Another glorious football season is upon us.
Before you know it, you'll be betting college games every Saturday and firing NFL wagers on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays for the next four months.
What a time to be alive.
Last year, my FOX Sports futures were +3.35 units heading into Super Bowl LIX with the Kansas City Chiefs winning it all (+600) as the last bet standing. That preseason poke allowed you to either ride out K.C. or free roll Philly.
Not too shabby!
Here are seven football futures to bet on right now:
1. Toledo wins MAC Championship Game
If you listen to "Bear Bets" or "Bet Sweats," you know how much I love Toledo. However, Rockets Over 8.5 wins has moved 30 cents. Rather than advise you to take the worst of it, let's move to the MAC title market. I don't envision many teams stopping Toledo's running game and Jason Candle's squad is one of the very few in the conference that got better in the transfer portal.
PICK: Toledo (+230) to win MAC Championship
2. California Under 5.5 wins
It's no secret there's chaos around Cal's program because general manager Ron Rivera has more juice than head coach Justin Wilcox. The Golden Bears have two new coordinators and lost over 35 players to the portal, including last year's starting QB Fernando Mendoza. Cal should start 2-2 before a brutal cross-country ACC schedule that might net two conference wins.
PICK: California (-144) Under 5.5 wins
3. Ohio State Under 10.5 wins
Last year's national title run was special, but whew, does Ohio State have a ton to replace. A draft-high 14 Buckeyes were selected in April's NFL Draft, including seven players in the first two rounds. There's a ton of pressure on freshman QB Julian Sayin and let's not ignore the possibility OSU is 0-1 out of the chute with a loss to Texas. Then it'll have to go 11-0 to beat us.

4. Minnesota Vikings make playoffs
Yes, I've already written about the Vikings this offseason. And yes, I'm still a sucker for their 53-man roster. Minnesota also has two of the NFL's best play-callers, with Kevin O'Connell orchestrating the offense and Brian Flores dialing up defensive pressure. Assuming youngster QB J.J. McCarthy protects the football as he always has, this should be a playoff team.
PICK: Vikings (+100) to make playoffs
5. Christian McCaffrey wins Offensive POY
McCaffrey won this award two years ago, then played four games last year. Reports are peachy out of San Francisco, though, and sources are saying "Run CMC" looks great. The Niners have one of the easiest schedules in the league, which should lead them to feed their beast plenty in second halves. Price matters, too. McCaffrey was 6-1 last summer, now he's north of 20-1.

6. San Francisco 49ers win NFC
Assuming McCaffrey stays healthy, this is a top-three team in the NFC that got younger and faster on defense. And I absolutely love San Francisco bringing back Robert Saleh to coordinate that side of the ball. A lot like Vic Fangio's addition to Philadelphia's staff last year, Saleh's hire is an "A." Don't be surprised when the Niners win 12 games and make a playoff run.

7. Buffalo Bills win Super Bowl
After betting Kansas City to hoist the Lombardi Trophy the last six summers, it's time to make a change. Buffalo has done everything right in the regular season (61-22 last five years), but the Bills have three one-score playoff losses to those big, bad Chiefs. It's been heartbreaking. I still love Buffalo's roster and believe bringing Tre'Davious White back and adding Joey Bosa are championship-caliber moves. All the notables return for the Bills' elite offense, too. This is MVP Josh Allen's best chance to reach the big one.

ESPN analysts on Colts benching Anthony Richardson for Daniel Jones: 'Tough season' ahead
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has reached a tipping point in his career, according to a couple of ESPN NFL analysts. On August 19, the Colts named Daniel Jones their starting quarterback for the 2025 season. Louis Riddick and Ryan Clark believe Richardson's response to the benching will go a long way in determining whether he remains in the league long term. Riddick said Richardson, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, is going through a "brutal" stretch. 'Anthony is not without responsibility in this. And he knows that, too," Riddick said Wednesday on "Get Up." "He has spoken to that, too. And this is a hell of a hard lesson for him to have to learn. This is going to be a tough season for him. It really is. He's going to have to do some serious soul searching about, 'How do I perfect my process, so I never have to face this, feel this way again?' Because it's got to be brutal.' Jones and Richardson had similar statistics for most of training camp and in preseason games, but coach Shane Steichen highlighted the consistency of handling situations at the line of scrimmage favoring Jones. "I think Daniel did a great job doing that," he said. "AR has made strides in that area, but I do think he needs to develop." Clark agrees with Riddick that this season will challenge Richardson. 'He has to take his professionalism up a level. ... He has to show a level of football character to being the backup that changes not only the mindset for the Colts but the perception of him outside the building.' Richardson said he had "no hard feelings" over the move. His agent, Deiric Jackson, on Tuesday expressed disappointment, adding: "We have a lot to discuss." Jones started 69 of the 70 games in which he played for the New York Giants from 2019-24. New York when 24-44-1 in games he started. He had the NFL's lowest interception percentage (1.1%) in 2022, his one playoff appearance with the Giants (9-6-1). He passed for a career-high 3,205 yards with 15 touchdowns and 5 interceptions that season. Jones had a league-leading 19 fumbles as a rookie in 2019. Jones signed a one-year contract that counts $14.5 million toward the salary cap on March 11. Jones attended Duke, where he played from 2016-18, appearing in 36 games, and passing for 8,201 yards, 52 touchdowns and 29 interceptions. He also rushed for 13,23 yards and 17 TDs. Jones missed the last 8 games of the 2023 season with an ACL tear. He has also missed 9 games with neck injuries and 7 games with other injuries in his NFL career. Anthony Richardson suffered a dislocated pinkie on his right hand in the Colts' preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens. He missed the rest of that game but did not miss any practice or game time afterward. Richardson played four games in his rookie season of 2023, missing time first with a concussion and then the rest of the season with a shoulder injury suffered in Week 5 or 6?? Richardson appeared in 11 games in 2024, missing four games because of a back and hip injuries. He was also benched for two games. Richardson appeared in 24 games at Florida from 2020-22, only playing reguarly in the 2022 season. He completed 54.7% of his passes for 3,105 yards, 24 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,116 yards and 12 touchdowns. 23. The Colts picked Richardson No. 4 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Analyzing the Browns' snap counts vs. the Eagles
The Cleveland Browns' second preseason matchup provided the team with a better look at where some of their position battles stand as the regular season approaches. The Browns got a look at another rookie quarterback with Dillon Gabriel getting the start, and several veteran players vying for roles on the team stepped up to the occasion during the team's 22-13 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Let's take a look at the snap counts from the win in Philadelphia: Offense With quarterbacks Kenny Pickett and Shedeur Sanders sidelined with injuries, the Browns again only played two quarterbacks on Saturday. As previously mentioned, third-round pick Dillon Gabriel got the start and played the entire first half against the Eagles (38 snaps). Tyler Huntley closed out the game again for Cleveland and played the remaining 28 snaps on offense. This time around, the most active face on offense was veteran running back Pierre Strong Jr., who is fighting for a roster spot in a crowded running back room. Strong played 65% of the Browns' offensive snaps on Saturday (43 plays), while the rest of the team's active running backs – Ahmani Marshall, Trayveon Williams, and Toa Taua – combined for 23 snaps. Rookie wide receiver Gage Larvadain was again on the field for over half of Cleveland's offensive plays, leading all receivers with 37 snaps (57% of the Browns' offensive plays). Veterans Diontae Johnson and Jamari Thrash, who are both vying for the Browns' third receiver spot, both got heavier workloads this week with 27 and 24 snaps, respectively. Starting receiver Cedric Tillman was active after not playing against Carolina and played 16 snaps. After rookies Dylan Sampson and Harold Fannin Jr. each played a very small amount of snaps in the preseason opener, neither player saw the field against Philadelphia, again a sign that the team could be preparing both players for serious roles on offense when the regular season arrives. Along the offensive line, second-year guard Zak Zinter made his return from injury and logged all 38 first-half snaps for the Browns, alongside Luke Wypler, Jackson Barton, and Teven Jenkins. Starting left tackle Dawand Jones got limited playing time, as he saw 21 snaps (32%). Defense It would've been hard to tell live because of how active he was, but defensive end Isaiah McGuire played just six snaps for the Browns on Saturday. The former fourth-round pick had two tackles and a sack in his limited action, and is a major reason why the Browns' defensive line depth looks so promising heading into the regular season. Along with McGuire, veteran pass-rusher Julian Okwara also had an impressive game, recording a second-half hit on former Browns quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson that resulted in a pick-six. Okwara saw more playing time than his fellow standout defensive lineman, however, as he played 51% of the Browns' defensive snaps. Leading the pack on defense was linebacker Nathaniel Watson, who played a whopping 87% of the Browns' defensive snaps (41 plays), followed by safety Christopher Edmonds at 81%. Undrafted rookies Donovan McMillon and Easton Mascarenas-Arnold were the only other Browns to register over 60% of the defensive snaps at 79% and 77%, respectively. Each of the three players vying for the Browns' starting nickel spot again played a decent chunk of snaps, with veteran safety Nik Needham leading the pack at 23 snaps (49%). Cameron Mitchell and Myles Harden each played around a third of the team's defensive snaps, with 15 and 13 snaps respectively. Special teams Kicker Andre Szmyt saw his first action this preseason against the Eagles. Playing six snaps, Szmyt made all three of his kicks (two field goals with a long of 49, as well as an extra point). Dustin Hopkins played four snaps and made his only attempted kick of the day, a 46-yard field goal in the second quarter. Undrafted rookie defensive end Adin Huntington continued to play a big chunk of the Browns' special teams snaps – 10 of them this week – but he wasn't the team's leader this time around. That honor went to the aforementioned Donovan McMillan, who in addition to his heavy defensive workload played 14 snaps on special teams (58% of the Browns' special teams plays.) Okwara, Mascarenas-Arnold, and Needham also saw double-digit special teams snaps against the Eagles. Rookie running back Ahmani Marshall played nine special teams snaps in addition to his six carries for 25 yards on offense. Special teams ability alone won't get some of these players on the roster, but for players like Okwara and Marshall who have proven they can contribute in other areas too, those snaps could prove to be a difference-maker when it's time to cut down the roster.
