Daily Record2 days ago
The highly anticipated new Outlander prequel is almost upon us, so let's take a closer look at the main cast and where you might have seen them before
Outlander fans have all agreed one thing about the upcoming prequel series, Blood of My Blood - the casting has been impeccable.

Turning the clocks back even further, the period drama is set across two timelines to explore the love stories of the parents of Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe).

Set in both early 18th Century Scotland and against the backdrop of the First World War, the time-travelling franchise's first spin-off will introduce fans to two new epic love stories.

It's set to expand Diana Gabaldon's original historical-fantasy saga like never before and is poised to become a major hit for the Starz network in the US.
The series has even received an early renewal for a second season well ahead of the first episode. With all that in mind, who is bringing these soon to be beloved characters to life?

Ellen MacKenzie - Harriet Slater
The mother of Jamie Fraser, Ellen MacKenzie, will be played by English actress Harriet Slater.
Slater has previously starred in the Batman prequel Pennyworth and has also had a small role in the blockbuster sequel Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
UK viewers may also remember her for a guest appearance on All Creatures Great and Small as well as taking on the leading role in Belgravia: The Next Chapter.

Brian Fraser - Jamie Roy
Jamie's father, Brian Fraser, will be played by newcomer Jamie Roy, a Scottish actor taking on his first major TV role.
He has previously appeared in independent films such as Meeting You, Meeting Me and Condor's Nest as well as the TV movie Your Boyfriend Is Mine.

In addition to Blood of My Blood, he's set to appear in the indie movie Thelma & Weazy as well as short films Mann & Quinn and Bullseye.
Julia Moriston - Hermione Corfield
Julia Moriston, the mother of Claire Fraser née Beachamp, will be brought to life by English actress Hermione Corfield.

Appearing in some of the most high-profile films across the main cast, she's had supporting roles in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Star Wars: The Last Jedi to name just a few.
Corfield also took on the lead role of Freddy Lane in the Alibi crime drama We Hunt Together.

Henry Beauchamp - Jeremy Irvine
Claire's father, Henry Beauchamp, will be portrayed by English star Jeremy Irvine.
Arguably the most recognisable name in the main cast, Irvine is well-known for major roles in War Horse, Stonewall and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
He's also set to star in the upcoming horror video game adaptation Return to Silent Hill and was previously cast as DC superhero Alan Scott in the HBO Max series Lanterns before it was reworked to star Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre.

Supporting Cast
Blood of My Blood's four leads will be supported by a stellar ensemble of established talent and up-and-comers from across the UK.

Several beloved Scottish stars will be taking on major supporting roles, including Tony Curran (Doctor Who, Mary & George) as Jamie's grandfather Lord Lovat and Peter Mullan (Braveheart, The Underground Railroad) as Red Jacob MacKenzie.
Other familiar faces include Death in Paradise and Coronation Street's Sam Retford as Dougal MacKenzie, taking over from Graham McTavish, and Rebus star Séamus McLean Ross as Colum MacKenzie, replacing Gary Lewis.
Industry star Conor MacNeill will portray Ned Gowan and Line of Duty's Brian McCardie portrays Isaac Grant in his last TV appearance as he sadly died from aortic dissection in April last year.

The rest of the cast is as follows:
Rory Alexander as Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser

Chad Michael Murray reveals he was given last rites during teen health crisis

One Tree Hill star Chad Michael Murray has shared a harrowing story about a near-death experience when he was a teenager. The actor, now 43, said that when he was 15 years old, he lost '50 per cent' of the blood in his body and was 'on [his] deathbed.' On Friday's episode of the Great Company podcast, he told host Jamie Laing that he was in the hospital for two and a half months. He explained that his intestines became twisted, and he was suffering from internal bleeding. He said he didn't remember much from that experience as he was going 'in and out of consciousness' and had to undergo emergency surgery multiple times. This comes after Murray opened up about his mental health and revealed he was battling agoraphobia amid his One Tree Hill success when he was in his early 20s. And at one point during his near-death, teenage experience, the Freakier Friday star said that he saw his father talking to a priest about last rites at one point before his nurse gave him a blood transfusion to save his life. He explained that his organs shut down because the blood coagulated around them and he had to undergo a second surgery to 'clean up' around them. The actor added that during those weeks in the hospital, his weight had dropped from 180lb to a 118lb. He also recalled the names of the nurses who saved his life - Sandy, who gave him a blood transfusion, and Alana, who was a model. Murray said that the latter nurse told him to become a model first to 'segue' into his acting dreams - and even followed through on her promise to introduce him to a modeling company when he got out of the hospital. About the conversation that got him into Hollywood, he recalled: 'Alana says to me, "Oh gosh, you should model." I was like, "I don't want to model. I want to be an actor. Like, I love film and television. I want to give this gift to other people." 'And she's like, "Well, you can segue from modeling into acting. Look, when you get out, I'm hooking you up with this modeling company I know." And she meant it.' A few years after making his recovery, he made his big break and started landing major roles in hit teen dramas. Murray is known for playing the lead role of Lucas Scott in the CW teen drama series from 2003 to 2009 and again reprising his role in 2012. He also starred opposite Lindsay Lohan in Freaky Friday in 2003 and in the recently released sequel Freakier Friday. He is also known for playing the love interest of Hilary Duff's character in the 2004 romantic comedy A Cinderella Story. The actor is also known for making appearances on Gilmore Girls, Dawson's Creek, and Riverdale. On the podcast, Murray also said that he is focused on clean living - avoiding alcohol and eating healthy - nowadays to stay healthy. He is currently on a promo tour alongside co-stars Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis as they promote Freakier Friday.

'I refused Arsenal captain's order at training camp – he banned me from nights out for months'

David Bentley has opened up on the punishment he received from Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira after he sat in the skipper's seat while the squad were away at a training camp David Bentley has shared a hilarious anecdote about how Patrick Vieira banned him from nights out for months after the captain was teased at a training camp. Bentley – once tipped to be Arsenal's next big star – emerged in the first team set-up from the Gunners' academy back in 2001. ‌ Arsene Wenger 's tenure in north London is remembered as one of the most iconic in the club's history, including their unbeaten Premier League-winning season in 2003/04. While raw talent and exceptional teamwork were key to Arsenal's triumphs in the early noughties. ‌ However, the squad's no-nonsense approach both on and off the pitch – epitomised by Vieira's stern presence – also played a significant role. This was something Bentley quickly discovered after graduating from the Hale End youth system, finding himself in hot water with Vieira during his first training camp away with the senior stars. ‌ Speaking on the Undr The Cosh podcast, the now 40-year-old recalled his cheeky-chap antics as a teen at Arsenal, saying: "We used to go to Austria to this training camp where they always wanted to go up in the mountains, out the way. And I had no idea, it was my first time. "We've come down for breakfast, and what happened at Arsenal – it probably happens everywhere – was you had a French table, the English table, everybody used to kind of sit with people they get on with. "I've come down, me being me, I'm just wanting to be friends with everyone. I think I'm mates with everyone. French tables there, I think there's [Sylvain] Wiltord, [Robert] Pires and whoever. And there's a seat and I went, 'I'm sitting there.' So I've stepped in, and I've sat down and I went, 'Morning lads, you alright?' You know, 'What you up to last night? Have a good w***?' And all that, trying to be their mate. "And cause I don't like silence as well, I thought they can do that can't they? Be all calm. And as I've sat there, I've looked around and these lot are smirking. I'm going, 'They're on me here, I'm going to have to back myself up. They're mugging me off.' "And I just got a big slap, and I'm sat and I've looked up and Patrick, club captain... 'Get out my seat. You're in my seat.' And do you know when you're like, 'Ah f***, I'm red.' ‌ "In that moment, I thought, 'If I say yes, I'm going to look like a right mug, and if I say no, I'm going to look like a right mug. I can't win.' So I went with the option of, 'No.'" Bentley then revealed how he instantly wished he'd backed down, with Vieira stopping him from going out with his team-mates for months afterwards. He added (via Football London): "I mean, me and him are good mates now, and we were after and he quite liked it. ‌ "But for three, four months, I wasn't allowed to go on lads' nights out. I was kicked... honestly, every training session he'd snap me. I used to love it, I used to play with it. I used to go, 'Patrick, where we going tonight son?!' I think I turned up a couple of times, 'I know I'm not invited, but shut up!'" Sadly for Bentley, his time at Arsenal didn't quite pan out as expected, with only nine appearances to his name before being transferred to Blackburn Rovers in 2006. After netting 21 goals and providing an equal number of assists for Rovers, Bentley made his way back to north London to join Tottenham Hotspur. His career also included loan stints with Birmingham City, West Ham, Rostov and Blackburn before he decided to hang up his boots in July 2014, aged just 29.

Scottish BBC crime series brutally axed in huge blow to major actress

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info The UK crime comedy Annika, starring Nicola Walker as DI Annika Strandhed at the helm of the new Marine Homicide Unit, has been cancelled after just two series on Alibi UK. Despite the second series setting records for Alibi UK when it debuted in August 2021, it's now been confirmed that the show will not continue. The second series recently arrived on BBC iPlayer, having first been broadcast on BBC One in May 2023. A spokesperson shared with "We are incredibly proud of the success of Annika on U+Alibi, but there are no current plans for a third series." The programme was notable for its distinctive approach, with Annika often breaking the fourth wall to engage directly with viewers as the plot unfolded. Nicola Walker, also celebrated for her roles in Spooks, Unforgotten, and The Split, had previously expressed her initial concerns about adapting the character for television. (Image: BBC/UKTV/Graeme Hunter) She said: "When he started discussing the television adaptation, my initial concern was how to bring to life a world that had previously existed solely within Annika's imagination." Annika was adapted from a BBC Radio 4 drama and featured scripts predominantly penned by Nick Walker, who aimed to transform viewers into a 'sidekick' for the detective through the unique storytelling approach of the series, reports the Mirror. (Image: Graeme Hunter Pictures) Nicola recalled in a PBS interview: "Nick said immediately, 'We're going to break the fourth wall!' So, she still has Norwegian heritage, she is still an outsider, and she still has a different way of coping with life and work, but the hook is the fact that this is the only detective series where the audience is the silent sidekick. We are in cahoots with her." Whilst the popular series was still being filmed, Nicola confessed that one aspect of the role that really appealed to her was the lack of 'subtext' for the character, which was a result of directly addressing the viewers. (Image: BBC) She explained: "With most characters there is so much subtext. But there is no subtext with Annika because the subtext is her talking directly to you and telling you what she feels. "By the end, we are going to know her as well as she knows herself. On the first day, I kept stopping and laughing. It felt so wrong. But by the end, I was so into it, I was flicking looks at the camera all the time. "I'm very worried about my next job now – 'Why does she keep looking down the lens? It might have ruined me for the future." Nicola has become a familiar face on British television due to her roles in a number of hard-hitting dramas. She made her debut in the early 1990s, but her career really took off when she starred in A Mother's Son in 2012 and subsequently played a leading role in Sally Wainwright's Last Tango In Halifax over an eight-year span. Following her roles in Scott and Bailey and Prisoner's Wives, Nicola Walker secured the lead role as DCI Cassie Stuart in the first four series of Unforgotten, which delved into the complexities of her character's personal life. In 2021, she starred in Annika, alongside a cast that included Jamie Sives and Katie Leung, before Varada Sethu, known for her work on Doctor Who, joined for what turned out to be the show's second and concluding series. However, for Nicola, this end comes just a short while after Disney+ confirmed her role in the upcoming comedy series Alice and Steve. Written by Sophie Goodhart, the series will see Nicola portraying Alice, whose lifelong friendship with Steve (played by Jemaine Clement) is put to the test when he begins a romance with her daughter. Discussing her latest venture, anticipated for a 2026 release on the streaming platform, Nicola expressed: "I'm thrilled to be stepping into the fabulous world of friendship, motherhood, marriage frantic revenge and fierce love that Sophie Goodhart has created, and to be doing it with Jemaine Clement is completely joyful!" Jemaine Clement also shared his enthusiasm, stating: "I really relate to Steve – he's classy, stylish and an all-round good guy – except for when he isn't. I'm excited to be working with the wonderful Nicola Walker and seeing how Steve and Alice's relationship descends into absolute chaos!" Annika currently airs on BBC One each Saturday from 21:00 and can be streamed via iPlayer.
