AAP govt ended 'Inspector Raj' in Delhi, BJP reintstated it: Saurabh Bharadwaj
New Delhi [India], June 19 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday said 'red-tapism is back', 'corruption is thriving' and Delhi's businesspersons are once again under the thumb of officials.
AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj has hit out at the BJP for turning the clock back on ease of business in the capital. 'From making trade licences deliberately complex to unleashing a fresh wave of 'Inspector Raj', the BJP is deliberately choking Delhi's traditional markets, already struggling in the age of e-commerce, with even plans to shift historic bazaars like Chandni Chowk out of the city.'
Criticising the BJP-led MCD for 'harassing' Delhi's businesspersons, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj said, 'At a time when countries across the world are finding new ways to ease doing business and simplifying complex licensing systems through IT and computerisation, the BJP has done the exact opposite after forming its government in MCD. They have begun squeezing businesspeople the moment they assumed power.'
Pointing to the deliberate 'complexity' of trade licence procedures, he asserted, 'It's clear that the way trade licences are being made unnecessarily complicated, there is corruption hidden behind this complexity. Any process that is deliberately made difficult directly benefits corrupt officials, who exploit businesspersons through harassment and extortion. Making the licensing process more complex is nothing but a gateway to bribery.'
Highlighting how the system has been 'regressed', Saurabh Bharadwaj emphasised, 'What used to be a simple and streamlined process is now being damaged to bring back 'Inspector Raj' in Delhi. Officials will now start visiting shops again, demanding arbitrary bribes and threatening businesspersons.'
Exposing how 'businesspersons will be extorted under the new regime', he stated, 'Shopkeepers will now be intimidated with the threat that if they don't pay up, their shops can be sealed--because the officers have been given that power. This opens the door to rampant exploitation.'
Earlier, Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Thursday said that former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair was 'surprised' at the work BJP government has achieved in the first 100 days of its tenure in the national capital.
'Former Prime Minister Tony Blair, who came to meet Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. There was a discussion about the services they provide through NGOs. We also discussed that CM Rekha Gupta completed that in 100 days... He was surprised that achieving this much work in 100 days was possible... He is amused to meet the chief minister of over 30 million people, a very significant figure when compared to the European population,' Sirsa said.

In Bihar, PM Modi To Launch New Vande Bharat, Inaugurate Rs 5,000-Cr Development Projects Today
Last Updated: PM Modi will visit Siwan, Bihar on Friday to launch a new Vande Bharat Express and unveil development projects worth over Rs 5,000 crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Bihar's Siwan on Friday for the launch of a new Vande Bharat Express train and to bring a development package worth over Rs 5,000 crore. According to an official release, the new Vande Bharat Express will be launched to run between Patliputra and Gorakhpur via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah, in a major boost to connectivity in North Bihar. Furthering the vision of 'Make in India – Make for the World', PM Modi will also flag off a state-of-the-art locomotive built at the Marhowra Plant, for export to the Republic of Guinea. This is the first export locomotive manufactured in this factory, and is equipped with high-horsepower engines, an advanced AC propulsion system, microprocessor-based control systems, ergonomic cab designs and incorporates technologies like regenerative braking, according to the release. In line with his commitment to conservation and rejuvenation of the river Ganga, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also inaugurate six Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) under the Namami Gange project worth over Rs 1800 crore, catering to the needs of people in the region. Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for water supply, sanitation and Sewage Treatment Plants worth over Rs 3,000 crore in various towns across Bihar, aiming to provide clean and safe drinking water to the citizens of these towns. In a major boost to power infrastructure in the region, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity in the state, the release stated. Standalone BESSs are being installed at 15 grid substations of the state, including Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Bettiah, and Siwan, among others. The capacity of the battery to be installed in each sub-station is between 20 to 80 MWh. It will save the distribution companies from buying electricity at expensive rates by feeding the already stored electricity back to the grid, directly benefiting the consumers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also release the first instalment to more than 53,600 beneficiaries of PMAY U in Bihar. He will also hand over keys to a few beneficiaries to mark the 'Grih Pravesh' ceremony of more than 6,600 completed houses of PMAY U, according to the release. BJP GEARING UP FOR ELECTIONS IN BIHAR PM Modi's visit to Siwan district has energised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is gearing up for crucial assembly elections in a few months and is relying heavily on the appeal of its most popular leader to boost its prospects. According to Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, the Prime Minister's latest tour was 'the second in only 20 days and the fifth this year", in an indication that the eastern province was high on the priority of the government. PM Modi's last visit to the state was on May 29-30, when he inaugurated a new 'world-class" terminal of the Patna airport, held a roadshow in the state capital and addressed a rally in Rohtas district where projects worth Rs 50,000 crore were launched. Today in Politics: Can Congress, Shashi Tharoor bury the hatchet and move on?
The gap that had started widening between Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor and the Congress now looks more like a yawning chasm after the former said there were some 'differences of opinion' with some in the Congress leadership. This comes after weeks of the Congress taking potshots at Tharoor, unhappy that he had been chosen to head one of the all-party delegations that went around the world to spread the government's message on Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, even though the party had not recommended him. The lack of any attempt at reconciliation became clear after the MP told reporters in Thiruvananthapuram that he had not been invited to campaign for the Nilambur bypoll. He also mentioned the 'misunderstandings' between the party and him and how, when he was abroad, 'they engaged in arguments without understanding what I had said'. While he was in Panama during the multi-nation tour, Tharoor had riled his party by claiming that the Army had breached the Line of Control between India and Pakistan for the first time to 'conduct a surgical strike on a terror base, a launch pad… (after) the Uri strike in September 2016' and that it was 'something we had not done before'. The Congress hit back, reminding Tharoor about surgical strikes under the UPA government and suggesting that the BJP should name him 'super spokesperson'. Before he went on the tour, the Congress had been unhappy about his public comments since Operation Sindoor, and, in one instance, said he had crossed the 'lakshman rekha (red line)'. But what options do the two sides have? Though the Congress attributed the lack of invitation to him for campaigning in Nilambur to a 'communication gap', the party may have to take a call, sooner rather than later, on whether it wants this situation to continue or if rapprochement is possible. In one of her columns last month, Neerja Chowdhury noted the pitfalls of taking action against Tharoor. 'Action against him at this juncture could queer the pitch for the party in Kerala where elections are due next year. It is the one state the Congress has been confident of winning … Tharoor, who has called for a bipartisan approach on security issues, has carved out a niche for himself in the last few years that goes beyond the Congress. He has a following amongst the intelligentsia, the professional classes, and the youth.' Letting the sense of antagonism fester also reflects poorly on the party, which seems to be caught in a Catch-22. Tharoor will also have to evaluate the choices before him. Floating a new party is way beyond difficult, and joining the BJP will likely dent his image in the liberal intelligentsia constituency. On Thursday, he categorically ruled out joining the ruling party and said, 'Let the Congress reveal their thoughts about me.' PM Modi in Bihar, Odisha Prime Minister Narendra Modi will head to Bihar for the fourth time this year. He will be in Siwan, where he will inaugurate the new Vaishali-Deoria railway line project and flag off a new train service on the route.
