Pelicans rookie Derik Queen out at least 3 months after surgery for torn wrist ligament

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Pelicans rookie Derik Queen is likely to miss at least the start of training camp after having surgery Friday to repair a torn ligament in his left wrist. Queen was hurt Tuesday while playing in an NBA Summer League game. The Pelicans said he would be evaluated again in approximately 12 weeks, which would be after camps have begun. The procedure Friday was to address a torn scapholunate ligament. It was performed by Dr. Steven Shin in Los Angeles. The 6-foot-9 Queen was the Big Ten freshman of the year after averaging 16.5 points for Maryland. His buzzer-beater against Colorado State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament sent the Terrapins into the Sweet 16, where they lost to eventual national champion Florida. He was taken with the No. 13 pick in the draft by Atlanta and the Pelicans acquired his rights in a trade. ___ AP NBA:

Could Detroit Target Michigan's Jacob Trouba?

Anaheim's Jacob Trouba enters the final-year of his deal and could return to his home state of Michigan. The 2026 NHL Free Agent class has the potential to be the biggest in league history with some of the biggest names up for grabs. Barring a similar event to this year where all the top players re-sign, we could see a major shake up within the hockey fans look to biggest names like Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel and Artemi Panarin among others on the block and salivate at the idea of their team nabbing one of the league's best. For Detroit fans, there's a name to look out for in the bunch that could be a potential option for the Red Wings is Anahiem's Jacob Trouba. The 6-foot-3 right-shot defenceman is entering the final year of his eight-year deal with an annual cap hit at $8 million per season. The Rochester native has showcased elite talent on the defensive end with crushing hits and decent 30-40 point upside in the right situation but recently has been widely criticized for his defensive play as of late with three straight seasons with a minus rating. This could be due to recent turbulent relationships with New York Rangers management when he played there and was the captain from 2019 until this past season when he was dealt to Anaheim. He will likely look for a better situation if he doesn't like California and could look to return home to the East coast. The Red Wings have plenty of room to improve on the backend with Moritz Seider being their only legitimate option while Simon Edvinsson continues developing. Red Wings' DeBrincat Goes On Top Gun-Style Adventure with U.S. Navy Blue Angels Detroit's Alex DeBrincat experienced a high-flying thrill ride with the U.S. Navy's elite Blue Angels pilot team in new video. Trouba could work as a solid addition to the second pairing and allow a lottery ticket in Jacob Benard-Docker a more conservative role as the third line right defenceman. A low-cost cap hit at roughly $5-6 million per season could be enough to bring in the 31-year-old blueliner and potentially give Trouba an unexpected morale boost due to being close to family. Jacob Trouba's standout NHL season came in 2018–19, when he tallied a career-high 50 points, including 42 assists, tying him for ninth among defensemen alongside stars like Erik Karlsson and Victor Hedman. That season, he also ranked second among Jets defensemen with 112 hits and led the team with 171 blocked shots, placing him sixth overall in the NHL in that category. The hope would be with the morale boost, Trouba could hit close to these marks and become a massive difference-making defenceman for Detroit.
