Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara: Karnataka will regulate online games based on report
The government would take action after the committee led by senior IPS officer Pranab Mohanty submits its report in September, said Dr Parameshwara.
The online gaming market in India is more than $590 million, the House was told by IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge.
Dr Parameshwara said that youth are getting addicted to online games and betting, leading to social concerns.
He said in the last three years 347 cases have been booked related to online gaming.
This includes 84 in 2023, 104 and 159 cases.
In 2021, the previous BJP government had amended the Karnataka Police Act to prohibit online games. This was challenged by the All-India Gaming Federation and the Act was struck down by the High Court in 2022. The state government has challenged this before the Supreme Court.

Haryana Police IGP, CP to get prez's medal for distinguished service
Two Haryana IPS officers and 11 state police personnel were selected for President's medal for distinguished service and medal for meritorious service respectively on the occasion of Independence Day. Panipat DSP (traffic) Suresh Kumar, inspector Dharmender posted at Haryana State Enforcement Bureau, Panchkula, sub inspector (SI) Ashok Kumar posted at Rohtak, inspector Rajesh Kumar posted at IT Cell, Dial 112, Panchkula, SI Yashpal Singh posted at Faridabad, inspector Harkesh Kumar posted at Sunaria in Rohtak, inspector Mahabir Singh posted at IRB Bhondsi, inspector Joginder Singh posted at HAP Madhuban; and SI Sohan Lal posted at Haryana chief minister's residence.

Subsequent allottees of flats in cooperative societies to pay stamp duty now
The Punjab Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Thursday approved an amendment to the Punjab Cooperative Societies Act, 1961 and the withdrawal of stamp duty and registration fee exemptions for certain classes of cooperative societies. Currently, the Act provides exemptions from compulsory registration, originally intended to facilitate the development of cooperative institutions. However, this provision enabled property transactions, particularly in urban housing societies, to take place without formal registration or the payment of stamp duty and registration fees, said the spokesperson. With this amendment, residents who buy apartments/flats from original allottees or subsequent buyers will now have to pay stamp duty while getting their property registered with the revenue department of the government from now on. The situation has encouraged unregistered possession, benami transactions, and other legally risky arrangements. Therefore, an amendment to Section 37 of the Act has been made by adding Clauses 2 and 3. These clauses stipulate that the State Government may, through a notification in the Official Gazette, direct that the exemption under sub-section (1), or any part thereof, shall not apply to certain classes of cooperative societies or specified categories of instruments. Upon the issuance of such a notification, the instruments so notified shall be deemed to fall within the scope of clauses (b) and (c) of sub-section (1) of Section 17 of the Indian Registration Act, 1908, and will accordingly be subject to compulsory registration under that Ac. Panchayat development secretary post To enhance the development of rural areas through proper execution and supervision, the Cabinet also approved the creation of the post of Panchayat Development Secretary by merging the cadres of Panchayat Secretaries and Gram Sevaks (Village Development Officers). Subsequently, a state cadre will be constituted for these posts to accelerate rural development across Punjab. For existing Panchayat Secretaries, a dying cadre will be created, who will be placed based on their self-declaration letters and as per their seniority, following the existing Gram Sevaks in the seniority list.

Dharmasthala burials case: It's an international conspiracy, says BJP
Bengaluru: Opposition BJP Thursday claimed the investigation into alleged mass murders in Dharmasthala was part of another attempt to defame and demean Hindu religious institutions and alleged a network of "urban Naxals and foreign nationals" was behind the conspiracy. During a half-hour debate in the assembly on the case, BJP members said vested interests were attempting to hurt Hindu sentiments. However, home minister G Parameshwara insisted the special investigation team (SIT) was formed to get to the truth "and not play politics" and that a detailed reply would be presented Monday. Opposition leader R Ashoka called it "a national conspiracy". "They began with Tirupati with the seven hills, then went on to Shani Shingnapura and reached Sabarimala, where women were encouraged to enter the premises. He accused conspirators of using the 2012 Soujanya murder case, in which the accused was released for lack of evidence, as an excuse to defame Dharmasthala temple and its trust. "A single remark of alleged communal disharmony against a certain community results in our Hindu workers being booked and sent to jail. But when it comes to remarks posted on social media hurting Hindu sentiments, not a single case is booked," he said. Ashoka accused the govt of being party to efforts to defame Hindu society and demanded that the administration present an interim report on the special investigation team's (SIT) probe. He also called for disclosure of the man behind the mask who is leading investigators to the alleged mass burial sites. We only want to get to the bottom of the truth."
