Urologist braves blaze, smoke to save family

Time of Indiaa day ago

Ahmedabad: As flames devoured their building, a young mother clutched her sleeping children, unsure if they would live to see another day. In the chaos following Thursday's Air India Dreamliner crash, it was not emergency services but a father's desperate dash through fire that saved his family.
Dr Pratik Chaudhary, a urologist at Civil Hospital, lives on the second floor of Atylyam 4 with his wife Himani, their one-and-a-half-year-old son, his elderly parents, and his sister and her three-year-old daughter. At the time of the crash, Himani, both children, her sister, and Chaudhary's father were at home.
"I was just scrolling through my phone while the children were asleep," said Himani. "Then, out of nowhere, there was a loud blast.
Within seconds, we were surrounded by fire and smoke. Everything turned dark. We couldn't see or breathe."
Himani made a frantic call to her husband, who was on duty at Civil Hospital, just 1.5 km away. Chaudhary dashed toward his house. By the time he reached home, the fire had intensified. Grabbing a fire extinguisher and joined by a fellow urologist friend, he fought his way into the building.
"We were holding the children tightly when he arrived," Himani said.

"He (Chaudhary) led us out through the smoke, one hand holding us, the other clearing the path. We couldn't see anything… but he got us out."
Though worried about the children's exposure to smoke, they were found safe. The little ones have since been sent to their paternal village in Visnagar to recover.
Back at the charred remains of their home, Himani stood in disbelief, salvaging what little was left — a few utensils, kitchen tools, and some bedsheets. "We've lost so much. But we're here and my children are here," she said. "We were saved mainly because of my husband's alertness and bravery. I don't know where we'll go now… but we're alive. That's everything."

11 aspirants from state among NEET-UG top 100

Mumbai/Pune: Pune's Krishang Joshi, who secured an all-India rank (AIR) of 3, and Baramati's Siddhi Badhe, with an AIR of 26, emerged as Maharashtra's top-performing male and female candidates in the NEET-UG 2025 results, announced on Saturday by the National Testing Agency. Of the 2.4 lakh aspirants from the state who appeared for the medical entrance exam—conducted for admission to MBBS, BDS, and allied health science courses—51.8% qualified, almost similar to last year's success rate. Chembur's Aarav Agrawal, with a score of 675 marks out of 720 and the 10th rank in the country, and Oorja Shah from Vile Parle, with an AIR 31, are the city toppers. There are, in all, 11 students from the state in the top 100 ranks. Many found this year's question paper to be "unusually tough" and lengthy. The highest score in this year's exam dropped to 686 from last year's 720. Keyur Cholera, coaching mentor, said cutoffs are going to dramatically drop in colleges. "Last year, Mumbai's colleges closed at 670; this year it is likely to come down to 570," he said. State topper Krishang, whose parents hail from Haldwani in Uttarakhand, hopes to get into AIIMS Delhi. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade gold CFDs with a trusted broker | Open an account today. "I was sure to get into the top 50... but AIR 3 was unexpected," said Krishang, whose mother is a homemaker and father works for New Mangalore Port Association. Krishang said he likes the medical profession as it "gives you independence, economic stability, and can serve society. " Siddhi's mother, Surekha Badhe, a teacher in Baramati Municipal Council-run school, said she aimed to get 720 out of 720. "She got 665, but we are happy. Her father is a ZP school teacher. For Aarav Agrawal, the paper this year was tougher than he expected. His survival guide? Leave no topic untouched, train for every difficulty level, and embrace mock tests. Aarav plans to join AIIMS Delhi for his MBBS and strives to pursue postgraduate studies abroad. He unwinds by watching tennis and Formula 1. His father is an engineer, and his mother holds a mid-level management position. Oorja Shah (17) from Vile Parle also aims to get into AIIMS Delhi. "Physics was tougher than anticipated," she said. Her three-step survival kit: Master every NCERT line, drill MCQs, and triage the paper. Away from books, she's a trained Bharatnatyam and Western dancer. Her father runs a business and mother is a career counsellor. Umaid Khan from Nagpur stood at AIR 21. A fan of Real Madrid football club, Umaid also wishes to get into AIIMS Delhi. "My elder brother is also a doctor," he said. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Cousins orphaned young, now NEET achievers

1 2 3 Lucknow: For the Singh family of Orai's Mushmaria village, the NEET 2025 results brought tears of joy as Vishal Singh and Satyam Singh, cousins raised together after losing their parents in a tragic accident, cleared the exam on the first attempt. Both of them studied at a prominent coaching centre where their discipline, determination and shared routine shaped their success. Vishal secured an AIR 2,270 (category rank 1,263), while Satyam scored AIR 6,148 (category rank 2,913). Their uncle Godhan Singh Jadaun, a physics teacher, brought them up after their fathers — his elder and younger brothers — died in a truck accident when the boys were in class three. "I raised both of them like my sons. I brought both these kids from Orai to Lucknow to ensure that they got the best education. They did not have any distraction—no mobile phones no parties—just discipline and dreams. Today, both have fulfilled our long-standing dream," said a tearful Godhan, who lives in Jankipuram with the four kids and his wife. Incidentally, the results came on the eve of Father's Day. But the road wasn't easy. "Managing five children, looking after my cancer-stricken father and running a household in a small village wasn't less than a battle. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo My entire income went into their education. It was an emotional and financial war, but I stood firm because I believed in them," he said. The family already has three more NEET achievers, all raised by Godhan—including his own son and two more nephews—making a total of five future doctors from the same home. "I was eight when I lost my father," shared Vishal. "My uncle is everything to me—my guardian, guide and motivator. Time management was the biggest challenge. I gave at least two hours to every subject with short breaks and focused only on coaching material. Physics was the toughest, but I scored highest in it." Satyam echoed the same. "We never had phones, TV, or parties. We used spare time for revision. Staying offline helped us stay focused." Their message for aspiring students: "You can achieve anything with discipline, self-study and family support." Godhan now dreams of building a hospital in their village, run entirely by his five NEET-cleared children. "This is not just their success—it's a mission for our entire village," he smiled. Special teams to prevent strays from disturbing human remains at crash site

Ahmedabad: In the aftermath of Thursday's devastating plane crash on the medical hostel building in Meghaninagar, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has intensified efforts to secure the crash site amid concerns that human remains may have scattered across the open area. While debris removal and search operations have continued for three days, AMC officials suspect that some remains could have been flung far from the main impact zone due to the force of the crash. In response, the civic body has deployed multiple teams to prevent stray dogs and birds from disturbing or carrying away human remains from the site and its vicinity. "After a video surfaced showing what appeared to be a part of a human head on the road, we grew concerned that remains might have landed beyond the crash perimeter," said an AMC official on condition of anonymity. "Stray dogs or birds like crows and vultures might reach these areas, so we are taking all necessary precautions." Two teams, each comprising more than 12 personnel — including bouncers, police constables, AMC workers, and labourers — have been assigned to patrol the site and nearby zones. Since Friday, efforts to capture stray dogs have been underway, with two animals already captured. In addition, areas with high bird activity are being monitored and inspected, and personnel are working to deter scavenger birds. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Depuratore d'acqua di nuova generazione: ecco quanto costa Depuratori d'acqua Scopri di più Undo In a high-level response, the AMC commissioner has deployed 52 senior officers to manage site operations in three shifts. The chief fire officer's team is handling the respectful retrieval and transfer of bodies. The health officer is overseeing the spraying of disinfectants at the crash site and surrounding areas to maintain hygiene. The central workshop is providing the necessary transport vehicles, while CNC-led teams are focused on stray dog capture and broader animal control. Authorities have cordoned off the crash area but remain vigilant about open spaces around the site. With a complex and sensitive recovery process underway, AMC is calling on residents to avoid the area and to refrain from circulating disturbing visuals on social media.
