UFC 319 faces disruption after back-to-back fight cancellations within 24 hours

King Green (Image Source: Getty) Sudden upheaval has struck UFC 319, which was set to be headlined by the highly anticipated middleweight title clash between champion Dricus du Plessis and challenger Khamzat Chimaev. Injuries sidelined two primary undercard bouts just a day before fight night in Chicago; the fights on the eve of the main card were aimed at building momentum for the main card. It is this rare double punch that has made the promotion scramble, changing the card at the last minute. King Green vs. Diego Ferreira pulled as Green says 'I can't walk' The first match to fall was that of UFC veteran King Green vs. Diego Ferreira, a lightweight bout which was withdrawn with less than 48 hours to go until UFC 319 after Green sustained an undisclosed injury. Then Green posted a very emotional, bloody, and 'real' Instagram story after, which read: "I said I would never pull out of a fight… this one is different. I can't even f***ing walk.' Ferreira, who had been pursuing the fight for some time, expressed his frustration but remained optimistic about the possibility of rescheduling. He labeled Green as "a veteran" and said he wished it had happened later in the process. The only casualty of the rearrangement is UFC 319 losing its marquee middleweight title fight. TUF 33 welterweight finale also cancelled, to be rescheduled Within three hours of the Green-Ferreira fight being scratched, another bout fell through, this one the welterweight final of Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 33 between Rodrigo Sezinando and Daniil Donchenko. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 20 Pieces of Clothing Older Women should Avoid Learn More Undo The reason for the cancellation comes from a fight week injury, though it is now known which of the two fighters has been struck down. U FC officials intend to rebook the match for later, and several outlets report that Noche UFC 3 on September 13 in San Antonio is the new target. A flyweight TUF finale between Alibi Idiris and Joseph Morales is still on the card and remains tentatively slated to move forward as scheduled. UFC adds fresh matchup in the middleweight division To balance out the card and to make sure that it doesn't decline depth, the UFC quickly added a middleweight bout featuring a pair of newcomers: Baisangur Susurkaev (9-0) and Eric Nolan (8-3). Susurkaev had only booked his place in the Octagon at a Tuesday finish on Dana White's Contender Series, while Nolan rides in off a four-fight win streak. That being said, the headline attraction is still intact while providing new interest with a newly minted middleweight clash. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!

Dabang Delhi K.C. aim to recapture PKL title as post-Naveen Kumar era begins

Pro Kabaddi League Season 8 champions Dabang Delhi K.C. will be eager to reclaim the PKL title after crashing out in the semi-finals last season. They have been one of the most consistent teams in recent years and have reached the Playoffs in each of the last six PKL Season 12 will see Dabang Delhi K.C. continue with Joginder Narwal as their head coach. Under his tutelage, Dabang Delhi K.C. was one of the most dominant teams last campaign. With 13 wins in 22 games, the Delhi-based outfit finished second in the PKL Season 11 standings with 81 points, before they went down to Patna Pirates in the Season 12: Schedule Dabang Delhi K.C. were the busiest at the PKL Season 12 Player Auction as they added 16 players in the two-day event. Having spent INR 4.899 crore, Dabang Delhi K.C. assembled a strong squad that covered most of their bases. Here's a closer look at the strengths and weaknesses of Dabang Delhi K.C. ahead of PKL Season Delhi K.C.'s biggest strength has to be the quality and experience of the raiders and defenders in their squad. The Pro Kabaddi Season 8 winners used their Final Bid Match (FBM) card at the PKL Season 12 auction to retain their star raider Ashu Malik for two seasons for a whopping INR 1.90 crore. Dabang Delhi K.C. have added talented raider Neeraj Narwal for INR 32.60 lakh and acquired the services of experienced raider Ajinkya Ashok Pawar for INR 13 lakh at the Dabang Delhi K.C. have roped in Fazel Atrachali, the most successful defender in Pro Kabaddi League history, at the Season 12 Player Auction for his base price of INR 30 lakh. The Iranian left corner is the first player to reach 500 tackle points in Pro Kabaddi League and has already racked up 545 tackle points in 188 games so Delhi K.C. have also snapped up seasoned right cover Surjeet Singh for INR 20 lakh, added Iranian right corner Amir Hossein Bastami for INR 30 lakh, and signed experienced left corner Saurabh Nandal for INR 13 lakh to bolster their defensive unit. WeaknessesWhile Dabang Delhi K.C. have assembled a formidable squad on paper, the departure of their talismanic captain and star raider Naveen Kumar ahead of PKL Season 12 cannot be overlooked. Naveen, who was an integral member of Dabang Delhi K.C since 2018, guided the team to their maiden Pro Kabaddi title in 2022. Representing the franchise, Naveen also won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in back-to-back editions in Season 7 and 8. He earlier forged a successful partnership with Ashu Malik and created havoc in the opposition's defence. Furthermore, Dabang Delhi K.C. may have to deal with the lack of quality all-rounders in their squad in the upcoming season. Amit, Ashish Kumar Sangwan, Naveen and Arkam Shaikh are the only recognised all-rounders in their squad, and they will need to produce impactful performances. OpportunitiesadvertisementPro Kabaddi Season 12 will be a great opportunity for players like Neeraj Narwal, Anil Gurjar, Mohit, Vijay and Akshit to step up and make the most of the chances they could receive in the Dabang Delhi K.C.'s raiding unit. While accomplished raider Ashu Malik will once again lead their attack, he will need support from other talented raiders if Dabang Delhi K.C. are to clinch the PKL Season 12 a below-par campaign with Bengal Warriorz last season, Iranian defender Fazel Atrachali will be hoping to return to his best and guide Dabang Delhi K.C. to PKL glory. ThreatsA lot of how Dabang Delhi K.C.'s season unfolds could also depend on the form of Ashu Malik. Ashu has been one of the leading raiders in the league and has accumulated 538 raid points in the last 46 matches of the previous two squad also lacks quality all-rounders that could pose a significant area of concern to the team's fortunes in the upcoming Pro Kabaddi season. - Ends

'This Auction Could Be In His Name': Aakash Chopra Shares Insights On Ex-RCB Star

Last Updated: Aakash Chopra has predicted that Cameron Green might be the priciest player in IPL 2026 mini auction, citing his strong batting form. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has said that star Australia all-rounder Cameron Green could be the most expensive player in the IPL 2026 mini auction, which is expected to be held later this year or early next year. He pointed out that Green has been among the runs since his return from injury and may begin bowling soon. Green smashed 35 runs off just 13 balls in Australia's 17-run victory over South Africa in the first T20I in Darwin on Sunday, August 10. In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra reckoned that Green may be the most prized acquisition at the IPL 2026 mini auction. 'Cameron Green, I feel he could be the most expensive player in the auction. Since he has returned from injury, his batting form is already incredible. He isn't yet ready to bowl, but will start bowling at some stage," Chopra said. 'He is batting in the top order at the moment because he isn't bowling. If he starts bowling and considering the batting ability he has, he could break the bank. People will spend a lot of money on him," Chopra said. 'That's what I feel. So this auction could be in Cameron Green's name," the former India cricketer added. Green, who opted out of IPL 2025 because of an injury, scored 255 runs at a strike rate of 143.25 in 12 matches for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024. 'The Mumbai Indians figure out everyone before time. I am going to take four names, who they had, but they let them go. So could the overseas player management have been better?" Chopra questioned. 'They (MI) had Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, Tim David and Green and all in one year. These four players were together with them in the squad and now not even one is there," Chopra added. 'The Mumbai Indians have a very rich legacy of spotting talent, but they would want to change one thing. Just as they are with Indian talent, maybe they will have to exercise a bit more patience with their overseas recruits, especially the greenhorns they catch," Chopra said. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
