After doubling and blasting a home run in Minnesota's 9-4 home win over Kansas City on Friday, Wallner and his wife, Sydnie, welcomed a baby girl named Elliotte Bryn on Saturday morning.

Yankees bash four homers in victory over Twins
August 12 - Will Warren pitched 6 2/3 effective innings for the New York Yankees, who hit four solo homers and recorded a 6-2 victory over the visiting Minnesota Twins on Monday night. Warren (7-5) allowed three hits while guiding the Yankees to just their third win in 10 games. He became the first Yankees starter to complete at least six innings since he did so on July 30 against the Tampa Bay Rays. Warren served up homers to Byron Buxton and Trevor Larnach during his longest outing since May 9. The right-hander struck out seven and did not allow a walk for the second time in 25 starts this season. Cody Bellinger, Giancarlo Stanton and Ben Rice homered in the first three innings off Minnesota's Zebby Matthews (3-4). Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered in the eighth off Erasmo Ramirez as the Yankees hit at least four homers for the 13th time this season. Trent Grisham and Aaron Judge added RBI singles in the seventh as the Yankees improved to 25-7 against the Twins in the past 32 regular-season meetings. The Twins, who had won four of their previous five games, managed only three hits. Bellinger opened the scoring when he drove a 2-2 fastball out to right seats with two outs in the first. It was Bellinger's first homer in 11 games. Stanton put the Yankees up 2-0 with two outs in the third when he hammered a first-pitch fastball into the New York bullpen beyond the right-center-field fence. It was Stanton's 10th homer in his past 25 games and 440th of his career, tying Jason Giambi for 44th on the all-time list. Rice followed Stanton's blast by making it back-to-back blasts, driving a 2-2 slider into the right field seats. Warren took a shutout into the sixth until Buxton hit an 0-1 sweeper into the left field seats with two outs. Warren was one strike away from completing a 1-2-3 seventh when Larnach sent a full-count curveball into the right field seats, the final pitch from the New York starter. Luke Weaver took over on the mound and wound up getting four outs. David Bednar finished up a non-save situation with two strikeouts in the ninth. Matthews allowed three runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings. He tied his career best with nine strikeouts and walked one. --Field Level Media

Horror at North Carolina racetrack as fan favorite dies after suffering mid-race medical emergency
A veteran stock-car driver at a North Carolina race track died over the weekend after suffering a medical emergency while competing. Fan favorite Robbie Brewer's car struck a wall head-on at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem and came to a stop near the start-finish line, leaving fans fearing for the driver's wellbeing. Track workers were forced to peel away the roof to remove 53-year-old Brewer, and an ambulance rushed him to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist hospital, after which he died, the Winston-Salem Journal reported. 'We are saddened by the passing of Robbie Brewer after he was transported to an area medical facility following an on-track medical incident,' track officials said Sunday in a statement. 'Robbie was a talented and passionate racer, and highly respected competitor among his peers. Our thoughts and prayers are with Robbie´s family and friends at this time.' Details of the medical emergency weren't released. Tragedy at Bowman Gray Stadium last night during a Sportsman Series race. She also claimed Brewer was 'eager' to get back on track after the break and felt his first practice 'went great', leading to him skipping the second. 'I will never forget that long walk down the halls at Baptist Hospital — that moment is forever etched in my soul. Robbie left this world in a way so fitting for the man he was — doing what he loved most.' Brewer and his fiancee were due to marry later this month, having recently obtained their marriage license on July 26. 'Robbie Brewer, I love you to the moon and back… and all around the race track,' McCarter added in her statement. Brewer was competing in a 20-lap Sportsman Series race at Bowman Gray, where thousands of racing fans turn out weekly on Saturday nights in the spring and summer for races across four divisions. Bowman Gray also was the locale for this year's preseason NASCAR Cup Series exhibition event in early February. Brewer's first career start at the oval came in 1990, and he made nearly 260 starts in the Sportsman Division, winning the points championship in 2011, the newspaper reported. Fellow Bowman Gray driver Brad Lewis, whose race shop is near where Brewer lived, said Brewer 'was like a big brother to me even though we were not that far apart in age.' 'He was a wheelman through and through,' Lewis said. 'I´m not only going to honor him the rest of the season but for as long as we race out there. He´ll be missed.'

Nevada court apparently clears way for former Raiders coach Jon Gruden to sue NFL over emails
A Nevada court apparently cleared the way Monday for a 2021 lawsuit filed by former Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden to proceed against the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell, alleging that a 'malicious and orchestrated campaign' was used to destroy Gruden's career by leaking old emails he had sent that included racist, misogynistic and homophobic comments. In 2022, the NFL appealed to Nevada's high court after a judge in Las Vegas rejected league bids to dismiss Gruden's claim outright or to order out-of-court talks through an arbitration process that could be overseen by Goodell. The Nevada Supreme Court, in a 5-2 ruling, said that 'the arbitration clause in the NFL Constitution is unconscionable and does not apply to Gruden as a former employee.' Gruden's lawsuit alleged that Goodell and the league pressured the Raiders to fire Gruden by leaking emails containing racist, sexist and homophobic comments that Gruden sent, when he was an on-air analyst at ESPN from 2011 to 2018. Gruden resigned from the Raiders in October 2021 and sued the league a month later. The NFL declined to comment on the ruling. Gruden's attorney did not return a phone message seeking comment. Gruden was Raiders head coach when the team moved in 2020 to Las Vegas from Oakland, California. He's seeking monetary damages, alleging that selective disclosure of the emails and their publication by the Wall Street Journal and New York Times ruined his career and endorsement contracts. Gruden coached the Raiders in Oakland from 1998 to 2001, then led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for seven years, winning a Super Bowl title in 2003. He spent several years as a TV analyst for ESPN before being hired by the Raiders again in 2018. He later consulted for the New Orleans Saints in 2023. He is now a part-owner and consultant for the Nashville Kats, a team in the Arena Football One league.
