Outlander fans left puzzled as they spot multiple 'inconsistencies' ahead of final season
Outlanders fans flocked to Reddit to voice their concerns about one particular storyline surrounding Murtagh Fraser.
Outlander's highly anticipated eighth and final season is looming with the show expected to air in late 2025 or early 2026. However, while the excitement is building for the grand finale, some die-hard fans are still hung up on previous plot "inconsistencies" surrounding their favourite characters which have left them puzzled.
Fans rushed to the social media site Reddit to voice their concerns with the storyline surrounding Jocasta Cameron and Murtagh Fraser's romantic reunion. In the Starz show, the pair develop a romantic relationship despite the fact that Murtagh is supposed to be madly in love with Ellen, Jocasta's sister.
This relationship is hugely different from what happens in the original Outlander books, written by Diana Gabaldon. In the novels, Murtagh actually dies at Culloden but in the series, he lives and his story continues, which is when his relationship with Jocasta develops.
Murtagh eventually dies at the Battle of Alamance in the fifth season, the Irish Star reports.
One fan took to Reddit to remark: "I would give myself a headache if I stopped to consider all of the inconsistencies they never thought about. Bless you for having the stomach for it.
"That said, the the whole Jocasta/Murtagh 'reunion' when he brought Brianna to River Run made no sense.
"Murtagh was a Fraser and wouldn't have been in the habit of hanging out at Leoch, but he attended the Gathering where he tried to court Ellen. Jocasta was already married off and gone by then. They never would have met before."
A second echoed: "Maybe Murtagh visited Miss Fitzgibbons."
A third replied: "Not impossible, but it wouldn't explain Jocasta acting like he's her long lost love."
A fourth agreed: "Yes, her remembering his hands sounded as if they grew up together."

A fifth chimed in: "Even once Jocasta was married I suppose she still could have gone to the Gathering or otherwise visited her sister Ellen?
"Jamie identifies him as a Fraser by surname but his aunt by marriage Mrs. Fitzgibbons is at Leoch.
"When we met him he's traveling/living with the MacKenzies intermittently.
"While obviously that's for Jamie's benefit, none of the other men behave as though he's an outsider or a guest at Leoch's table, to the point that Claire has to be told he's not just another Leoch MacKenzie.
"I always assumed he had some marginal connection to the Leoch MacKenzies like a grandparent."
In other news, several Outlander stars have joined forces for a new venture just last month.

Small Scottish distillery wins international award for wood-fired drink
A small Lowlands distillery has won gold for its wood-fired unaged spirit, scoring 96 points for its depth, clarity and character. A small Scottish distillery tucked away in the Lowlands has struck gold on the international stage, quite literally. Moffat Distillery, based in Dumfries and Galloway, is celebrating a major milestone after its Moffat Moonshine scooped a prestigious gold medal at the 2025 International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC). The award comes just as the distillery prepares for its highly anticipated first whisky release. The unaged spirit, described by the distillery as a 'wood-fired, unaged spirit made entirely in Dumfries & Galloway ', earned an impressive 96 points, with judges praising its 'depth, clarity and character.' That's a remarkable result for what is essentially the debut offering from the fledgling distillery. 'This is a huge moment for our small team,' said founder Nick Bullard. 'Moffat Moonshine is where our journey begins, raw, honest and full of character. "We're proud it's been recognised on a global stage and we hope it puts our small but perfectly-formed corner of Scotland on the spirits map.' Moffat Distillery is no ordinary producer. It claims to be the first and only distillery in Scotland to heat its stills using wood fires, a method not seen in over 200 years. With an output of just 6,000 litres per year, the distillery prides itself on sustainable, small-scale production. Sharing their excitement in a social media post, the team wrote: 'We've just won a Gold medal! Our Moffat Moonshine has been recognised by the IWSC, a huge honour for our wee distillery. 'This is a win not just for us, but for everyone who's supported us along the way, from those who've shared a dram, to our brilliant partners at Crisp Malt, WHC Lab, and Camlachie Cooperage.' The award-winning Moffat Moonshine has been bottled at two strengths, 48.5% and a fiery cask strength of 61.25% ABV. Distilled in the open air, the team say each run carries its own unique character, with the spirit matured in ex-Oloroso Sherry casks for just seven months. 'Not wanting to drown our own spirit's character in sherry, we decided to bottle the fiery potion when we felt it was ready,' the distillery says on its website. While Moffat Moonshine has stolen the spotlight for now, the distillery is also no stranger to blended malts. In 2018, it released The Moffat Blended Malt Scotch, and more blends from its Local Dram series are on the way. These unique creations are developed in close collaboration with local people, drawing on regional culture, history, geography and language to produce a dram that truly reflects the character of its community. 'We create unique recipes,' the distillery explains. 'We source our spirit directly from producers, avoiding the secondary market, since consistency and authenticity of supply are vital to the brand.' All bottling is currently done under contract, and each blend is dressed in bespoke packaging designed by a local artist, echoing the spirit of the community behind it.

Stranger Things series five hopes as fans share theory for two characters
Netflix Stranger Things season five has stirred up excitement among fans as they took to Reddit to share their hopes for two key characters' blossoming romance. Stranger Things series five will debut in three volumes later this year. Four episodes on November 26, three episodes at Christmas, and the finale episode on New Year's Eve. The fifth and final season kicks off in the fall of 1987. 'Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna,' the official Netflix synopsis reads. Ahead of the new series, fans took to discussion platform Reddit to share their hopes that Max and Lucas get their well-deserved happy ending. "Please just give these two a happy ending…," one fan wrote alongside a slideshow of photos of the pair. Fans were quick to weigh in with their opinions on the thread, echoing their love for the 'shipment' of the couple. One fan wrote: "The most non serious couple and then BOOM, season 4, the way how Lucas stuck by her, the way she still relied on him even after distancing herself from him, him being her safe place … such maturity and growth as a couple. I'm all for it." "Yes it all hit surprisingly hard. It really was sweet and beautiful," someone else echoed. One fan responded, "I agree I like the couple it's my second favorite aside from mike and eleven." Someone else quipped: "Yes please. Of all the couples in Stranger Things I think this is the one I feel the strongest about, as it stands now." Another fan added: "I really want Max and Lucas to get their movie date and for Joyce and Hopper to get their dinner date at Enzo's." However, not all viewers were hopeful of a happily ever after for Max and Lucas. "Duffer brothers laughing right now," pointed out one fan, which was upvoted over 500 times. Adding to the above sentiment, one fan said: "Yeah... I don't think you've been paying attention if you think this has a happy ending..." One fan shared a more in-depth theory why Max and Lucas could walk away unscathed. They explained: "Season Finale, ending montage sequence: life getting back to normal, Vecna defeated, portal gates sealed for good. Different shots of the various characters getting their lives back together, leading to: A sunny day. The camera closely tracks a slow-rolling skateboard in a park, a red-sneakered pair of feet planted on top. Another pair of feet keep pace alongside." They continued: "Camera cuts to a wider shot; we see Max atop the skateboard, wobbling slightly as she regains her strength and balance, being steadied by Lucas walking alongside her as he helps her re-learn her past ability. Another wobble, Lucas grabs her and keeps her upright. The trust between them is unquestionable." "The two exchange glances, their wide smiles turning to laughter. We can tell that these two are gonna be alright. Please, Duffers. Please!," they concluded. One fan responded, "This really hit me. I hope something like this happens," however someone was less convinced, adding "referring back to this comment when the trauma inevitably happens."

Condom nearly 200 years old goes on display in Amsterdam museum
Bosses at the Rijksmuseum say it 'depicts both the playful and the serious side of sexual health', merging art with the city's infamous Red Light District. A museum in Amsterdam has began displaying a nearly 200-year-old condom as part of a new exhibition. Bosses at the Netherlands' national museum say the object merges art with the city's infamous Red Light District. The Rijksmuseum said in a statement the playful prophylactic, believed to be made around 1830 from a sheep's appendix, 'depicts both the playful and the serious side of sexual health'. It is part of an exhibition called Safe Sex? about 19th century sex work that opened on Tuesday. The condom, possibly a souvenir from a brothel, is decorated with an erotic image of a nun and three clergymen. The phrase 'This is my choice' is written along the sheath in French. According to the museum, this is a reference to the Pierre-Auguste Renoir painting The Judgment of Paris, which depicts the Trojan prince Paris judging a beauty contest between three goddesses. The condom is on display until the end of November. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today.
