Standard Motor Products Continues to Expand Oil Filter Housing Program

Yahoo06-02-2025
NEW YORK, Feb. 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Standard Motor Products, Inc. (SMP) is pleased to announce the continued expansion of its line of Oil Filter Housing Kits and Assemblies. Standard® Oil Filter Housing Kits feature design improvements over the OE units, are application-specific, not universal, and are assembled from the factory with the sensors and oil filter already installed, and include new hardware and manifold gaskets.
Original equipment oil filter housings, like those on Pentastar V6 engines, are prone to failing and leaking oil from several problem areas. Standard® engineers meticulously study the OE units and design improvements to address the weak points in the OE housings. For example, the core plugs on the front of the OE housing are installed without any seals or O-rings which can lead to oil leaks. Standard® installs an O-ring on each core plug before ultrasonically welding them into the housing, creating a positive, long-lasting seal. Additionally, these housings are constructed using Zytel®, a high-strength, heat-resistant synthetic material.
Pentastar oil filter housings may look similar, but there are distinct differences between model years, such as oil filter flow rates and temperature and pressure sensor changes. Standard® takes these differences into account and has introduced six part numbers for Pentastar applications, ensuring a vehicle-specific, not universal, fit and performance. Most recently, Standard® introduced the OFH136, a versatile product that fits 2018-16 Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles like the 2018-17 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2018-16 Dodge Durango.
In addition to its full coverage for Pentastar applications, Standard® offers Oil Filter Housing Kits and Assemblies for many other vehicles. New coverage has recently been released for the 2023-16 Toyota Tacoma, 2019-17 Infiniti QX30, 2019-15 Ford Transit and more.
Inside the Standard® box is an Oil Filter Housing Kit that is factory assembled and includes everything needed for a complete, correct installation. The oil filter, cap and sensors are already installed and torqued to the manufacturer's specifications. All Standard® Oil Filter Housing Kits include the required gaskets, seals, and hardware, and match the thermal characteristics of the original design for correct oil cooling.
John Herc, Vice President Vehicle Control Marketing, SMP, stated, "Our Oil Filter Housing program is constantly growing to meet demands of professional technicians. We remain committed to offering a line of Oil Filter Housing Kits that deliver design improvements, arrive completely assembled and are engineered and cataloged for vehicle-specific fit and performance.
All Standard® Oil Filter Housing Kits and related components are listed in the catalog found at StandardBrand.com and in electronic catalog providers.

GE Appliances Announces Historic $3 Billion Investment

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GE Appliances, a Haier company, today announced a bold plan to invest more than $3 billion over the next five years in its U.S. operations, workforce and communities. This investment deepens GE Appliances' commitment to technology development, product innovation and advanced manufacturing. The company will expand its air conditioning and water heating portfolio, increase production output across all product lines, and further modernize its 11 U.S. manufacturing plants with new automation and capital equipment. The first phase of investments will begin at GE Appliances plants in Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Upon completion of this plan, GE Appliances will have invested $6.5 billion across its U.S. manufacturing plants and nationwide distribution network since 2016. This $3 billion announcement marks the second-largest investment in GE Appliances' history and that of the U.S. appliance industry – surpassed only by the creation of Appliance Park in the 1950s, the company's global headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky. 'We are defining the future of manufacturing at GE Appliances by investing in our plants, people, and communities,' said Kevin Nolan, President and CEO of GE Appliances. 'No other appliance company over the last decade has invested more in U.S. manufacturing than we have, and our $3 billion, five-year plan shows that our commitment to U.S. manufacturing will continue into the future.' Five-year plan kicks off with first phase of plant expansions and new products: Camden, South Carolina: Today, the GE Appliances Camden plant produces gas water heaters. With this new investment, demand-response electric water heater and GeoSpring™ hybrid heat pump water heater manufacturing will be added, doubling the plant's output and employment once the project is complete. The first phase will be implemented by early 2026. Selmer, Tennessee (Monogram Refrigeration LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of GE Appliances): In December 2025, GE Appliances will add two new models of 2-ton Vertical Zoneline® Air Conditioners to its growing air and water product portfolio at its Selmer, Tennesse plant. LaFayette, Georgia (Roper Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of GE Appliances): Over the past two years, GE Appliances has made significant capital investments to transform its LaFayette, Georgia plant's capabilities to produce gas, electric and new induction ranges along with wall ovens and cooktops. Once focused solely on electric products, over the next several years the plant is ramping up production of gas ranges previously made in Mexico. Decatur, Alabama: GE Appliances' top-freezer refrigerator plant in Decatur will insource six 22 cu. ft. models to better support customer demand. Production will ramp up quickly by the end of August 2025. Louisville, Kentucky: GE Appliances recently announced a $490 million investment to start production of combo washer/dryers and front-load washers in Louisville, creating 800 new jobs at its largest U.S. manufacturing site and global headquarters. The investment will further strengthen the company's laundry manufacturing leadership and meet growing consumer demand with enhanced product variety and speed to market. Investing in people to power growth With more than 4,000 new U.S. jobs added since 2016, and more than 1,000 new jobs anticipated from the five-year plan announced today, GE Appliances continues to place employees at the center of its growth strategy. 'Infrastructure and tools matter, but they are not enough,' said Bill Good, vice president of supply chain for GE Appliances. 'America's manufacturing renaissance will be built by people. That's why we're partnering with universities, technical schools and high schools to develop the next generation of manufacturing leaders. We're not just bringing jobs back — we're bringing purpose, pride, and possibility back to American industry.' GE Appliances' people-first approach is a model for the manufacturing sector, especially as labor shortages persist nationwide. In today's competitive labor market, the company offers flexible work schedules, upskilling to prepare people for higher-level work, and unique employee programs that break down barriers and create opportunities to pursue successful careers in manufacturing. Programs and benefits include: Industry-leading apprenticeship programs and partnerships, including involvement in two Manufacturing Institute FAME chapters, that have brought more people into skilled maintenance roles; Flexible work arrangements, including four-day work weeks and part-time shifts; Transportation assistance; and Free, on-site primary care clinics for employees and their families. GE Appliances' $30 billion annual economic impact As shared in the company's 2024 Economic Impact Report, GE Appliances contributes more than $30 billion annually to the U.S. Gross Domestic Product and supports more than 113,000 jobs – both directly and indirectly – through its operations, suppliers, and distribution network. The new, $3 billion, five-year investment is expected to amplify existing impact by adding jobs, increasing employee skills, driving capacity for innovation, strengthening regional economies, and expanding the company's domestic supplier base. Investing in partnerships to benefit communities across the U.S. GE Appliances is leveraging its engineering innovation, product design, and nationwide distribution network to deliver practical, life-enhancing solutions for disaster response. By combining technical expertise with strategic partnerships, GE Appliances is focused on meeting urgent needs for clean water and laundry services. This commitment comes to life through initiatives like the Disaster Response Command Trailer—developed in partnership with WaterStep to provide clean water and sanitation in Kentucky —and the Mobile Laundry Unit, created with the American Red Cross to deliver fresh laundry services using GE Profile™ Ultrafast Combo Washer/Dryers starting in the Southeast. Both units are built for rapid deployment and designed to restore dignity and comfort to communities recovering from emergencies. The new trailers will debut at an onsite event today at Appliance Park. For additional photo and video assets, please see here. U.S. stocks rally to records on hopes for cuts to interest rates

NEW YORK — The U.S. stock market rallied to records on Tuesday after data suggested inflation across the country was a touch better last month than economists expected. The Standard & Poor's 500 rose 1.1% to top its all-time high set two weeks ago. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 483 points, or 1.1%, and the Nasdaq composite jumped 1.4% to set its own record. Stocks got a lift from hopes that the better-than-expected inflation report will give the Federal Reserve leeway to cut interest rates at its next meeting in September. Lower rates would give a boost to investment prices and to the economy by making it cheaper for U.S. households and businesses to borrow to buy houses, cars or equipment. President Donald Trump has angrily been calling for cuts to help the economy, often insulting the Fed's chair personally while doing so. But the Fed has been hesitant because of the possibility that Trump's tariffs could make inflation much worse. Lowering rates would give inflation more fuel, potentially adding oxygen to a growing fire. That's why Fed officials have said they wanted to see more data come in about inflation before moving. Tuesday's report said U.S. consumers paid prices for groceries, gasoline and other costs of living that were overall 2.7% higher in July than a year earlier. That's the same inflation rate as June's, and it was below the 2.8% that economists expected. The report pushed traders on Wall Street to increase bets that the Fed will cut interest rates for the first time this year in September. They're betting on a 94% chance of that, up from nearly 86% a day earlier, according to data from CME Group. The Fed will receive one more report on inflation, as well as one more on the U.S. job market, before its next meeting, which ends Sept. 17. The most recent jobs report was a stunner, coming in much weaker than economists expected. Some economists warn that more twists and turns in upcoming data could make the Fed's upcoming decisions not so easy. Its twin goals are to get inflation to 2% while keeping the job market healthy. Helping one with interest rates, though, often means hurting the other. Even Tuesday's better-than-expected inflation report had some discouraging undertones. An underlying measure of inflation, which economists say does a better job of predicting where inflation may be heading, hit its highest point since early this year, noted Gary Schlossberg, market strategist at Wells Fargo Investment Institute. That helped cause some up-and-down swings for Treasury yields in the bond market. 'Eventually, tariffs can show up in varying degrees in consumer prices, but these one-off price increases don't happen all at once,' said Brian Jacobsen, chief economist at Annex Wealth Management. 'That will confound the Fed and economic commentators for months to come.' Other central banks around the world have been lowering interest rates, and Australia's on Tuesday cut for the third time this year. On Wall Street, Intel's stock rose 5.6% after Trump said its CEO has an 'amazing story,' less than a week after he had demanded Lip-Bu Tan's resignation. Circle Internet Group, the company behind the popular USDC cryptocurrency that tracks the U.S. dollar, climbed 1.3% despite reporting a larger loss for the latest quarter than analysts expected. It said its total revenue and reserve income grew 53% in its first quarter as a publicly traded company, which topped forecasts. On the losing side of Wall Street was Celanese, which sank 13.1% even though the chemical company delivered a better profit than expected. It said that customers in most of its markets continue to be challenged, and CEO Scott Richardson said that 'the demand environment does not seem to be improving.' Cardinal Health dropped 7.2% despite likewise reporting a stronger profit for the latest quarter than analysts expected. Its revenue fell short of forecasts, and analysts said the market's expectations were particularly high for the company after its stock had already soared 33.3% for the year coming into the day. Critics say the broad U.S. stock market is looking expensive after its surge from a bottom in April. That's putting pressure on companies to deliver continued growth in profit. All told, the S&P 500 rose 72.31 points to 6,445.76. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 483.52 to 44,458.61, and the Nasdaq composite jumped 296.50 to 21,681.90. In stock markets abroad, indexes edged up in China after Trump signed an executive order late Monday that delayed hefty tariffs on the world's second-largest economy by 90 days. The move was widely expected, and the hope is that it will clear the way for a possible deal to avert a dangerous trade war between the United States and China. Japan's Nikkei 225 jumped 2.1%, and South Korea's Kospi fell 0.5% for two of the world's bigger moves. In the bond market, the yield on the 10-year Treasury rose to 4.28% from 4.27% late Monday. The yield on the two-year Treasury, which more closely tracks expectations for the Fed, fell to 3.73% from 3.76%. Choe writes for the Associated Press.
