Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 may feature a surprise hardware return after all

Digital Trends12-05-2025

With the launch of any new Samsung phone comes the will-they-won't-they debate around Exynos hardware. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 – expected to launch in July 2025 – is no different, with new information suggesting that Samsung's next folding phone will be Exynos powered.
The details come from a leaker who has given us useful information in the past. Jukanlosreve has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to say that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 will use an Exynos chip, while the Flip 7 FE will not.

We first heard this claim in December 2024, when it was reported by The Elec that Samsung planned to use its latest hardware to power its compact folding phone. Since then it's emerged that Samsung had wanted to use Exynos 2500 for the Galaxy S25 family, but the yields weren't high enough and it never came to pass.
It seems, then, that the Z Flip 7 is the next target for Samsung, so it will get to use the Exynos hardware in a significant device, rather than moving on to the next-generation Exynos hardware (Exynos 2600), which is expected to power the Galaxy S26 family.

There's traditionally been a regional divide to the Snapdragon vs Exynos debate, so those in the US might find that this is just an amusing aside that impacts the rest of the world, but not those in North America.
Samsung has used Qualcomm's Snapdragon hardware in its North American devices for the last decade and that's unlikely to change. If the company sticks to previous form, we'll see Exynos in Europe, while China and USA still get Snapdragon.
As to the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, rumour suggests that this is going to be basically a Z Flip 5 with updated hardware, allowing Samsung to offer a cheaper folding phone to compete with the likes of the Moto Razr 2025.
Previously it was reported that the Z Flip 7 FE would be powered by the Exynos 2400e, but now it seems that this model might be flipping back to an older Snapdragon chip, potentially the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
The next-generation of Samsung's folding phones are expected to be announced at a bumper Galaxy Unpacked event, which rumor suggests will take place in New York in early July. That event should reveal the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the Galaxy Z Flip 7, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE; it's also expected that we'll see the Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic, and there could be some more details on the Project Moohan headset and possibly Samsung's smart glasses.
It could be a very busy summer for Samsung.

Samsung could turn the Galaxy S26 series into Perplexity phones

Joe Maring / Android Authority TL;DR Samsung is reportedly close to signing a deal with Perplexity to preload its services on Galaxy phones. The deal would see Perplexity's app and assistant installed on Galaxy devices, while its tech could be integrated into Bixby. The companies could announce these integrations later this year before kicking things off on the Galaxy S26 series. Samsung has a close partnership with Google and Microsoft when it comes to services on its Galaxy phones. Now, it sounds like a major AI player could be available out of the box on the Galaxy S26 series. Bloomberg reports that Samsung is close to inking a deal with Perplexity to preload its services and technologies on Galaxy phones, citing sources familiar with the matter. The deal could also see Samsung become one of the AI firm's biggest investors as part of a new round of funding. The outlet claims that Perplexity's assistant and app would be preloaded on Samsung phones, while its search features would be integrated into the Samsung Internet Browser. The companies are also apparently thinking about integrating Perplexity's technology into the Bixby assistant. Do you use Perplexity? 0 votes Yes, all the time NaN % Yes, now and again NaN % No, I don't NaN % Samsung and Perplexity could announce the partnership later this year. However, the companies are reportedly aiming to include Perplexity as the 'default assistant option' on the Galaxy S26 series. The companies might not stop here, though. They've reportedly talked about developing an 'AI-infused' operating system and an 'AI agents' app that would support Perplexity and other AI assistants. Samsung wouldn't be the first Android brand to offer integration with Perplexity, as Motorola beat it to the punch last month. Samsung also has a tight relationship with Google, but it wouldn't be the first time it considered a deal with one of Google's rivals. Samsung apparently considered a switch from Google to Bing in 2023 before ultimately sticking with the search kingpin. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Samsung Nears Wide-Ranging Deal With Perplexity for AI Features

(Bloomberg) -- Samsung Electronics Co. is nearing a wide-ranging deal to invest in Perplexity AI Inc. and put search technology from the artificial intelligence startup at the forefront of the South Korean company's devices. Billionaire Steve Cohen Wants NY to Expand Taxpayer-Backed Ferry Where the Wild Children's Museums Are Now With Colorful Blocks, Tirana's Pyramid Represents a Changing Albania The Economic Benefits of Paying Workers to Move NYC Congestion Toll Brings In $216 Million in First Four Months The two companies are in talks to preload Perplexity's app and assistant on upcoming Samsung devices and integrate the startup's search features into the Samsung web browser, according to people with knowledge of the matter. The firms have also discussed weaving Perplexity's technology into Samsung's Bixby virtual assistant, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the talks are private. Samsung is planning to announce the Perplexity integrations as early as this year, the people said, with the goal of including the service as a default assistant option in the Galaxy S26 phone line that's slated to launch in the first half of 2026. However, the specific details haven't been finalized and could still change. The tech giant is also expected to be one of the biggest investors in a new round of funding for Perplexity, the people said. The startup is in advanced discussions to raise $500 million at a $14 billion valuation, Bloomberg News has reported. The broad tie-up may help Samsung reduce its reliance on Alphabet Inc.'s Google and pave the way for it to work with a mix of AI developers, similar to Apple Inc.'s strategy for its devices and services. For Perplexity, the arrangement would mark its biggest mobile partnership to date and follows a recent integration deal with Motorola. Representatives for Samsung and Perplexity declined to comment. The two companies entered discussions about a partnership earlier this year, Bloomberg News reported in April. In recent weeks, the two sides met in South Korea, leading to them closing in on an agreement, the people said. Samsung and Perplexity have also discussed building an AI-infused operating system and an AI agents app that can tap into functionality from Perplexity and a range of other AI assistants, the people said. Apple has also shown interest in working with Perplexity. The iPhone maker has discussed using Perplexity as an alternative to Google Search as well as a substitute for ChatGPT integration in the Siri voice assistant, Bloomberg News has reported. 'We've been pretty impressed with what Perplexity has done, so we've started some discussions with them about what they're doing,' Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of services, said during recent testimony at a Google antitrust trial. It's unclear how Perplexity's relationship with Samsung, one of Apple's fiercest rivals, would affect that. --With assistance from Shirin Ghaffary and Yoolim Lee.
