the Wadeyar Ground in Mysuru. Although Alur boasts excellent drainage and infrastructure, the lack of floodlights poses a significant challenge for broadcasters. According to the report, Alur is all set to host the group games of the six-day women's T20 competition, the Maharani T20, from August 4. The Karnataka State Cricket Association had been considering hosting the women's final at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, but that now appears uncertain as police approval is still pending. As the Karnataka State Cricket Association contends with the prospect of a last-minute venue change, teams have expressed frustration over the financial losses they now stand to incur. Teams had already booked hotels for players and staff based on the assumption that the entire Maharaja T20 would take place in central Bengaluru. Bengaluru is all set to host the opening game of the Women's ODI World Cup, along with one semifinal and the final which has put the state association in massive thought over the pending police case. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Markram Picks 2 SA Youngsters As 'Proper X-Factor' Ahead Of AUS, ENG Tours

Last Updated: Aiden Markram urges young batsmen Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Dewald Brevis to seize opportunities in tours to Australia and England, prepping for the 2026 T20 World Cup. South Africa's T20 captain, Aiden Markram, is keen for the team's young batsmen to seize the opportunity during upcoming limited-overs tours to Australia and England over the next eight weeks. This is a chance for them to further their careers and showcase their international potential. South Africa has high expectations for Lhuan-dre Pretorius, a powerful teenage hitter, and Dewald Brevis, a prolific 22-year-old run-scorer who first appeared in the Indian Premier League three years ago. These tours are part of their preparation for next year's T20 World Cup. 'The last thing you want to do is to clip their wings. You sort of want to let them fly and let them do their thing," Markram said in a virtual press conference on Friday as South Africa prepared to leave for Australia. The team will play three T20 internationals in Darwin and Cairns later this month. 'I think we've seen on various stages around the world now that they are proper X-factor players and that they have taken to international cricket quite easily," he continued. 'So, I don't know if I have too much advice for them, besides the fact that they must keep taking the game on and not be scared of disappointments or failures. 'It's been great to see their progress. They're going to play a massive role moving forward in cricket in South Africa and that's the thing that we're quite excited about," Markram added. Both players are included in the squad for three One Day Internationals against Australia following the T20 series. South Africa will then head to England early next month for three ODIs and three T20s. 'For us as a team it'll be about fine tuning a lot of things and preparing for that T20 World Cup, so a great opportunity in Australia and then followed by England and if we can get closer towards another trophy, that'll be good," Markram told reporters. South Africa finished as runners-up in the last T20 World Cup in the West Indies a year ago, and Markram was the hero of their World Test Championship win over Australia in June. The next T20 World Cup will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka in early 2026. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
