Demi Lovato, The Jonas Brothers And The Power Of Moving Forward
It can be special to walk down memory lane with old friends.
Music fans were treated to that experience over the weekend when Demi Lovato appeared in concert with her former 'Camp Rock' co-stars, the Jonas Brothers. The siblings — Joe, Nick and Kevin — were kicking off their 20th anniversary tour, Jonas20, at MetLife Stadium in their home state of New Jersey.
Lovato and the Jonas Brothers share a lot of history — a lot of ups and downs. In addition to appearing in the 2008 Disney Channel Original Movie 'Camp Rock' and its sequel, she and Joe Jonas also briefly dated in real life, and she later toured with Nick.
All of these years later, the concert moment is a reminder of the power of being able to bury the hatchet and move forward. It also offers lessons for business partners and former friends who have hit a rough patch.
The concert moment was electric. Lovato was introduced to the stage after a video montage from the initial movie played. She hugged Joe and performed her songs 'This Is Me' and 'Wouldn't Change a Thing.'
It all seemed so effortless and natural.
The passage of time helps, sure. The brothers have moved forward with their lives, as has Lovato, who recently married Jordan 'Jutes' Lutes. When reconnecting with old friends or business partners, even if things got messy or didn't end on great terms, it's easy to fall back on the shared shorthand.
There's no need to put on airs. You understand each other at your best and worst. It's good to remind ourselves, even if we endure some initial butterflies, that it's possible to fall back to familiarity. The relationship may be strained or nonexistent, but it didn't used to be that way.
Of course, a clean, respectful exit makes it easier to make up.
The more hostile and difficult the split, the less likely reconciliation will be. Take Sriracha hot-sauce maker Huy Fong Foods, for example. Huy Fong had a decades-long partnership with pepper grower Underwood Ranches. But after the Sriracha-maker callously withheld payments from Underwood, the relationship deteriorated and litigation followed.
A jury found Huy Fong liable for breach of contract and awarded Underwood Ranches $23.3 million. Underwood launched its own brand of Sriracha, Dragon Sauce, that — along with supply chain woes — represents a threat to Huy Fong's beloved, green-capped condiment.
It's okay if a business partnership doesn't last, but it's important for partners to remain respectful through the termination of the collaboration and to leave a window open — if not for reconciliation, at least respectfulness.
Trust — or a lack of it — is often to blame when collaborations fail.
One McKinsey & Company study found that internal communication and trust represented the leading causes (38%) for failure of joint ventures. Trust and communication go hand-in-hand. Direct communication represents one avenue to repair a damaged relationship. Bringing in a neutral third party can help to create openness in the communication and get both partners speaking the same language again.
But the path to repairing a damaged relationship isn't an easy one. It requires input and effort from both parties, along with mechanisms to carry the relationship past the rocky patch.
Of course, not all relationships are worth salvaging. Partnerships worth repairing — or even considering repairing — should provide long-term value. If you don't like the quality of your dry cleaner or neighborhood grocery store, no big deal.
Cut the cord. Find somewhere new.
Throughout the years, world-famous musicians have followed a similar pattern as a lot of business partnerships: a promising start followed by periods of uncertainty. It's not easy to forge a lasting relationship, especially without a strong commitment to sound governance practices.
Sometimes partners simply go in different directions.
The same is true for personal relationships. Longtime friends might drift away because their interests or opinions shift or romantic partners could find themselves misaligned due to mistrust.
In terms of Lovato and the Jonas Brothers, the crowd erupted and the musicians responded with sheer joy. Being onstage, together, the bitterness and slights and frustrations across the years all washed away. There was music to sing — same as ever.

The Big ‘Superman' Speech Happened After This Emotional Behind the Scenes Moment
Sometimes the most magical thing about a movie is seeing how it came together. We can watch the final product and feel however it makes us feel, but that's usually disconnected from all the work that went into it. You rarely think about the different takes, different conversations, and intense work that go into every single second. Especially a film's biggest, most important emotional moment. James Gunn's Superman is now available to watch at home, and part of the release is a 60-minute special feature called 'Adventures in Making Superman,' which features footage from on set. To show just how intimate the feature gets, Gunn shared the below nearly seven-minute clip on his social media. It's from during the filming of the film's emotional climax when Superman gives Lex Luthor the speech about his flaws and humanity. As you'll see, actor David Corenswet didn't quite connect with the words, so he and Gunn really dug into it on the day. Their conversation is almost as heartwarming as the resulting performance. Check it out. View this post on InstagramThat's just movie-making magic right there. Actor and director, challenging each other to get on the same page. Making sure that the delivery of the speech tracks with everything that happened before. Each being totally open to what the other is saying. Even though Gunn wrote the script and is directing, he's genuinely interested in Corenswet's thoughts. And when they get on the same page, it nearly brings tears to the eyes of the director and his producer-fellow DC Studios president, Peter Safran. The rest of the documentary, and several other features, are on the digital release, which is available now. And, later, people who purchase will have their download updated with a Gunn director commentary and more. We've got the details here. Did you enjoy watching Gunn direct this scene? Does this glimpse behind the curtain give you a new appreciation of it? Let us know below. Want more io9 news? First Plot Details Revealed for Zach Cregger's RESIDENT EVIL Horror Movie — GeekTyrant
The first official plot details for Zach Cregger's highly anticipated Resident Evil movie are finally here, giving fans a glimpse into how the director behind Barbarian plans to tackle the legendary survival horror franchise. Shared by insider Daniel Richtman on social media, the logline introduces us to Austin Abrams' character, Bryan, a laid-back organ courier whose simple delivery job takes a sinister turn. 'Bryan (Austin Abrams), a laid-back organ courier, is sent on a late-night delivery to Raccoon City General Hospital. En route through a snowy mountain road, he accidentally hits a strange woman with his car. 'She survives—but something is very wrong. As he tries to help, Bryan stumbles into a full-blown outbreak involving horrifying tentacle-based mutations and bio-engineered monstrosities.' It's a fresh and intense setup that hints at a return to the series' horror roots. While story details beyond the logline are still under wraps, Cregger isn't tackling this alone. He co-wrote the screenplay with Shay Hatten, who previously worked on Army of the Dead and John Wick: Chapter 4 , promising a script that blends horror and high-stakes action. Cregger previously talked about the movie saying: 'I am the biggest worshiper of the games, so I'm telling a story that is a love letter to the games and follows the rules of the games.' He emphasized that while his film exists in the Resident Evil universe, it will focus on an entirely different set of characters. 'It is obedient to the lore of the games, it's just a different story,' he explained. 'I'm not going to tell Leon's story, because Leon's story is told in the games. [Fans] already have that.' So far, Abrams, known for Euphoria and Weapons , is the only confirmed cast member. However, there are reports that Mikey Madison is in talks for the lead role. Resident Evil has had its fair share of big-screen adaptations, with seven previous films dating back to 2002, most famously starring Milla Jovovich. With Cregger at the helm, though, this reboot looks to bring a darker, more grotesque vision to the franchise, much like what he delivered with Weapons and Barbarian . Cregger, who first made his mark with the sketch comedy group The Whitest Kids U' Know , made a dramatic shift into horror with Barbarian in 2022. That film became a breakout hit, cementing his status as one of horror's most exciting new voices. This upcoming Resident Evil film is shaping up to be something wild and unpredictable. If you're into mutated monstrosities, snowy night terrors, and creepy hospitals, it looks like Cregger's got you covered.
