Egypt Reaffirms Support for Libyan Sovereignty and Political Consensus
Egypt reiterated its steadfast support for Libya's sovereignty, unity, and political stability, emphasizing the need for a Libyan-led political solution free from external interference.
Ambassador Tarek Dahroug, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director of the Libya Department, outlined Egypt's vision in official remarks reaffirming Cairo's long-held position on Libya.
Ambassador Dahroug stressed that Egypt encourages inclusive dialogue among all Libyan parties and calls for overcoming divisions in order to achieve national consensus. He highlighted the importance of unifying Libya's executive authority based on legitimate and consensual foundations that reflect the will of the Libyan people. This, he said, would strengthen the efforts of the United Nations toward a political settlement.
He further asserted that Egypt views the political process as the sole path toward resolving the Libyan crisis, in accordance with the Berlin Conference outcomes, relevant UN Security Council resolutions, the Skhirat Agreement, and the principle of 'Libya for Libyans.' Egypt also welcomes serious efforts toward the unification of Libya's national institutions, particularly the military and economic bodies, as key to restoring lasting stability.
Ambassador Dahroug underlined that Libya's security is inseparable from Egypt's national security and regional stability. He firmly rejected any attempts by foreign powers or armed groups to exploit Libyan territory as a platform for threatening neighboring countries.
Egypt, he affirmed, supports all legitimate Libyan institutions that emerge from genuine intra-Libyan consensus and engages with all Libyan factions to safeguard the unity of the country. He noted that Egypt is committed to remaining an active developmental partner for both eastern and western Libya, with Egyptian companies and professionals working responsibly across both regions in projects that serve the broader interests of the Libyan people.
In line with directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to prioritize the well-being of Egyptians abroad, Ambassador Dahroug confirmed that the Foreign Minister is actively monitoring efforts to reopen Egypt's consulate in Tripoli, with plans to resume consular operations before the end of the year.
