Local issues discussed at Mini Mahanadus
Ongole: The Telugu Desam Party conducted the Mini Mahanadu for the Kondapi, Markapur, Kanigiri, and Darsi assembly constituencies on Monday, under the leadership of the local MLAs and in-charges, Dr Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, Kandula Narayana Reddy, Dr Mukku Ugranarasimha Reddy, and Dr Gottipati Lakshmi, respectively.
Hundreds of leaders and cadre from the assembly constituency, mandal, to the booth level participated in these Mini Mahanadus, discussed the local issues, and assured all support to the party workers. Speaking at the Mini Mahanadu in Kondapi, along with AP Maritime Board chairman Damacharla Sathya, the social welfare minister and local MLA Dr DSBV Swamy said that workers are the TDP's strongest foundation and their sacrifices are invaluable. He announced that the government has withdrawn false cases filed against 41 TDP workers in the constituency during the previous YSRCP government. The minister criticised former Chief Minister Jagan for pushing the state into a debt trap through inefficient governance. The minister revealed that 'Annadata Sukhibhava' and 'Talliki Vandanam' schemes will be implemented in June.
The minister highlighted that development works worth over Rs 50 crore have already been completed, and proposals worth Rs 450 crore have been sent for a drinking water scheme from Ramatirtham to Kondapi constituency.
Speaking at the Mini Mahanadu in Kanigiri, along with local MLA Dr MUN Reddy, the APTDC Chairman and TDP Prakasam district president Dr Nukasani Balaji, said that the welfare of TDP workers remains the government's foremost priority. He said that the remaining two of the 'Super Six' schemes are scheduled for launch shortly.
He detailed several major development projects targeted for the Kanigiri constituency, including the IIIT campus, the Biogas Plant, and the Nadikudi-Srikalahasti railway line. Concluding his address on a historical note, Dr Balaji remarked that the land which witnessed the fighting spirit of Katamraju 1200 years ago was now seeing TDP victory flagsflying high.

New Delhi: On the occasion of Narendra Modi completing 11 years in office, Padma Shri awardee Kanubhai Hasmukhbhai Tailor on Monday stated that for him the Prime Minister is the incarnation of god and thanked him for the immense support and recognition he received under his leadership. In a conversation with IANS, social worker Tailor credited PM Modi for transforming not only his life but also the lives of countless differently-abled individuals across India. 'For me, Narendra Modi is god incarnate,' said Tailor. 'Since the time he became Chief Minister of Gujarat, he has worked tirelessly to bring differently-abled children and people into the mainstream. The credit for this change belongs to him alone.' Tailor, who runs a school for differently-abled children in Surat, Gujarat, was awarded the Padma Shri in 2018 for his outstanding contributions to social service and disability welfare. He praised the Modi government for its transparent and inclusive award selection process and for prioritising disability welfare. He recalled how PM Modi personally supported the establishment of his school. 'With his help, we received land in Surat to build the school. Modi ji even inaugurated a hospital for the differently-abled. Once, he told me, 'Start teaching the children from tomorrow morning.' That inspiration led us to launch a BCA college for the differently-abled, which has now received university recognition.' Tailor also highlighted the dire condition of disabled beggars in India. 'Many of them are forced to live on railway platforms and streets. After they die, their bodies remain unclaimed,' he said with emotion. To address this, he has initiated the construction of an old-age home in Bharuch's Uchedia village along the Narmada river for 12 disabled individuals. 'This will be like a resort and will cost around Rs 20 crore,' he shared. Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel laid the foundation stone of the project, and KP Group Chairman Faruk Patel has taken responsibility for the home. Praising PM Modi's eye for talent and commitment to recognising real social heroes, Tailor said, 'Modi ji travels across India and notices people who are genuinely working for society. He immediately understands their character and ensures they are recognised. For those who receive the Padma awards, it's often a complete surprise. Modi ji comes as a blessing and lifts ordinary people to national recognition.' He also applauded the post-2014 changes in the Padma award selection process: 'Now people from rural areas and diverse fields like handicrafts, agriculture, education, and social work are being honoured. The process is transparent and inspiring. The government is recognising the unsung heroes.' Tailor concluded with deep gratitude: 'I was just an ordinary man. PM Modi gave me recognition in India and abroad, helped me build a school and a hospital, and brought differently-abled individuals into the mainstream. His vision and dedication are giving a new direction to India. I have immense respect for him.'

‘Sakshi TV' anchor arrested for derogatory remarks against Amaravati women
Hyderabad: Senior journalist and 'Sakshi TV' anchor Kommineni Srinivasa Rao was arrested on Monday by Andhra Pradesh police for allegedly making derogatory remarks against women from the Amaravati region during a televised debate. He was detained from his residence in Journalists' Colony, Hyderabad, and taken to Andhra Pradesh for further legal proceedings. Srinivasa Rao is to be produced before a court in the Guntur district, where a case has been registered at the Thullur Police Station. The arrest follows a complaint lodged by State Madiga Corporation Director Khambampati Sirisha. Along with Srinivasa Rao, political analyst V.V.R. Krishnam Raju, and the management of 'Sakshi TV' have also been named in the FIR. The accused have been booked under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and other relevant sections of the IPC. Several Amaravati-based women farmers and members of various Joint Action Committees (JACs) have also filed complaints, condemning the remarks that allegedly referred to Amaravati as a 'capital of prostitutes'-- a statement widely viewed as an offensive and demeaning insult to the women who gave up their land for the capital city's development. Assembly Deputy Speaker K. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju also filed a complaint with the Director General of Police (DGP), calling for strict action. 'Such remarks are not only biased but a serious breach of journalistic ethics and human decency,' he said. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu strongly condemned the remarks aired on the channel owned by former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. 'Our culture honours daughters and mothers. Vulgar and disgraceful remarks against them, under the guise of political discourse or media commentary, are unacceptable,' Naidu said. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan shared the same sentiment, warning that the government would take stringent legal action. He described the remarks as part of a politically motivated smear campaign against Amaravati and its women land contributors. 'This is not an isolated incident. It's part of a well-orchestrated conspiracy. The public must see through the real intentions of Jagan Mohan Reddy and his media machinery,' he said. Meanwhile, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) dismissed the outrage as a 'malicious campaign' led by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and its allied media. YSRCP leader Pothina Mahesh clarified that the statements made by the journalist were not reflective of the party's views. 'TDP is deliberately amplifying these remarks to divert attention from the strong public response to our recent protests,' Mahesh said. He also accused the TDP and its social media wing of hypocrisy, alleging that they regularly engage in online abuse, including targeting YSRCP women leaders and supporters. 'These platforms are being funded by Nara Lokesh to malign opponents and spread misinformation,' Mahesh alleged.

SC refuses urgent hearing to TN's plea against Centre over education funds
The Supreme Court on Monday refused to accord urgent hearing to a plea filed by the Tamil Nadu government against the Centre for allegedly withholding over Rs 2,151 crore in central education funds under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme for 2024-2025. A bench comprising Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan took note of the fact that the state government filed the petition in May alleging withholding of central funds for 2024 and this year also. "There is no urgency and it can be taken up after the 'partial working days' (the new name of summer vacation)," the bench said. In May, the Tamil Nadu government moved the top court against the Centre for allegedly withholding the funds. The DMK government's plea, filed against the Union Ministry of Education, invokes Article 131 of the Constitution which provides exclusive jurisdiction to the top court to hear pleas between the Centre and one or more states, or between one or more states. The state government alleged the Centre attempted to force the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the associated PM SHRI Schools Scheme which it strongly objected to, particularly the contentious three-language formula. The top court, therefore, was urged to declare that the NEP and the PM SHRI Schools Scheme are not binding on the plaintiff state unless and until a formal agreement is entered into between the plaintiff and the defendant for their implementation within Tamil Nadu. The lawsuit has also sought a declaration that the action of the Centre to link Tamil Nadu's entitlement to receive funds under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme to the implementation of the NEP, 2020, and the PM SHRI Schools Scheme within the state are unconstitutional, illegal, arbitrary, unreasonable. It has also urged the top court to declare the Centre's letters of February 23, 2024 and March 07, 2024 as illegal, null, void ab initio and not binding on the state government. The plea sought a direction to the Centre to pay "Rs 2,291,30,24,769 (two thousand two hundred and ninety-one crore thirty lakhs twenty-four thousand seven hundred and sixty-nine) within a time frame to be fixed by this court" along with a future interest of 6 per cent per annum on the "principal sum of Rs 2,151,59,61,000 (two thousand one hundred and fifty-one crore fifty nine lakh and sixty one thousand) from May 1, 2025 until realisation of the decree". The dispute stems from the non-release of central funds under the Scheme, a flagship centrally sponsored programme for school education aimed at universalising quality education. The Project Approval Board (PAB) of the Ministry of Education had approved a total outlay of Rs 3,585.99 crore for Tamil Nadu for FY 2024 25, of which the Union Government's committed 60 per cent share amounted to Rs 2,151.59 crore. The plea said despite this approval, no instalments have been disbursed by the Centre as yet. The Centre, it said, unilaterally linked the release of these funds to Tamil Nadu's full implementation of NEP 2020 and the signing of an MoU for the PM SHRI Schools Scheme, conditions which were neither part of the original Samagra Shiksha Scheme nor agreed upon by the state. The reason for such non-disbursement is that the defendant has linked the release of Samagra Shiksha Scheme funds with the implementation of national education policy and NEP exemplary PM SHRI Schools' Scheme despite the fact that these policy/scheme are separate schemes, it said. Referring to the impact of non-release of Samagra Shiksha funds, the plea said paying salaries was crucial in maintaining competent and motivated teachers and supporting staff. It directly impacts the quality of education provided to students and contributes to overall societal development by nurturing the next generation with the skills and knowledge needed for success, it added.
