Daily Record18 hours ago
The next epic instalment in the Outlander franchise is just around the corner - but when will you be able to tune in?
Outlander: Blood of My Blood is one of the most highly-anticipated new releases for TV drama fans this year.

A spin-off from the beloved original series inspired by Diana Gabaldon's novels, this prequel follows the parents of time-traveller Claire (played by Caitriona Balfe) and her Highlander husband Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).

Set across two timelines, Claire's parents Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) find each other during the turmoil of the First World War.

Meanwhile, sparks fly between Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) in 18th Century Scotland, while trailers suggest the two love stories could intersect.
With the premiere just around the corner, let's take a look at how fans will be able to tune into this jaw-dropping new Starz drama.

What time does Outlander: Blood of My Blood start?
The first two episodes of Blood of My Blood will premiere this Friday, 8th August on the Starz network.
The premiere will start at 8pm Eastern Time, or 5pm Pacific Time, and 9pm in Canada, with the first episode, entitled Providence.
This will be immediately followed by episode two, S.W.A.K. (Sealed with a Kiss).

However, only fans in the USA will be able to watch this way as Starz sadly isn't available in other territories.
Viewers in the UK will need to sign up to MGM+, where the episodes will air in the early hours of Saturday morning (10th August). You can subscribe to the service as an add-on to Prime Video.

In the UK, the first episode will air at 2am on Saturday morning, followed by episode two at 3:20am.
Timings for the third episode onwards have yet to be confirmed, though are expected to drop at the same time.
When will the rest of Outlander: Blood of My Blood air?
Blood of My Blood's two-part premiere will be followed by eight more episodes in the season.

The drama will then continue episodically every Friday, with episode two leading into the third episode, School of the Moon, on Friday, 15th August.
Unfortunately, fans will have to exercise patience one more time as there is a confirmed break between episodes nine and 10. No episode will air on Friday, 3rd October meaning the finale will drop on Friday, 10th October and Saturday 11th for UK fans.

When will season 2 be released?
Fans already have reason to celebrate as Outlander: Blood of My Blood was confirmed to return for a second season in June ahead of the premiere.
However, a release date has yet to be confirmed, so fans could be waiting for some time before the drama continues.
Thankfully, production is reportedly already underway in Scotland for the follow-up, meaning new episodes could be released as early as late 2026.

'Outlander' prequel series 'Blood of My Blood' goes back in time again — to meet the parents

In Starz 's ' Outlander,' Caitriona Balfe's Claire Fraser is bold and brave. She can also think on her feet in high-pressure moments. Her husband Jamie Fraser, played by Sam Heughan, is protective and empathetic. In a new prequel series out Friday, called 'Outlander: Blood of My Blood,' we see how they each got that way. 'Blood of My Blood' tells the love story of Jamie's parents, Ellen and Brian, and Claire's parents, Julia and Henry. The characters are inspired by the stories of Diana Gabaldon but there are no novels for showrunner Matthew B. Roberts to follow. He also is the showrunner of the original series, which debuts its final season early next year. With no source material 'there's a lot more room to play in," explained Roberts. In 'Outlander,' "there are all these tentpole moments that we have to write to because that's what our audience wants from the books.' The Frasers In the books, Gabaldon mentions Jamie's parents in 'breadcrumbs' said Roberts. 'We stick to those, but the freedom is what can we do after that to get to essentially where 'Outlander' begins.' The big obstacle facing Jamie's parents, Ellen and Brian, who meet in 18th century Scotland — is that they come from families that 'don't get on,' said Harriet Slater, who plays Ellen. 'They don't mix. It's completely forbidden. My father's worst enemy was Brian's father so I'm sure he'd have had some strong words to say about the whole thing.' Jamie Roy, who plays Brian, enjoys the duality of his character. There's the 'tough, stoic, Highland warrior' who he says 'rides around on horses and swings swords and stuff.' Then there's this 'lovely, gentle, poetic, romantic guy who wants nothing more than to take care of other people.' A few months ago Roy went back and rewatched episodes from season one of 'Outlander,' because he wanted to watch Heughan as his TV son. 'There's so many people who had said there was resemblances about our performances and such. I was like, 'Well, let me see what Sam's journey was like right at the start. And I kind of see what they mean.' The Beauchamps Claire's parents Julia and Henry are mentioned even less in the books. They died in a car accident when Claire was young. We see them meet in 'Blood of My Blood' during World War I. Henry was a soldier and Julia worked in postal censorship. 'When we meet him, he's pretty much given up," said Jeremy Irvine, who plays Henry. 'I think he's accepted death really and doesn't have anything to live for and sends this one last lifeline out in the form of an open letter back to England.' Julia finds his letter at work and feels compelled to respond. The two end up falling in love while writing back-and-forth. A series of events send Julia and Henry, like their daughter, back in time. They end up in the 1700s where Irvine explains they are 'trying to live second by second.' "The time they've gone back to is not a friendly time to be an outsider at all. Being an outsider would likely mean death. Henry and Julia, as is Claire, are very quick-witted, fast-thinking, intelligent people. They survive by the skin of their teeth.' Season 2 of 'Blood of My Blood' is coming too The cast is already in production on season two of 'Blood of My Blood.' Hermoine Corfield, who plays Julia, says it's been nice filming 'in our own little secret bubble.' Promoting the series has been tricky because they have to remember what happened in season one versus season two. 'You almost forget what you did in season one because you're already onto that next journey and storyline,' said Corfield.

Julie Fowlis' Outlander: Blood of my Blood theme song hits screens

Folk star Fowlis gained worldwide recognition as the singing voice for Merida in the Pixar animated film Brave in 2012. Now she is set to gain new fame with the stirring anthem to the show, which contains both English verses and lines in her native Gaelic. The original theme to Outlander, a reworking of the Skye Boat Song by composer Bear McCreary sung by Raya Yarbourgh, became a hit with the show's fans and was later re-recorded by the late Sinead O'Conner. Julie Fowlis (Image: NQ) Blood of My Blood's showrunner Matthew B. Roberts said that they wanted to go down a different route, and create a new song which had more 'energy'. He told the US media: "The Skye Boat song is very romantic from start to finish. But this time we wanted something that had some energy to it, with the drums and everything, going back to Clanadonia, which is this street band in Glasgow that we've always loved." Fowlis said that it had been a 'pleasure' to work on the song, which has been released today on the official soundtrack album. She said: 'It's been a pleasure to work on this new Outlander series Blood of my Blood with acclaimed composer Bear McCreary. 'The Outlander story continues to draw attention to Scottish history, storytelling and our beautiful landscapes and the series brings all this, and much more, to audiences worldwide. Claire's parents in World War I are played by Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine . The first season of the series is set to run for ten episodes, and premieres tonight on Starz. In June 2025, the series was renewed for a second season ahead of the series premiere. Outlander author Diana Gabaldon, who is a consulting producer, will explore the couple's origins through their parents' perspectives – and with the series' trademark time-travel twist. The show's title is a nod to Jamie Fraser's marriage vow to Claire and there will be "several names and faces" Outlander fans will know and recognise.
