Vape sales to be banned across Terengganu starting August
State Local Government, Housing and Health Committee chairman Datuk Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah said the decision, made at Wednesday's state executive councillors' meeting, was a proactive measure to curb the sale and use of vape products, which may have negative health effects on the younger generation.
"Among the agreed decisions is that the state government will maintain its existing policy of not approving a business licence for any premises selling vape products, in line with the by-laws in effect across all local authority areas in Terengganu.
"Business licence conditions will also be refined to ensure the vape sales ban can be fully enforced," he said in a statement last night.
Wan Sukairi stated that any vape business operators who continue selling after the ban takes effect will face strict action under Local Government Act 1976 (Act 171) bylaws, including fines, seizures and court action.
To demonstrate commitment and firmness, the state has also decided not to accept any form of sponsorship from vape manufacturers or distributors for any events involving the state government, he added.
"A three-month grace from May 1 to July 31, 2025 will be provided before full enforcement begins on August 1, including actions related to vape business advertisements.
"To support affected vape operators, the state, through the Entrepreneur Development Foundation (YPU), will offer participation in entrepreneurship courses as well as other business opportunities in more sustainable and safer sectors," he said. — Bernama

KOTA BHARU: Kelantan must strengthen household recycling to help Malaysia achieve the federal government's 40 per cent recycling target by 2025. The Panji DTRC collected 6,382 kg of recyclables last year, while Kubur Maras, operational since February, recorded 112 kg. Hilmi added that the state is reviewing the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act 2007 (Act 672) for possible adoption. A recent visit to Kedah studied its enforcement of the Act, but no final decision has been made. Seven states, including Kedah and Johor, have adopted Act 672, while Penang, Perak, Terengganu, Selangor, and Kelantan have yet to do so. - Bernama

Terengganu enforces vape sales ban despite appeals
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu government remains firm on fully enforcing the ban on the sale of electronic cigarettes or vape, effective since Aug 1, despite appeals for postponement. State Local Government, Housing and Health Committee chairman Datuk Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah stated that traders were given ample notice—about seven months—to clear their stock. 'We've given enough time for traders to clear their vape stock before their premises are no longer allowed to sell such products,' he said. He added that excuses from traders claiming unsold stock will no longer be accepted. Wan Sukairi spoke after launching the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang Campaign for Terengganu, officiated by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar. He emphasised that all vape-related banners, advertisements, and event sponsorships must be removed statewide.
