Report: BYU's Egor Demin will declare for the NBA draft
Egor Demin has reportedly made up his mind.
BYU's star point guard will forego his remaining college eligibility and declare for the NBA draft, according to a Tuesday report from Jonathan Givony of ESPN.
Demin will officially announce his decision at a press conference at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday in Provo before appearing on 'BYU Sports Nation.'

As a freshman, Demin started in 33 games for BYU and averaged 10.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 5.5 assists to earn All-Big 12 Honorable Mention status.
He did struggle at times with turnovers and shooting inconsistency this past season, but when Demin flashed, he clearly looked the part as one of college basketball's top talents.
Such was the case in the NCAA Tournament, where Demin played some of his best basketball of the year when the lights were brightest. He scored 13.7 points per game in the NCAA tourney along with 17 total assists against six turnovers as the Cougars reached the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2011.
The Russian star is a projected first-round selection in this summer's NBA draft, with The Ringer ranking him as the No. 15 overall prospect in the current class.
'Demin is the Three-Eyed Raven of this draft — he sees everything at all times,' wrote J. Kyle Mann of The Ringer. 'He is the most talented all-around passer in the draft, spotting cutters and weakside looks from 3 that others simply do not. He makes simple reads within the flow of the offense, whether he's playing off the catch and attacking a closeout or catching the ball in the middle of the floor, but most importantly, he's gifted at using his outside-the-box thinking to pry open passing windows.

'With a live dribble, he excels at using his terrific size to sling pinpointed darts with overhand touch. And, crucially, he passes a shootable ball — they're typically on time and on target, with the right amount of ball deceleration so that the recipient can flow into their motion.'
With Demin's departure — along with Dallin Hall's intention to transfer — Kevin Young and his staff will search for a new starting point guard out of the transfer portal to play alongside consensus No. 1 recruit AJ Dybantsa this coming season.

MSU basketball listed among top teams in Big Ten in latest preseason rankings
Today's edition of the ROTHSTEIN 45 is now LIVE following recent 10:1. Purdue2. Houston3. St. John's4. Florida5. Michigan6. UConn7. UCLA8. BYU9. Duke10. Texas TechCC: @FDSportsBook, @ Michigan State basketball remains just outside of the top 20 in the latest preseason rankings from one of the game's top analysts. Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports has released an updated batch of preseason rankings for the 2025-26 college basketball season, and the Spartans remain listed just outside the top 20. Rothstein has the Spartans at No. 21 in his updated version of the rankings that were released on Tuesday. Among Big Ten teams, the Spartans rank No. 5 in Rothstein's list but there is a notable drop off after the top three. He has Purdue (No. 1), Michigan (No. 5) and UCLA (No. 7) all in the top 10, and then next from the Big Ten is Oregon (No. 20) one spot before the Spartans. Michigan State is the reigning Big Ten champs and went the furthest of any team from the league in the NCAA Tournament by reaching the Elite Eight this past season. However, the Spartans have lost a number of key pieces off that highly-successful team, including leading scorers Jase Richardson and Jaden Akins -- so many like Rothstein anticipate a step back from the Spartans next season. As I've said during most of this offseason, I feel like anywhere from No. 15 to No. 25 is about right for the Spartans in next year's preseason poll. I would be quite surprised if they were any higher than No. 15 and shocked if they were unranked when the official preseason polls drop in a few months. Pete Alonso breaks Darryl Strawberry's Mets franchise home run record
Led by manager Carlos Mendoza, the Mets poured out of the dugout to exchange embraces with Alonso as the crowd chanted his name. Alonso emerged for another curtain call during McNeil's at-bat. Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up Following the inning, the Mets played the theme from 'The Natural' and Alonso again doffed his cap as the camera lingered on Strawberry's No. 18 hanging above foul territory in left field at Citi Field. Advertisement It was Alonso's fifth homer in 10 games this month — as many as he hit in 43 games from June 10 through July 30. He tied Strawberry's record by going deep against the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday. A homegrown star, Alonso broke into the big leagues with a bang in 2019, hitting 53 home runs to set a major league rookie record and establish a franchise high for a single season. Advertisement The five-time All-Star has reached 40 two other times and been one of the most consistent sluggers in baseball since his arrival. After a protracted negotiation, he returned to the Mets as a free agent in February on a $54 million, two-year contract that includes a $24 million player option for 2026 which Alonso likely will decline. The only other active players who lead their current franchise in home runs are Manny Machado (Padres) and Mike Trout (Angels). Giancarlo Stanton, now with the New York Yankees, holds the Miami mark with 267 for the Marlins. Strawberry broke the previous Mets record with his 155th home run on May 3, 1988, passing Dave Kingman. The sweet-swinging outfielder hit 252 in 1,109 games for New York during his first eight major league seasons from 1983-90. He later played for the Dodgers, Giants, and Yankees, finishing his 17-year career with 335 homers. Alonso played his 965th regular-season game Tuesday. The durable first baseman has played in 372 straight, a team record. The Diamondbacks and Padres are the lone major league teams who haven't had a player hit more than 252 homers for them. Luis Gonzalez holds the Arizona record with 224, and Machado entered Tuesday with 187 for San Diego.

"It's all metrics, it has nothing to do with our feelings" - Gilbert Arenas on Steph Curry ranking higher than Kobe Bryant in the top 100 list
"It's all metrics, it has nothing to do with our feelings" - Gilbert Arenas on Steph Curry ranking higher than Kobe Bryant in the top 100 list originally appeared on Basketball Network. When Bleacher Report recently unveiled its list of the top 100 players in NBA history, fans across the basketball world were stunned by what many viewed as blatant disrespect towards Kobe Bryant. The Black Mamba was ranked just outside the top 10, landing at No. 11, one spot behind Stephen Curry. While the majority of fans consider Kobe to be a better all-around player, a bigger inspiration, a more idolized figure and a more accomplished legend than Steph, Gilbert Arenas wasn't surprised by the ranking. In fact, he explained why fans should question the metrics used for such rankings instead of doubting the greatness of any player placed above KB24. Gil reacts to Steph being placed ahead of Kobe in the Top 100 list Aside from the fact that Kobe has more championships (five to Curry's four) and one more Finals MVP, he also boasts seven additional All-Star selections, two more All-Star Game MVPs and four more All-NBA selections than Steph. Kob' ranks fourth in total points (including the postseason and regular season), is tied for second in total All-NBA selections. The late Laker legend is also third in overall All-Star nods and third in 40-point games. Such stats reinforce the depth of his resume and why fans often hold him highly in the GOAT conversation. Although many argue that Bryant was the second coming of Michael Jordan, while Curry revolutionized the modern game with his 3-point shooting, Arenas pointed out that the latter's higher placement in the rankings is clearly based on modern metrics. Fans shouldn't let that influence their personal views or emotional connection to either player. "It's easier if you follow the same metrics that I follow. MVP? You get 1000 points. Scoring title? You get 900 (points). First Team All-Offense? You get 800 (points)," Arenas said. "Then, you kinda see how they came up with it. Hence why, last month, because of the metric, I said when the new list comes out, I said Kobe fans and Curry fans… not real Kobe fans. But Kobe-Kobe fans. It's two different people… Kobe-Kobe fans and Curry fans are about to be at war because I looked at the criteria, I'm counting Steph's points, and I'm like, 'Ah! S–t!' It's all metrics, man, it has nothing to do with our feelings," the retired guard Kobe have been ahead of Steph? If the argument against Kobe's ranking is based on the idea that he won three of his titles as a sidekick to Shaquille O'Neal, then it is only fair to bring up that Steph's championship path was significantly boosted by the presence of Kevin Durant. Without KD joining the Golden State Warriors, there's no guarantee that Steph would have secured the 2017 and 2018 titles, especially after how the Cleveland Cavaliers stole the title from his grasp a year before. Even when the Warriors did win, it was Durant who earned Finals MVP honors both times. Nevertheless, while debates and narratives can be shaped to support either side, whether one thinks Kobe should be higher or Steph deserves the edge, the truth is that both players are not just among the most accomplished in NBA history, but also among the most influential. They have each inspired generations with their game and drawn millions of fans towards the story was originally reported by Basketball Network on Jul 16, 2025, where it first appeared.
