James Morrison makes courageous return to stage over a year after wife's death
The singer-songwriter was left 'devastated' when he found his former partner, Gill Catchpole, dead at their home in Gloucestershire at the age of 45.
An inquest later concluded that she took her own life by hanging, having left a series of handwritten notes behind for her loved ones.
Morrison and Catchpole had been together since 2006 and have two daughters, Ada Rose, six, and Elsie, 16. The couple split a year before she died.
The Rugby-born musician, known for hits including Broken Strings and I Won't Let You Go, has been absent from the public eye since the news broke, but made a courageous comeback this week with a gig.
Taking to Instagram this evening, Morrison, 40, shared a series of photos of himself playing at In It Together Festival, which took place in Wales. https://www.instagram.com/p/DKH9c32M5SJ/?img_index=1
He wore a smile on his face as he sang and played guitar, the crowd going wild and holding up signs for him.
His caption read: 'It was an absolute pleasure to perform at @inittogetherfestival last night. Thank you to the wonderful crowd who welcomed me back.'
Promising that he's now here to stay, the Wonderful World hitmaker added: 'There is more excitement incoming… turn your notifications ON, sign up to my mailing list, and get ready…'
In the comments, fans were keen to send him warm wishes, with @nathanhead11 writing: 'This is the best thing I've seen/read on social media all year. Love you lad! And the world needs you rocking 💙🎉👊🏻'
@elenballet added: 'Can't wait to see you on tour again 🤩'
'This is amazing news. I've thought about you and your precious family often ❤️', wrote @jo_anna_r_.
'We've missed you!!! 💕💕💕', echoed @jujuqu.
Morrison cancelled all work commitments in the wake of his former partner's death as he grieved and focused on looking after their children.
He was seemingly gearing up to continue releasing music throughout last year, having posted on social media just days before: 'New year, new adventure…,' alongside a picture of himself sitting in a studio.
Morrison, who met Catchpole before his success, when she moved into his mother's house as a lodger, with her then-boyfriend, previously dedicated one of his records to her.
In 2019, he revealed his album You're Stronger Than You Know was inspired by his then-wife after their youngest daughter was born 13 weeks premature.
'The album title is for Gill, as she's been through so much as a woman and a mum, knowing we could lose the baby at any point,' he said at the time.
'We've been through everything together. She's been there from the start, when I had nothing, when I was just playing gigs and trying to write songs and not getting anywhere,' he added to OK! Magazine. More Trending
'She's a realist and thought I was chasing a pointless career, but she supported me.
'Without her, I don't think I'd be here. I don't think I'd be the person I am. I don't think I'd be as grounded if I hadn't met her when I was young.'
He also previously described her as his 'hero', with Catchpole's death marking another devastating loss in recent times.
In 2010, Morrison's father, Paul, died, while his brother, Alexis, and nephew, Callum, also died less than a year apart.

Ibiza final boss questions 'What just happened' after Bonnie Blue bombshell meet up
Ibiza Final Boss Jack Kay has shared a cryptic post with fans just days after his surprise meet up with controversial adult star Bonnie Blue. Ibiza Final Boss Jack Kay has reflected on his rollercoaster ride to fame, just days after his first awkward meeting with controversial adult star Bonnie Blue. The 26-year-old, who became an internet sensation overnight for his Lego style haircut, appeared bewildered as he took to Instagram today to ask his fans: "What just happened?" The Geordie star has now signed up for management, released his own dance track, partied with celebs and flown to Ibiza in a private jet with his pals in the space of just a few days. It's hard to believe that just a couple of weeks ago, he was just an ordinary young guy looking forward to a holiday on the Spanish party island with his friends, the Mirror reports. For anyone who has been living under a rock, Jack skyrocketed to fame earlier this month after images of him partying the night away in Ibiza went viral. He's been lapping up his new found fame and using every opportunity he can to make it last. Sharing a random snap of a perfectly trimmed tree in a hilarious nod to his incredible bowl cut, Jack mused on Instagram: "Two weeks ago, I went on a lads' holiday and someone took a video of me on the Dance Floor. Was it a dream? What just happened?" It comes just days after Jack met up with controversial adult star Bonnie Blue on the party island, in what appeared to be a very awkward interaction. The cringeworthy clip shows Jack with his arm around Bonnie while he is facing his head away from her. They can also be seen making awkward conversation while standing fairly far apart. In a since-deleted video, Bonnie revealed: "It was my shortest video yet. I was shocked how nervous he was." Jack's newfound fanbase had previously issued caution over meeting with Bonnie after she left a seemingly suggestive comment on one of his Instagram posts. Jack uploaded a post of him bopping along in a car with his mates as he captioned it: "The final boss can't be slayed… your misses on the other hand? Her levels been completed." Former OnlyFans star Bonnie, who is known for using ragebait as a marketing strategy, seized the opportunity and commented a suggestive eyes emoji beneath the video. Bonnie has become famous for taking part in extreme sex stuns, which have previously included sleeping with 1,057 men in the space of just 12 hours. However, in recent months, she has found herself permanently banned from OnlyFans after she announced her plans to hold a human "petting zoo challenge". This stunt would have seen Bonnie locked in a glass cage, inviting strangers to come and do "whatever they wanted" to her. In Channel 4's show '1,000 Men And Me: The Bonnie Blue Story' - which led to hundreds of Ofcom complaints - Bonnie bragged: "I am going to be completely helpless, tied down, gagged, choked". OnlyFans had concerns about this stunt, which it claims was in violation of its Acceptable Use Policy and Terms of Service, and so issued the permanent ban.

Diogo Jota's childhood sweetheart wife, three young kids and tragic final promise
Diogo Jota made a heartbreaking promise of 'forever' to his wife just days before the fatal car crash that claimed the life of the Liverpool football pro and his brother, leaving behind three young children Liverpool star Diogo Jota was newly married to his childhood sweetheart when tragedy struck in a horrific car crash earlier this summer. The talented footballer and his brother Andre tragically died in a car accident near the city of Zamora in Spain on July 3, and the football world has been in mourning ever since. Diogo married his Rute Cardoso, 28, in a lavish ceremony on June 22, just days before his death. Sweet snaps show the loved-up couple with their three young children, blissfully unaware of the tragedy that lay before them. Now, his wife and children will be present at Liverpool's Premier League opener this evening where the team will play against Bournemouth. It's thought the club will pay tribute to their late player, with them retiring the number 20 shirt in his memory. READ MORE: Liverpool vs Bournemouth prediction, odds and betting offer Childhood sweethearts Diogo Jota and Rute Cardoso first met in their teenage years in Porto, Portugal, having attended the same school. Friends and family watched as their relationship blossomed alongside Diogo's own rise through the footballing ranks. From local youth clubs to making his mark in the Premier League, Rute was always by his side, a constant support during the pressures of professional sport. Together, they built a family, welcoming three children over the years. Son Dinis was born in 2021, while Duarte was born in 2023. Their daughter arrived in November 2024. Those close to the family described Diogo as a devoted father who cherished every moment with his children, sometimes sharing snaps with his followers online. Dream wedding After years together, the couple finally tied the knot on June 22, 2025, in an intimate ceremony in Porto. The wedding was attended by friends, family, and teammates who gathered to witness the union. The couple shared glimpses of the special day on social media, with Diogo captioning a post, "A day we will never forget," and Rute responding, "My dream came true." The footballer replied, "But I'm the lucky one". The wedding day itself was a picture of happiness, from their first dance to moments of quiet intimacy shared between the couple. It seemed to mark the beginning of the next chapter in their lives, but sadly 11 days later news broke of Diogo's fatal crash. Stunning pictures shared via Instagram show the couple beaming from ear to ear in front of a church altar, with Rute looking breathtaking in an ivory dress and flowing veil. In one photo, they are accompanied by their three young children. Another snap shows the couple emerging from the church amid a flurry of confetti, embarking on what should have been the first exciting steps of a long and happy life together. Just 11 days after their wedding, Diogo and his brother André Silva were killed in a catastrophic car crash on Spain's A‑52 highway. Reports indicate that their Lamborghini suffered a tyre blowout, veered off the road, and caught fire, leaving no chance for escape. Heartbreakingly, Diogo's final social media post was the couple's wedding video that was posted less than 24 hours before the accident. Special vow to three children Diogo is survived by two sons and a daughter who was born in December 2024. Just a month before his daughter arrived, the footballer opened up about mental health and family life in a video on his club's YouTube channel. Sitting down with Lee Richardson, the club's performance psychologist, Diogo highlighted how football, being a team sport, can sometimes allow players to mask their feelings. "As a team sport, you can sometimes hide or benefit from what the team is doing or not. And in those individual sports, like boxing, Olympians, [they're by] themselves. So when they are not good, you can clearly see something is wrong," he shared. The doting father went on to discuss his children, explaining that even after being on the pitch all day, he had to be "on it" when he came home to his family. He shared: "When I go home after playing, I still have a family. I have two kids, three almost, and the dogs, and the stress, it doesn't stop. In a poignant vow to his family, he said: "You want to be the best father you can be". The star added: "[You] try to lead by example, give him good feedback, even though sometimes you want to get a bit more rest in the afternoon, and they are all happy because you're finally at home and they want to play. I had this yesterday after the game. I wanted to get a bit of rest. One of my kids wanted to play some football and you need to be on it." Wife's statement The brothers had been heading to the Spanish port of Santander so Jota could return to Liverpool for pre-season training. Their funeral took place in their hometown of Gondomar, near Porto. Rute made her first statement following his death on the one month anniversary of their wedding, posting three pictures from their big day, including a close up of the pair holding hands. She captioned the post: "1 month of our 'until death do us part'."
