Makaab Issues Public Apology to Kaizer Chiefs and Announces Social Media Break
'I reacted in an emotional manner without giving enough thought as to how this would be seen by all the stakeholders and Kaizer Chiefs,' said Makaab.
'I apologise to the SD Kaizer Jr and the club, as it was never my intention to create any problem for both him and the club.
'Contrary to what most of the supporters believe, I have nothing but respect and admiration for a great institution that has played such a major role in SA football.'
Following the events of the last few days, Makaab said he would like to avoid future incidents.
'I'm taking a small break from social media and hope to speak to all of you soon.'
Last week, Chiefs announced the departure of Chivaviro, who has left the club with immediate effect.
The forward joined Chiefs in June 2023, and the club chose not to extend his two-year contract.
In total, Chivaviro has made 45 appearances for Chiefs while scoring nine goals.
Chivaviro did not reach his full potential with Chiefs, as he struggled with injury during the 2023/2024 season.
Chiefs completed another deflating season in the Betway Premiership as they ended ninth, their second league campaign in a row in which they finished outside the top eight.

Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou wants to prove doubters wrong
Doubting Thomases abound and Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou is ready to knuckle down and prove them wrong. He started his tenure with an impressive MTN8 quarterfinal win over Polokwane City last weekend and his attention has shifted to the start of the Betway Premiership with Sekhukhune United at Orlando Stadium on Saturday. The Buccaneers go into this season's campaign under pressure to take the fight to Mamelodi Sundowns who are on a record-extending eight successive league championship wins. Though they have been impressive in cup competition over the past two years where they won five, Pirates have not laid their hands on the league trophy since 2012 and fans are desperate. 'When I finished played overseas, the first thing was to come back to Morocco. From there I went on to work in Benin, DRC, Algeria and now I am here in South Africa,' he said. Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou is aware there are those who doubt him. WATCH full press conference ➡️➡️➡️ — Mahlatse Mphahlele (@BraMahlatse) August 7, 2025 'When you are a coach, you start with small clubs where you must prove your competencies. Sometimes you cannot just get to a big club like Orlando Pirates which is where I am at the moment.' Ouaddou has taken over from Spaniard Jose Riveiro who endeared himself to the hard to please Pirates faithful by helping them to five trophies in three seasons with the club. 'Some people can be doubtful about me, but it is up to me to prove them (wrong). Unfortunately, I cannot change anything (about what they think of me). 'When I stopped as a player to become a coach, my dream was to come back to the continent because I lived for more thana 45 years in France.' Ouaddou said during his playing career with Stade Rennais, Valenciennes FC, AS Nancy in France, Fulham in England, Olympiacos in Greece and Qatar SC, he always had to prove himself. 'It is funny because I started as a professional football player in a small club where I signed a professional contract as an 18 year old. My dream was to move to bigger clubs and to play in the Champions League. You have to be ambitious. 'As an African coach, you have to prove yourself more than anybody else all the time. I was a football player in France and as an African and I had to prove myself ten times than locals to be a regular in the team. 'I played at Fulham and Olympiacos and it is a lot of work. You have to prove yourself many times and it is the same for as a coach. What is funny is that when you come back to the continent, there is still this thing that you have to prove yourself. 'I have no problem with that, I am happy to be at Orlando Pirates and I thank them for giving me this opportunity. Let's see what I am able to do at the end of the season. 'I hope to win the title with the help of my players and prove to everybody that I am able to reach that level.'

Eric Tinkler's questions Sipho Mbule's output at Sekhukhune ahead of Orlando Pirates opener
Eric Tinkler believes Sekhukhune United have the squad depth and quality to break into the top three this season. Photo: Backpagepix Image: Backpagepix Sekhukhune United will be chasing back-to-back league victories over Orlando Pirates when the two sides meet in their 2025/26 Betway Premiership opener at Orlando Stadium this Saturday (kick-off 5:30pm). Babina Noko enter the new season with confidence following another respectable campaign, having secured a fourth-place finish in the Premiership. Sekhukhune narrowly missed out on a spot in next season's CAF Confederation Cup, with Stellenbosch FC edging ahead late in the race to secure the final continental slot after their own deep run in the competition last season. Considering the challenges they faced, including a mid-season coaching change, Sekhukhune's achievements were admirable. Lehlohonolo Seema departed the club midway through the campaign and was replaced by former Cape Town City boss Eric Tinkler. Video Player is loading. Now preparing for a full season in charge, Tinkler will look to build on that solid foundation. Interestingly, one of his standout results last term came against Pirates—his former employers—when Sekhukhune edged the Soweto giants 1-0 in a tightly contested fixture that proved costly in the Sea Robbers' title charge. That victory gave Tinkler and his side a psychological boost, and they will be eager to replicate that outcome on Saturday against a Pirates team determined to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns for the title again this season. Both sides have been among the busiest in the transfer market, and Tinkler has overseen an active window, making several changes to the squad as he seeks to build a more balanced and competitive team. A number of new signings have arrived, while some familiar faces have departed. Among those to leave is Sipho Mbule, who spent last season on loan at Sekhukhune from Sundowns. The midfielder has since joined the Sea Robbers on a permanent deal and could now face his former teammates in the opening match of the season

PSL coaches all gunning for Mamelodi Sundowns, says Manqoba Mngqithi
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has a target on his back going into the new season. Image: Backpagepix Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns are once again the team to beat, with many PSL club coaches tipping them to secure an unprecedented ninth consecutive league title. Since the 2017/18 season, the club has enjoyed an unrivalled period of coaching success under Pitso Mosimane, Rhulani Mokwena, Manqoba Mngqithi, and now Miguel Cardoso. Cardoso, who guided the team to league glory during his short stint since December 2024, maintains a laser-focused approach. He said: 'We always need to push ourselves to achieve better as a team. Sundowns will continue to be a competitive side, but it will not be easy. The plan is at least to win cups this season, and the CAF Champions League will also be important.' Sundowns' formidable squad, known for its consistency and masterful navigation of the season's fixtures, is a significant concern for their rivals. The challenge they pose is no small task, and teams like Orlando Pirates are gearing up to give them a run for their money. Video Player is loading. AmaZulu FC, coached by Arthur Zwane, are also aiming to improve on last season's sixth-place finish. Zwane recognises the challenge of surpassing Sundowns but remains told reporters: 'Yes, everything favours Sundowns, but football is a funny are a lot of teams that are extremely strong and will give Sundowns a good run for their money.
