Kyle Karros, son of 1992 NL Rookie of the Year Eric Karros, hits RBI single in first MLB at-bat
The 23-year-old Karros — the son of 1992 National League Rookie of the Year Eric Karros — hit an RBI single in his first big-league plate appearance Friday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The younger Karros has been a fast mover through the Rockies' minor-league system after being selected in the fifth round of the 2023 draft out of UCLA. He was batting .301 with six homers this season in the minors.
The elder Karros hit 284 homers over a 14-year career, mostly with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The 57-year-old also played in college at UCLA, where he was teammates with current Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo.

The Toronto Blue Jays answered their surge in the standings with a bold move at the trade deadline, acquiring former Cy Young Award winner Shane Bieber from the Cleveland Guardians. Though the team has been performing well without him, the addition of Bieber seemed to be just what the Blue Jays needed to make a push to the playoffs followed by a deep run. If he can recapture even a modicum of his top form, he'll be a key contributor alongside starters Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios, Chris Bassitt and Max Scherzer. But the Blue Jays might not have him in the rotation for very long. He has yet to make his big-league debut with his new team as he rehabs from Tommy John surgery. And he seems likely to opt out of his contract this winter. "The righty is on the wrong side of 30, and at this point in his career, he likely won't receive a long-term deal," Curt Bishop wrote for FanSided, listing Bieber as a star who is "absolutely declining" his option. "(But) he's looking awfully impressive in the minors so far, and if he recaptures some of his previous Cy Young form, there are teams that will be eager to give him a three- or four-year contract (likely including playing time incentives)." Though his injury history is daunting, he could put some of those concerns behind him if he maintains his post-surgery production in the big leagues. In six starts across the minors so far he has a 2.45 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 22 innings. As a result, Bieber will most likely opt out of his remaining year with the Blue Jays in favor of something longer.
