The sports community is eagerly awaiting the final match between 2024-25 Champions League champions Paris Saint-Germain and Europa League champions Tottenham Hotspur.
Prior to this crucial encounter, Tottenham received reports that 26-year-old Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was unlikely to feature in the final between the two teams. The Italian played a major role in helping the team reach the Champions League final last season, making outstanding saves against Arsenal, Aston Villa, and other matches.
What is the reason for this absence of the Italian?
The player faces numerous rumors about his future with Paris Saint-Germain, given that he only has one year left on his contract with the club. There are conflicting reports about his desire to leave and not renew his contract, while his name is receiving considerable attention from English clubs, most notably Manchester United.
Manchester United have emerged as serious contenders for Gianluigi Donnarumma's signature, with Andre Onana struggling to cement his place since joining the club. The Red Devils' interest comes after Tottenham's Europa League triumph over them in May.
Meanwhile, PSG appear to have proactively addressed their goalkeeping situation by securing Lille's rising star Lucas Chevalier in a €40 million deal. The 23-year-old shot-stopper has committed his future to the Parisian club until 2029 and could make his debut against Spurs. This move potentially paves the way for Donnarumma's departure from the French champions.

Crystal Palace blast CAS ruling as Europa League demotion confirmed
Crystal Palace have responded strongly after their appeal to be reinstated to the Europa League was unsuccessful on Monday. UEFA demoted the Eagles to the Conference League on 11 July after it was determined that John Textor had control or influence at both Palace and French club Lyon. Nottingham Forest have taken the FA Cup winner's place in the Europa League. The Court for Arbitration in Sport (CAS) dismissed Palace's appeal this week, ruling that Textor had 'decisive influence' over both the south London outfit and Lyon at the time of UEFA's assessment. Crystal Palace blast CAS ruling as Europa League demotion confirmed Palace say 'sporting merit is rendered meaningless' by the verdict and claim that it 'appears that certain clubs, organisations and individuals have a unique privilege and power'. The statement continues 'Multi-club structures hide behind the charade of a 'blind trust' while clubs such as ours, who have no connection to another club whatsoever, are prevented from playing in the same competition. 'To compound the injustice, clubs that appear to have huge informal arrangements with each other are also allowed to participate and even possibly play against each other. 'While we respect the CAS tribunal members, the process is designed to severely restrict and, in our case, make it almost impossible to receive a fair hearing. Read – 'The denial of all disclosure requests to obtain correspondence between the relevant parties, the refusal to allow witness testimony from those involved, and the general lack of formality and respect for law mean decisions cannot be properly challenged, leading to pre-determined outcomes. 'Uefa's decision has wider implications for the governance of the sport. A combination of poorly conceived regulations and their unequal application means our brilliant fans will be deprived of the chance to watch this team compete in the Europa League for the first time in our history. 'This should be a turning point for football.' Read – See Also – Follow The Football Faithful on Social Media: | | | |

Palace claim sporting merit 'meaningless' after Europa League demotion
Premier League side Crystal Palace said on Tuesday that sporting merit had been "rendered meaningless" by UEFA's decision to demote them from the Europa League. The FA Cup winners have been forced to play in this season's Conference League after European football's governing body UEFA ruled in July that American businessman John Textor had control or influence at both Palace and French club Lyon. Palace tried to have the punishment overturned, but on Monday the Lausanne-based Court of Arbitration for Sport announced the Premier League club had lost their appeal. Nottingham Forest are set to take Palace's spot in the Europa League. Palace chairman Steve Parish had already been vocal in his criticism after the initial demotion and, with their fate sealed, the south London club again blasted the decision. "At a time when we should be celebrating our victory in the Community Shield at Wembley, the decision by UEFA and followed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport shows that sporting merit is rendered meaningless," Palace said in a statement. "When we won the FA Cup against Manchester City on that momentous day in May, our manager and players earned the right to play Europa League football. "We have been denied that opportunity. It appears that certain clubs, organisations and individuals have a unique privilege and power. "This growing and unhealthy influence has shattered the hopes and dreams of Crystal Palace supporters, and does not bode well for aspirational teams all over Europe competing to progress when rules and sanctions are unevenly applied in the most flagrant way." UEFA regulations state that where one or more clubs are found to have shared ownership, they cannot play in the same competition, and Lyon held on to the Europa League spot by virtue of their higher league position. Palace missed a March 1 UEFA deadline for team in multi-club groups to change their ownership structure. Textor has since sold his shares to New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, a takeover completed in late July. "Multi-club structures hide behind the charade of a 'blind trust' while clubs such as ours, who have no connection to another club whatsoever, are prevented from playing in the same competition," the Palace statement added. "To compound the injustice, clubs that appear to have huge informal arrangements with each other are also allowed to participate and even possibly play against each other. Palace added that the process was "designed to severely restrict and, in our case, make it almost impossible to receive a fair hearing". Palace beat Premier League champions Liverpool in the Community Shield at the weekend, winning a penalty shootout after the match finished 2-2 in 90 minutes. smg/gj

Report – Paris Saint-Germain Goalkeeper Doesn't Close Door For Inter Milan Move Amid Stalled Contract Extension Talks
PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma reportedly remains open to joining Inter Milan at the end of next season. According to La Repubblica via FCInter1908, the Italian star has found Les Parisiens' contract offer unacceptable. Gianluigi Donnarumma has entered the final year of his deal at the Parc des Princes. Therefore, time has become a factor for PSG, who are keen to tie the 26-year-old down to a new long-term contract. However, their latest proposal has fallen short of Donnarumma's expectations. Gianluigi Donnarumma Open to Joining Inter Milan from PSG BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND – APRIL 15: Gianluigi Donnarumma of Paris Saint-Germain celebrates at full-time following the team's victory and subsequent progression in the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 Quarter Final Second Leg match between Aston Villa FC and Paris Saint-Germain at Villa Park on April 15, 2025 in Birmingham, England. (Photo by) Donnarumma signed a lucrative €11.5 million net per season contract when he swapped AC Milan for PSG in 2021. Yet, the perennial Ligue 1 champions had hoped to lower his wages. As such, they've offered him a new deal worth around €8 million net per season. However, Donnarumma has no intention of reducing his salary. Instead, he may try to use Inter's interest as leverage to get better terms. Aware of Donnarumma's stance, Les Parisiens have already signed Lucas Chevalier from Lille for a reported fee of €40 million. It could be a signal for the ex-Milan star to pack his bags, with the San Siro club waiting in the wings.
