IITians develop digital platform to address Gurgaon civic issues

Gurgaon: Unhappy with broken roads and poor civic amenities in the city, a group of young IITians, who have made Gurgaon their home, developed a digital system to report civic issues like broken roads and stray cattle menace to.
Users can open the website the group has developed (raastafix.com) and upload pictures of the issue they would like to report along with location tags. The system does not require citizens to reveal their identity or details in order to report issues.
After the photos are uploaded, AI agents map and route each complaint to the department concerned. An admin dashboard for district officials provides colour-coded priority tracking (high, medium, low), helping them address issues faster.

Moreover, the Haryana govt, which is facing criticism over poor public redress system, has said the tech should be integrated with the govt's system and a provision should be made to monitor complaints from Chandigarh. The announcement was made at a meeting between the group behind the platform and Rajesh Khullar, chief principal secretary to the chief minister of Haryana in the city on Monday.
Pravin Kaushal, an IIT alumnus, said the idea behind the system is to give back to the city which has now become his home.
"Many IITians are working in Gurgaon's tech and startup ecosystem and they want to contribute to the betterment of the city," he said, adding that they want to develop transformative collaboration between govt, startups, and civic leaders.
Pointing out that RaastaFix is a citizen-driven platform, he said issues can be reported on it in 30 seconds. Each report is geo-tagged, time-stamped, and instantly shared with GMDA, MCG, NHAI, PWD, RWAs, MLAs, and councillors — ensuring faster action, he added.
Vinay Krishna Gupta, founder and CEO of Antino, the product development company which took a lead in the project, said as a Gurgaon resident, he did not know which department to approach to report issues like potholes, sewage, or garbage collection.
"RaastaFix makes it simple — I can just upload a photo, and the system automatically routes the complaint to the right authority. I don't even have to share my name or number, and I know my complaint is being tracked.
It gives people like me a voice and ensures the govt can respond faster," said Gupta.
Saurabh Mishra, a resident of Sector 50, said the multiple agencies working in Gurgaon make it confusing for the residents to find out which roads come under which agency. "A common platform for raising the civic issues will be a great help; I hope the authorities will pay attention to the reports and fix the issues raised on the platform," said Mishra.

The six-day poll, which concluded on Monday, showed 71% of respondents said they were concerned that Artificial Intelligence will be 'putting too many people out of work permanently'. Some 77% of respondents to the Reuters/Ipsos poll said that they worried the technology could be used to stir up political chaos, a sign of unease over the now-common use of AI technology to create realistic videos of imaginary events. US President Donald Trump last month posted on social media an AI-generated video of former Democratic President Barack Obama being arrested, an event that never happened. The new technology burst into the national conversation in late 2022 when OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot launched and became the fastest-growing application of all time. Big Tech heavyweights—including Facebook owner Meta Platforms Inc., Google owner Alphabet Inc. and Microsoft Inc.—soon joined the race offering their own AI products. While at present there are few signs of mass unemployment—the U.S. jobless rate was just 4.2% in July—AI is stirring concerns as it reshapes jobs, industries and day-to-day life. Americans are also leery about military applications for AI, the Reuters/Ipsos poll showed. Some 48% of respondents said the government should never use AI to determine the target of a military strike, compared with 24% who said the government should allow that sort of use of the technology. Another 28% said they were not sure. The general enthusiasm for AI shown by many people and companies has fueled further investments, such as Foxconn and SoftBank's planned data center equipment factory in Ohio. It has also upended national security policies as the United States and China vie for AI dominance. More than half of Americans, some 61%, said they were concerned about the amount of electricity needed to power the fast-growing technology. Google said earlier this month it had signed agreements with two US electric utilities to reduce its AI data center power consumption during times of surging demand on the grid, as energy-intensive AI use outpaces power supplies. The new technology has also come under criticism for applications that have let AI bots hold romantic conversations with children, generate false medical information and help people make racist arguments. Two-thirds of respondents in the Reuters/Ipsos poll said they worried that people would ditch relationships with other people in favour of AI partners. People were split on whether AI technology will improve education. Some 36% of respondents thought it would help, while 40% disagreed and the rest were not sure. The Reuters/Ipsos survey gathered responses online from 4,446 U.S. adults nationwide and had a margin of error of about 2 percentage points.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Airports Authority of India's (AAI) proposal to develop a green field Airport in Kota-Bundi, Rajasthan. The new airport will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1507 crore. The Rajasthan Government has allocated 440.06 hectares of land to AAI for the airport's development, which will accommodate A-321 type aircraft. Kota green field airport: Top things to know The project includes a Terminal Building covering 20,000 sqm, designed to handle 1,000 peak hour passengers (PHP) and an annual capacity of 2 million passengers per annum (MPPA). It will also feature a 3200m x 45m runway 11/29, an apron with 7 parking bays for A-321 aircraft, two link taxiways, an ATC-cum-technical block, a fire station, a car park, and related infrastructure. Kota, located along the Chambal River, is known as Rajasthan's industrial capital and is also famous as India's Educational Coaching Hub. Kota's significance in the educational and industrial fields makes the greenfield Airport an essential infrastructure project, designed to manage the expected increase in traffic in the area. The current Kota Airport is owned by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and features a runway (08/26) measuring 1220 m x 38 m, which is suitable for Code 'B' aircraft like the DO-228. The airport also has an apron that can accommodate two such aircraft. The terminal building covers an area of 400 sqm and can handle 50 passengers during peak times. However, the existing airport cannot be expanded for commercial operations due to limited land availability and the surrounding urban development.
