Sam bagged a 10p rug from B&M after discovering it was heavily discounted using her B&M scanner app
The full-time mum-of-two shops regularly at her two local stores every two days, and runs the Facebook group B&M Scanner And Other Bargains.
She set up the group in 2019 so she could share her scanning tips.
Now the community has grown to 328.k members, who post about the deals they have found in store.
"B&M is great - it sells everything you need, like snacks for the kids and household stuff," Sam said.

The secret to bagging the best deals is to use the B&M scanner app.
It can be found on the B&M Stores mobile app, which you can download for free from the App Store or Google Play.
There's a "scan" button on the bottom of the homepage on the app.
Simply point your phone's camera at an item's barcode, and the app will automatically bring up the price.

If an item's price hasn't been updated on the shelf, the app will tell you - and it's a great way of hunting out the best bargains.
Here's Sam's top scanner tips - and other tricks to make sure you're saving money in store.
Always scan last items in stock
If you spot just one last item left on the shelves, always make sure to scan it, says Sam.
Because it's the last one, it may have been discounted in price.

"If something looks out of place on the shelf or it's the one, scan it on your phone to check the price.
"My biggest bargain was a floor steamer for 10p, which originally was £60.
"It was one left sitting randomly in the store, so I scanned it but the app said the product wasn't found, so I went to the till to check the price.
"I then discovered it was 10p. I thought it was brilliant - I gave it to my mum."

Check the packaging
If the same item has different packaging, make sure to scan it, says Sam.
Sometimes, manufacturers will update the packaging of an item.
This might mean that if the same item is in the old packaging style, then it may have been discounted to make way for the new stock.
"I got a window vac for £1 last year - I spotted that there was the same model of window vac but in different packaging compared to others on the shelf," Sam said.

"When I scanned the window vac in the different packaging with my phone, it was listed as £1, whereas the others were £20."
Red and white stickers
You may have heard of yellow sticker items, but B&M puts red and white stickers on discounted products to tell customers what the new price is.
These stickers are not usually used by B&M, Sam said, but it is worth keeping an eye out for them when you're next shopping in store.
If you spot a sticker item, it's worth scanning it with your app.

This is because the price may have gone down again.
Go on Wednesday morning
The best time to shop for new bargains is Wednesday morning, according to Sam.
This is usually when prices usually go down.
"Go bright and early," she said. "I got a pair of Wave 100 JBL earphones which were £1 down from £10 on a Wednesday morning recently."

To beat other shoppers, set an alarm early on your phone.
Shop while the kids are in school
Sometimes it's hard to say no to the kids if they spot toys or sweets in store.
That's why Sam makes sure to shop in store while her two children, Shanae, 16, and Keighan, 11, are at school.
That way, she can monitor her budget and make sure she's not overspending on her shopping trips.

"As a single mum, I need to make sure I'm saving where I can," she said.
Ask staff for help
If you scan an item using your scanner but the price isn't listed, don't just put the item back.
Take it to a member of staff and ask them to check the price - you may find it's a bargain.
"I recently scanned a rug on my app, but it said that the barcode wasn't found, so I took it to the till.

"They checked and said it was 10p. The rug was originally £40 - I thought it was great, so I've put it in my living room."
It might be an idea making friends with staff at your local branch.
They may be able to share helpful intel on which items have recently dropped in price.
Here's the best time to shop at B&M.

M&S warning issued amid expiry dates for paper vouchers

Vouchers are a popular way to give someone funds to spend in the supermarket, but paper gift vouchers were phased out some years ago. Now, M&S is reminding customers that those with any must spend them before they expire soon. UK Supermarket Rankings 2025 Can I still use paper vouchers in M&S? Paper gift vouchers were issued by M&S directly to customers up until 2012 and to other businesses to 2016, and are in £1, £5, £10 and £25 denominations. However, from October 1, 2025, M&S stores in the UK will no longer accept paper gift vouchers as a form of payment. All paper gift vouchers must be spent by September 30. M&S says the move to modernise its gift voucher proposition is to "provide greater security for customers and provide more ways for them to redeem their vouchers". Until September 30, customers can redeem a paper gift voucher for products in-store. They can also exchange the paper gift voucher for a gift card, which can be used both in-store and online. If the total value of paper gift vouchers to be exchanged is £100 or less, this can be done in-store. If the value of the paper gift vouchers being exchanged is more than £100, ring the M&S contact centre on 0333 014 8000. Where can I buy a Marks and Spencer gift card? For those without paper vouchers but looking to buy an M&S gift card, there are a number of ways you can purchase one. 5 ways to save money on your weekly food shop Naturally, M&S vouchers are available in their stores and on the M&S website. They are also available in other supermarkets, such as Asda and Tesco. You can also find them at online retailers like Amazon and One4all. Recommended reading: When do M&S gift cards expire? Similar to M&S paper vouchers, the supermarket's gift cards also expire, but fear not, they likely have a longer life span remaining. As explained on the M&S website, gift cards and e-gift cards are valid for 48 months from the last transaction, which includes the initial card load, adding or spending funds, or balance enquiries.

Tesco shopper finds receipt from 27 years ago and is floored by prices

One woman went online to share a photo of a Tesco receipt from 1998. She was gobsmacked by the prices things were back then, however not everyone was that startled by the difference Many Brits are often left gobsmacked by the price of things in the supermarket these days, what with the pressures of the ongoing cost of living crisis. And one woman has shone a light about just how much prices have gone up in the last few decades after she found a picture of a Tesco receipt from 27 years ago. ‌ The woman, named Lauren, took to X to share the photo of the 1998 receipt, with it later making its way onto Facebook too. It showed that the shopper had got a total of 22 food and drink items for just £27.96 One item made up the bulk of the bill too, costing £10.99, however it was scribbled out on the receipt meaning people couldn't see what it actually was. ‌ The receipt revealed how much cheaper items were then, with cola costing 23p, compared to 80p for Tesco's own brand 2L bottle today. ‌ A box of Weetabix also came in at just 65p in comparison to £3.50 for a box of 24 now. Cooking oil was only 53p back then too, however it will cost you at least £1.99 for a bottle in Tesco these days, while a bunch of flowers would only set you back £1.66 27 years ago. ‌ Cat food was only 48p also, however the cheapest box you'll find in Tesco these days is £2.59. Captioning the snap, Lauren wrote: "Found a picture of a 27-year-old receipt which came to £27.96. "While I couldn't find every item on the Tesco website, I could definitely make educated guesses, so by my estimation this would case you £79.64 today." ‌ People were shocked by how cheap some items were as the post went viral – racking up more than 8,000 likes. One startled shopper exclaimed: "Weetabix is how much?" While another added: "Cooking oil 53p? Wow!" ‌ A third chimed in: "Ah, the golden years of 1998 Tesco shopping. They were the best of times... if only we know then. Peak civilisation." Someone else asked: "What's the 10.99 item?", as one person joked: "Probably a down payment for a house." Another person quipped: "Maybe a washing machine?" However, despite some people being shocked over the difference in costs, others pointed out that it was 'just inflation' and that the prices were from nearly 30 years ago.
