James Morrison performs for the first time since the tragic death of his ex-partner as he prepares to tour again

performed for the first time since tragic death of his ex-partner as he returned to the stage for In It Together Festival last week. The singer, 40, was left devastated when Gill Catchpole, with whom he shares two children, was found dead in January 2024 after suffering with mental health issues. Though the pair had separated in 2023, they were still living together at their home in Gloucestershire at the time. As he prepares to tour again in September, James said it was a 'joy' to sing at the music festival in Wales. In an update shared to Instagram on Monday, the musician uploaded a photo of himself on stage. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. He wrote: 'What a joy it was to perform at In It Together Festival a few weeks ago. I can't wait for the tour in September.' An inquest in June 2024 said James' found his former partner hanging at her home after finding a note on the front door which read: 'Don't come in – call police.' Gill had also written farewell notes to her two children and her ex-partner before taking her own life. The 45-year-old mother had suffered from mental health issues for several years and had previously talked about taking her own life, Gloucester Coroner's Court was told. James was not present at the inquest, which was attended by Gill's parents and sister and a number of friends who wept at the back of the court as the evidence into her death was read out by the coroner. The court was told that a friend had called round to her home in the village of Whitminster, in Gloucestershire, on January 5 to collect her for work. The friend went next door to contact James – who split from his partner the year before but lived in the same house – to alert him. Coroner Roland Wooderson said that Ms Catchpole's GP had been treating her for depression and anxiety since 2012. James and Gill became engaged in 2006 and wore rings but they never married. They first met when he was 17 and she moved into his mother's home as a lodger with her boyfriend. She became a muse for James, who is famed for his love songs. James described her as his 'hero' and their romance as a 'little fairytale', with the title of album You're Stronger Than You Know inspired by her strength after the premature birth of their daughter Ada. He said: 'When she moved in, I started singing all the songs off that album to her. I was playing all of that stuff on the acoustic guitar. 'I'm not like: 'I love romance.' But I do find certain things romantic and the fact that we met each other the way we did. It's like a little fairytale or something'. Her passing was yet another tragedy for James, who until his greatest hits album in 2022 had disappeared from the music industry after losing his alcoholic father Paul in 2010 and his elder brother Alexis and nephew Callum within three years.

Hair Syrup owner 'shouted at for 20 minutes' at festival

Lucie Macleod, from Newport, Pembrokeshire, is the owner of Hair Syrup and went to the In It Together festival at Old Park Farm, Margam to give out samples of her products. However, after arriving at the festival, a group of people sat outside the tent that Lucie and her best friend, Lucy, were staying in, causing a "massive invasion of privacy". Lucie posted on Tik Tok: 'We've just had a really weird experience this morning, so we were obviously supposed to be at In It Together Festival until tomorrow. "But we basically had a big group of people sit outside our tent for about 20 minutes, shouting, looking through the windows, being like 'come and speak to us, we want to try your hair oil, we've seen you on TikTok. We found out where you were staying. "That's obviously not cool, we love meeting people of course but you cannot turn up where we're staying, it's like really a massive invasion of privacy coming to our tent. It's really not cool. "So, we're not going to stay here again tonight. So, we're not going to be here tomorrow. We just don't feel comfortable, like we've got all our stuff in here, this is where we sleep and it's just not really the vibe and there's no other places we can move to. So, yeah we're actually going to leave this evening." Following the incident, Lucie and Lucy, otherwise known as the 'The Two Luc's' spent their day without wearing any merchandise or branded t-shirts. This came after the pair gave out thousands of free samples and had to deal with a four-hour long queue. Lucie added in a separate post: "We love meeting you guys, but pretty please don't turn up outside where we are staying for 20 minutes shouting at us." The Newport native appeared on Dragons Den in January 2025 where she appealed for a £190,000 investment from the panel to help her in her quest for 'mass global expansion', in return for a three per cent share in her business which she runs out of Fishguard and Goodwick. Lucie started her business during the Covid lockdown after looking for something that would keep her hair in good condition for a long time, having found a number of products only had the desired effect for a short period of time.

James Morrison makes courageous return to stage over a year after wife's death

James Morrison has returned to the spotlight for the first time since his wife's death in January 2024. The singer-songwriter was left 'devastated' when he found his former partner, Gill Catchpole, dead at their home in Gloucestershire at the age of 45. An inquest later concluded that she took her own life by hanging, having left a series of handwritten notes behind for her loved ones. Morrison and Catchpole had been together since 2006 and have two daughters, Ada Rose, six, and Elsie, 16. The couple split a year before she died. The Rugby-born musician, known for hits including Broken Strings and I Won't Let You Go, has been absent from the public eye since the news broke, but made a courageous comeback this week with a gig. Taking to Instagram this evening, Morrison, 40, shared a series of photos of himself playing at In It Together Festival, which took place in Wales. He wore a smile on his face as he sang and played guitar, the crowd going wild and holding up signs for him. His caption read: 'It was an absolute pleasure to perform at @inittogetherfestival last night. Thank you to the wonderful crowd who welcomed me back.' Promising that he's now here to stay, the Wonderful World hitmaker added: 'There is more excitement incoming… turn your notifications ON, sign up to my mailing list, and get ready…' In the comments, fans were keen to send him warm wishes, with @nathanhead11 writing: 'This is the best thing I've seen/read on social media all year. Love you lad! And the world needs you rocking 💙🎉👊🏻' @elenballet added: 'Can't wait to see you on tour again 🤩' 'This is amazing news. I've thought about you and your precious family often ❤️', wrote @jo_anna_r_. 'We've missed you!!! 💕💕💕', echoed @jujuqu. Morrison cancelled all work commitments in the wake of his former partner's death as he grieved and focused on looking after their children. He was seemingly gearing up to continue releasing music throughout last year, having posted on social media just days before: 'New year, new adventure…,' alongside a picture of himself sitting in a studio. Morrison, who met Catchpole before his success, when she moved into his mother's house as a lodger, with her then-boyfriend, previously dedicated one of his records to her. In 2019, he revealed his album You're Stronger Than You Know was inspired by his then-wife after their youngest daughter was born 13 weeks premature. 'The album title is for Gill, as she's been through so much as a woman and a mum, knowing we could lose the baby at any point,' he said at the time. 'We've been through everything together. She's been there from the start, when I had nothing, when I was just playing gigs and trying to write songs and not getting anywhere,' he added to OK! Magazine. More Trending 'She's a realist and thought I was chasing a pointless career, but she supported me. 'Without her, I don't think I'd be here. I don't think I'd be the person I am. I don't think I'd be as grounded if I hadn't met her when I was young.' He also previously described her as his 'hero', with Catchpole's death marking another devastating loss in recent times. In 2010, Morrison's father, Paul, died, while his brother, Alexis, and nephew, Callum, also died less than a year apart.
