BEAUFORT: A 1.5-metre-long crocodile weighing 20kg was captured after it reportedly entered a house compound in Kampung Lajau, last Thursday. Beaufort Civil Defence Force (APM) Officer Captain Hazlee Shah Abd Hamid said a team was dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving an emergency call at 12.50am. 'The crocodile was secured using a special snare before being tied up and brought to the APM base. It was handed over to the Wildlife Department (Perhilitan) the following day,' he said. In Kampung Kabajang, a resident and his wife managed to trap a baby cobra that had entered their home. 'My wife quickly covered it with a bucket. I then stepped on it until it died. Our house is close to a forest and I believe the mother snake is still nearby,' he said. In a separate incident at Beaufort Sentral on Wednesday, a trader, Norhayani Awang, had a shocking encounter when a baby python was found hiding beneath her vehicle. She called her husband and son, who later managed to capture the reptile. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Former Singapore cop accused of molesting at least six boys, filming explicit acts over Telegram
SINGAPORE, July 25 — A former police inspector is accused of committing multiple sexual offences, including molestation and creating explicit content involving minors, with at least six boys. The alleged crimes include targeting three boys in a single day in April 2024, according to a report published in The Straits Times today. Sharizal Shafi'ee, 40, is said to have victimised three 14-year-olds and three 15-year-olds while he was still serving in the Singapore Police Force. He has since resigned and was charged with 15 offences on July 25. According to court documents, on July 31, 2023, Sharizal allegedly convinced a 15-year-old boy to engage in a sexual act during a video call on Telegram while in a Jurong West flat. He reportedly recorded the act using his phone. On August 20, 2023, he allegedly repeated similar offences with a 14-year-old in the same flat and again two days later with the same victim. In November 2023, Sharizal is accused of targeting another 15-year-old twice — first on November 12 and again on November 17 — persuading the teen to perform sexual acts over Telegram video calls and recording them. On April 18, 2024, he allegedly committed offences against three more victims. First, he reportedly engaged in similar acts with a third 15-year-old. Later that day, he allegedly attempted to solicit an obscene act from a second 14-year-old along Jurong West Avenue 1, asking the boy to adjust his bra before touching him inappropriately. The reason for Sharizal wearing a bra was not disclosed in court documents. That same day, he allegedly molested a third 14-year-old at a staircase landing in a Jurong West housing block. In response to queries from The Straits Times, police confirmed that Sharizal had been removed from front-line duties before resigning on June 16, 2024. A police spokesperson stated: 'Officers of the Singapore Police Force are expected to uphold the law and maintain the highest standards of conduct and integrity. We deal with officers who break the law seriously, including charging them in court. We are unable to comment further as court proceedings are ongoing.' Sharizal's case has been adjourned to August 22. If convicted of molestation, he faces up to three years' jail, a fine, caning, or a combination of these penalties. For each charge of producing explicit material involving a minor, the maximum punishment is 10 years' jail, a fine, or caning.

Ex-Singapore cop faces 15 charges over sex offences involving at least six boys, producing child porn
SINGAPORE: A former police inspector allegedly committed sex-related offences – including molestation and producing sexually explicit material showing minors – involving at least six boys. He allegedly targeted three boys in one day in April 2024. Sharizal Shafi'ee's alleged offences involved three 14-year-old and three 15-year-old boys, and were allegedly committed while he was still with the Singapore Police Force. The 40-year-old, who has since left the force, was handed 15 charges on July 25. Court documents stated he was in a Jurong West flat on July 31, 2023, when he allegedly persuaded a 15-year-old boy to perform a sexual act over a video call via messaging platform Telegram. Sharizal allegedly used his mobile phone to record the teenager doing so. He was in the same flat on Aug 20, 2023, when he allegedly committed similar offences involving a 14-year-old boy. Sharizal is said to have committed the same offences again with the same boy two days later. He is accused of targeting a second 15-year-old boy twice in November 2023. Similarly, Sharizal allegedly persuaded the teenager to perform a sexual act over a Telegram video call on Nov 12 and 17 that year. After that, he purportedly used his mobile phone to record the teenager doing so on both occasions. On April 18, 2024, he allegedly targeted three victims, first by allegedly committing similar offences against a third 15-year-old boy. He is accused of attempting to procure an obscene act from a second 14-year-old boy along a pavement in Jurong West Avenue 1 that day. Court documents stated Sharizal allegedly requested the teenager's help to adjust Sharizal's bra and asked the boy to follow him. Court documents did not disclose why Sharizal was allegedly wearing the bra at the time. Sharizal allegedly did this so he could touch the boy in an obscene manner. Sharizal allegedly struck again that day when he allegedly molested a third 14-year-old boy at a staircase landing of a Jurong West block of flats. Responding to queries from The Straits Times, the police said they had removed Sharizal from front-line duties before he resigned on June 16, 2024. A police spokesperson added: 'Officers of the Singapore Police Force are expected to uphold the law and maintain the highest standards of conduct and integrity. We deal with officers who break the law seriously, including charging them in court. 'We are unable to comment further as court proceedings are ongoing.' Sharizal's case has been adjourned to Aug 22. If convicted of molestation, he can be jailed for up to three years, fined, caned, or receive any combination of such punishments. For each count of producing a sexually explicit video showing a minor, an offender can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined or caned. - The Straits Times/ANN

Taiping prison officer admits he hit inmates, apologises at Suhakam inquiry
Published on: Friday, July 25, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jul 25, 2025 By: Yee Suet Mun, FMT Text Size: Suhakam is holding an inquiry into the alleged abuse of more than 100 inmates at Taiping prison by about 60 wardens on Jan 17. (Facebook pic) Kuala Lumpur: A prison officer has apologised after admitting to hitting inmates during an incident at Taiping prison on Jan 17, saying he lost control after being provoked by insults and threats. Dzulizwar Bakir, who holds the rank of sergeant, said the inmates had hurled vulgarities and threats against the officers' families, which triggered his emotional outburst. '(For) what happened during that incident, I sincerely apologise. I was angry, but I had no intention of injuring or hurting anyone,' Dzulizwar, who was stationed at the prison's main gate, told the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia's (Suhakam) inquiry into the alleged abuse of more than 100 inmates by about 60 wardens during the incident. The commission is investigating claims of brutality that allegedly led to the death of one inmate and injuries to several others. Asked if it was appropriate to use force on inmates simply because they had insulted the prison officers, Dzulizwar replied: 'It's not appropriate.' Earlier, he admitted that he failed to control his emotions after the inmates provoked him and the other officers with explicit words and threats to rape their wives and children. 'If they insulted us, we could still accept it. But it involved family, I couldn't stay quiet,' he said. Asked by Suhakam chairman Hishamudin Yunus whether his actions could be justified under any circumstances, Dzulizwar agreed they could not. He said the inmates' defiance stemmed from their transfer to Block E, which had poorer living conditions, including dirty cells, and the use of bucket toilets, as well as stricter rules. He said many of the inmates had grown accustomed to more lenient discipline at the Bukit Gajah facility from where they were transferred, making them more resistant and agitated following the relocation order. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
