Housefull 5: How much does Akshay Kumar's comedy drama need to collect in India to be a 'hit'?

Time of India3 days ago

Akshay Kumar is gearing up for the release of Housefull 5, one of the biggest films of the month, which is set to hit the screens on June 6. The comedy drama has created a buzz with its funny trailer and foot-tapping songs. The film has been shot on a budget of around Rs 200 crore-Rs 225 crore, which makes it a relatively safe venture for the makers. It, however, still needs to cross a significant milestone at the box office to emerge as a 'hit'.
Housefull 5 needs to collect around Rs 220 crore on to be a 'hit'
Akshay Kumar, who suffered a setback when Kesari 2 underperformed at the box office, is back in the limelight because of his latest film Housefull 5. The fifth and latest installment of the popular franchise has the potential to help him bounce back after commercially underwhelming outings. According to Rohit Jaiswal, a trade analyst, Housefull 5 needs to earn around Rs 220 crore (nett) in India in its full run to emerge as a 'hit'.
'If you take a closer look at this film , then you will realise that–barring Akshay– it does not have a big star. The budget is a controlled one. Given this, it needs to do between Rs 220 to Rs 250 to be declared as a 'hit'. The verdict is determined by the theatrical value of the rights(around Rs 90 crore in this case) and not the budget,' he told Indiatimes
Housefull 4, which released in 2019, earned Rs 210 crore in India in its lifetime despite mixed reviews. This suggests that the new film too has the potential to fare along similar lines even if the reviews aren't favourable. However, the dull response to Akshay Kumar's previous films suggests that the task may not be as easy as expected. The comedy Khel Khel Mein, for instance, earned just Rs 40 crore in India. Similarly, Kesari 2 made just Rs 92 crore in the full run, failing to do justice to its budget of Rs 150 crore.

Jamie Lever recalls getting cruel comments about her skin tone, being called ‘chudail': People told me to become fair

Johnny Lever's daughter Jamie Lever, who is an actor and comedian, recently opened up about growing up with insecurities about her body, as she was an obese child. In an interview with Hauterrfly, Jamie also revealed receiving comments about her skin tone and being called a witch. (Also Read: Jamie Lever recalls being traumatised as a 10-year-old by inappropriate men: 'Creep masturbated, conductor touched') Jamie talked about receiving criticism for her skin tone and said, "I get so many comments. Kaali hai (she's dark), chudail lagti hai (she looks like a witch), chudail jaise hasti hai (she laughs like a witch), you are ugly, you won't get work in the industry, tu marr kyu nahi jaati (why don't you just die), you are not getting work because of the way you look... Aisi shakal waali ladkiyon ko film nahi milti (girls who look like this don't get films). I have received such messages all my life. Colourism is such a huge issue here. Growing up, people would ask me to apply ubtans, turmeric masks, all of this to 'become fair'... Colourism is a major problem in our country." Jamie recalled that growing up, she had many insecurities about her body as she was a plump and obese child. She added, "There was a phase when I used to cover up my body with long kurtas. Even my family asked me to cover my posterior because I have a bigger hip. I have a pear-shaped body, so what do I do about it? I was told to do something about my body, so I didn't like myself. My body was an embarrassment for me, and it is only much later in life that I learnt how to own my body and my curves." She further recalled how her mother encouraged her to lose weight, as women in the industry are expected to look a certain way. After that, she started working on her body and posting her workout videos on social media to encourage other girls like her. Jamie started her career as a comedian on the show Comedy Circus Ke Mahabali on Sony Entertainment Television in 2013. In 2015, she made her Bollywood debut with Kapil Sharma's film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon. She then featured in several movies like Housefull 4, Bhoot Police, Yaatris, and Crakk among others. She was last seen in the Telugu film Aa Okkati Adakku. Apart from this, Jamie has also gained popularity for her mimicry videos on social media.

Meet actress who began with Bigg Boss, worked with Prabhas, testified in Rs 215 crore extortion case and is now a dance diva

So far, Bigg Boss has witnessed many personalities trying to build their career in Bollywood. While many find easy success, others struggle until they achieve a major breakthrough. Let's talk about one such actress, who was born and raised in Toronto but moved to India, hoping to pursue a career in acting. She was one of the contestants of Bigg Boss, shared screen space with superstars like Prabhas and Ajay Devgn, and survived on an egg during her struggle days. She is none other than Nora Fatehi. Born and raised in Canada, Nora Fatehi landed her acting debut with the Hindi movie Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans. She then ventured into the South film industry and starred in several Telugu and Malayalam projects. Meanwhile, the 33-year-old also made a special appearance in Vikram Bhatt's directorial, Mr X, led by Emraan Hashmi. Owing to the Manohari song from Baahubali: The Beginning, wherein she showed off her dancing skills, Nora gained recognition in the industry. In 2016, she went on to participate in the dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 9. Furthermore, Nora left her fans impressed with her dance numbers, Kamariya, O Saki O Saki, and Dilbar. Taking up new opportunities, the Toronto-born actress signed the dotted lines of the dance film Street Dancer 3D. In addition to this, Nora played the role of a spy in Ajay Devgn starrer Bhuj: The Pride Of India. A few of her recent tracks are Manike, Jehda Nasha, Payal, and Sultana, among others. Recalling her struggling days, Nora revealed that she had only Rs 5000 when she landed in Mumbai. "I lived with nine psychopaths in a three BHK apartment where I shared a room with two other girls. During my stay there, I used to think, 'What have I got myself into?' I am still traumatized," shared the actress. Highlighting how agencies would pay a meagre amount, she opened up about surviving on an egg and a bread. Reportedly, the dance sensation turned witness in the Rs 215 crore extortion case involving conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar. Nora Fatehi claimed that he had promised her a big house and a lavish lifestyle if she agreed to be his girlfriend. The case is still under investigation.
