Enzo Maresca: Chelsea manager issues damning verdict on unwanted Blues stars
The Italian is keen to oversee a fire-sale at Stamford Bridge to allow for the arrival of more fresh faces, while also cutting down the Blues' bloated squad.
He has already allowed Joao Felix, Djordje Petrovic, Noni Madueke, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Kepa Arrizabalga depart among others.
The Blues omitted nine names from their first-team squad list, including the likes of Ben Chilwell, Raheem Sterling, and Carney Chukwuemeka.
Chelsea have a much shorter pre-season than most, having won the Club World Cup back in July before giving their players three weeks off.
The squad returned to training earlier this week ahead of two friendlies in three days, against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan.
In his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash against Erik ten Hag's Leverkusen, Maresca said that he did not 'pay attention' to the players he had earmarked for an exit.
He even admitted that he learned of one departure because his press officer had just told him.
"The situation, I think, is quite clear. They are training, I guess they are waiting for a solution," said Maresca of those he deems surplus to requirements.
"But when they leave, it's just the club that texts me or calls me, even Tom [media officer], he just mentioned to me that Lesley [Ugochukwu] joined Burnley.
"I have this kind of news from him or from the club because I don't pay attention to the ones that need to leave. I just focus on how we prepare the session, how we can win games.
"For sure, it's much better to work with 25 players than the biggest number, no doubt. At this moment, we are working with the ones that we want."
Ugochukwu's £20million move to Burnley will make the Frenchman the second Chelsea player to move to Turf Moor, after Bashir Humphreys made the switch earlier this summer.
Striker Armanda Broja is expected to join them, while Dewsbury-Hall's move to Everton for £25m was confirmed on Wednesday.

Hughes on team news and player decisions ahead of Blues' opening game
Mark Hughes has suggested that Carlisle United's recent injury absentees are likely to miss out on the opening game of the season. But the head coach has suggested that sidelined players are not far away from returning to action. Hughes gave a limited update on the injury front two days ahead of Carlisle's first National League game at Woking on Saturday. Asked about players who have missed recent pre-season action, the head coach said: 'Some of them are behind, not to any great extent, only maybe a week behind, but for the most part the squad's fit and healthy, apart from the ones that haven't been available to in the pre-season period. 'There hasn't been any great change from the last couple of weeks, really. 'We're pretty much where we were last week.' Players such as Morgan Feeney and Jordan Jones have not featured at all in pre-season, with others such as Stephen Wearne and Josh Grant having also missed recent games. Asked by the News & Star about Feeney's progress, Hughes said: 'He's one of those that is on track. 'He's working on the pitch now, so that's a positive. Touch wood, he hasn't had any setbacks.' Hughes, asked how far away players such as midfielder Grant were from returning, simply said: 'I'll refer you to my previous answer – about the same. A week better than they were a week ago.' Winger Jones, who is said to have suffered pre-season injuries, has also been the subject of speculation from some fans about his future with the Blues. 'I haven't told the group yet – I'll speak to them first and then you'll know very quickly,' he said. United's boss confirmed he was still looking at midfield as an area to strengthen. He did not rule out making 'a couple' more additions to his squad. Hughes said things were 'pretty quiet' on the incoming front at the moment but added that things can always develop quickly. Asked if any positions had been more difficult than others in terms of recruitment, he said: 'No, not really. I think it's not an exact science, recruitment. You have to wait for the apples to fall from the trees sometimes. 'It's about being patient. We've been able to do good early business, with getting Morgs [Feeney] and Regan [Linney] in fairly early. We're really pleased with that bit of business we did early on. 'So we've reaped the benefit, albeit Morgs hasn't had much luck with the injury that he's had, but he's getting better. 'There have been steady additions to the group and I think I'm more than happy with what we've been able to do. We've brought good players in, players that I think will help us this year. 'That's the reason they're here. It's fair to say we've probably got spaces for one or two, but not too many more than that.' Regan Linney: 'I can't wait to score loads of goals for the fans...' Hughes also said a greater focus over the coming weeks would be on reducing the size of a squad he regards as top-heavy in numbers. Asked if United had found it difficult to move players on at this stage, given the contracts and wages some of the squad were on, he said: 'No, it's just the reality. 'It's easier to acquire players than it is sometimes to move them on, when it's probably better for them to leave or it makes more sense to have those spaces in the squad for the players. 'There's lots of things you have to go through for it to be a win-win for everybody.' Barrow add Championship forward - League Two transfer round-up
Barrow have signed experienced striker Tom Barkhuizen as a new frontman, among many big signings going on around League Two. The season has begun, but with just under a month to go in the transfer window, clubs have been busy making sure that their squads keep improving. Arguably the most notable player to enter the league is 32-year-old winger Barkhuizen, who has had an extensive career in the Championship with Preston North End and Derby County. Andy Whing's new man played 19 times in the second tier just last season, but has now headed to Barrow to add further firepower to their team. Ellis Harrison has joined Bristol Rovers as another attacking option after a disappointing year with MK Dons and Walsall. They have also picked up Swiss forward Fabrizio Cavegn for an undisclosed fee from FC Vaduz. Louis Appere swapped Northampton Town for Cambridge United as another striking option for Neil Harris after he gave up on getting Harry Smith. The U's also signed Shane McLoughlin from Newport County. Another striker on the move has been Jake Bickerstaff, who once scored against Michael Flynn's Swindon Town for Wrexham, but has now joined him at Cheltenham Town on loan from the Red Dragons. Cheltenham had a slow start to the window, but have also added Jokubas Mazionis on loan from Ipswich Town and James Wilson from Bristol Rovers. Former Swindon midfielder Ronan Darcy has joined one of the title favourites in Chesterfield, on loan from Wigan Athletic. Notts County have been busy in the loan market, adding central midfielder Tyrese Hall from Tottenham Hotspur and Jayden Luker from Luton Town, as well as Keanen Bennetts on a permanent deal. Newport County have also been active, bringing in right-back Liam Shephard from Salford City and Swansea City youngster Ben Lloyd on loan. Elsewhere, Walsall have signed Lewis Warrington and Jake Hollman, Josh Powell has headed to Colchester United on loan, Accrington Stanley loaned Joe Bauress from Burnley, Gillingham added Lenni Cirino, and Barnet signed goalkeeper Joe Wright.

‘One of the coldest, ever': Boston's Derrick White reflects on Rockets star Kevin Durant
Veteran guard Derrick White has long been known as a good NBA defender, and he got to know Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant well during their recent time with Team USA. Last summer, that United States national team won the men's basketball gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
