One of the recipients, Sabah State Information Department photographer Vicky Sylvester Matanjang, 52, said he was moved by the kind gesture of Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who personally visited his home in Kampung Hungab here today to deliver the contribution. 'I feel appreciated, even though I'm just a photographer. Today is my first day back at work, but I'm only doing light duties as I haven't fully recovered,' said Vicky, who sustained serious injuries in a road accident in March. He said the initiative also reflected the Madani government's concern for the welfare of those facing hardship, especially media practitioners nationwide. Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa; Bernama chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin; Sabah State Information Department director Jainisah Mohd Noor; and Sabah Journalists Association (SJA) president Mariah Doksil. Sabah Media journalist Hafizul Andie Zulkarnain, 35, who is still recovering from surgery for a bowel complication and ruptured appendix in June, expressed his heartfelt thanks after receiving the contribution from Nur-ul Afida at his residence in Sepanggar, Kota Kinabalu, last Tuesday. 'Thank you for taking the time to visit and hand over the contribution. It will definitely help with my treatment expenses during my recovery,' he said. Meanwhile, Nur-ul Afida said media associations in Sabah could reach out to the secretariat of Tabung Kasih@Hawana, managed by Bernama, to provide information on media practitioners facing health issues or hardships. 'I would like to seek the cooperation of media associations in Sabah to share information with us so that we can assist our fellow media practitioners in need,' she said. Meanwhile, Mariah expressed hope that the SJA could serve as a key platform for coordinating aid to media practitioners in need. 'We will suggest the names of those eligible to receive donations and assist in providing the necessary information,' she said. The Tabung Kasih@Hawana initiative reflects the spirit of Malaysia Madani by upholding values of compassion and care, particularly for media practitioners who have long contributed to society but are now facing life or health challenges. The fund was established as a Communications Ministry initiative and implemented through Bernama to support serving and retired journalists and other media practitioners who are facing hardships or financial difficulties. To date, a total of 463 media practitioners nationwide have benefited from the initiative. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? WHO Moves 10 Trucks Of Medical Aid To Gaza Amid Soaring Health Needs
GENEVA, July 30 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- The World Health Organisation (WHO) has moved 10 trucks loaded with essential medical supplies in Gaza, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported, citing the organisation's chief. 'WHO has moved 10 trucks from Al-Arish in Egypt to the Kerem Shalom crossing for Gaza, carrying essential medicines, laboratory and water testing supplies,' Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus posted on X. He said more aid is on the way, noting that 'two additional trucks with medical supplies, along with 12 pallets of blood products, are expected tomorrow.' bootstrap slideshow All WHO aid will be transferred into Gaza, together with '3 trucks with medical supplies from health partners,' Tedros noted. 'The health needs in Gaza are immense,' he said, underlining that 'a continuous flow of medical supplies is critical.' Tedros once again called for unimpeded humanitarian access and a halt to hostilities: 'We continue to call for sustained, safe, and unhindered access for medical aid into and across Gaza and for a ceasefire.' Israel has maintained a blockade on Gaza for 18 years, and since March 2, it has sealed all border crossings, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid and worsening already dire conditions in the enclave. The Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, killing over 60,000 Palestinians. The relentless bombardment has devastated the enclave and led to food shortages. A total of 154 people, including 89 children, have died of starvation and malnutrition in Gaza since October 2023. On Monday, Israeli rights groups B'Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights-Israel accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, citing the systematic destruction of Palestinian society and the deliberate dismantling of the territory's healthcare system.

Manulife Malaysia Champions New Era Of Health Protection
KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- Manulife Malaysia (Manulife) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the health and well-being of Malaysians through a comprehensive, people-first approach to health insurance. Manulife chief marketing officer Marilyn Wang said this commitment is reflected in its expanding range of health solutions, including Manulife Health Saver Enrich (MHSE) and Beyond Critical Cover (BCC), both designed to provide support at every stage of care. 'These products aim not only to ease the financial burden of serious illnesses but also to promote healthier lifestyles for long-term well-being,' she said during a speech at an exclusive session with Manulife Malaysia and Cancer Research Malaysia (CRMY) on Cancer, Prevention & Protection here, today. She said that, according to The Asia Care Survey 2024 conducted by Manulife, about 45 per cent of Malaysians worry about cancer as a major future health risk. Marilyn said MHSE offers practical benefits such as coverage for essential vaccinations, mental wellness, and generous post-hospitalisation recovery support for up to 365 days. 'MHSE also provides post-cancer follow-up care for up to five years after remission, helping monitor for recurrence and manage ongoing needs.
