Jimmy Fallon says he wasn't prepared for people not liking him: 'It's the absolute worst'
The thing that Jimmy Fallon wasn't prepared for when he became famous after joining Saturday Night Live in 1998 was that some people would always dislike him.
"It's the worst," Fallon said Monday on The Diary of a CEO podcast. "Yes, it is the absolute worst. I hate it. I want everyone to like me. I can't stand it. I go, 'Oh, my gosh. What can I do to make you like me?' I think the answer is you can't. You can't make everyone like you. You just have to do what you do. And do the best that you can at what you do. And be happy with yourself."
Other bummers he hadn't known about: "Getting rejection. Getting your sketches cut. Being told you're not funny."
He was grateful that it was before Twitter was around to capture the hatred.
"You think that it's just going to be, 'Oh, this is cool. Everyone will be great.' But then not everyone's rooting for you," Fallon said. "Some people want you to fail. People's jobs are to take me down and to put bad press out and stuff. That's their job, and you're just like, 'Ooh.' I don't live in that world. I don't believe that it's real, but it kind of is real and you go, 'Oh, people are just kind of being mean.'"
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon host explained that his way of dealing with the hate was to do his best to ignore it.
"You gotta, again, just toughen up and get through it and just keep your head down and keep being funny," he said. "And just keep doing things and keep being creative. If you move that out, you realize it's not even real. It's real, but it's noise and it doesn't affect you. You can only believe in yourself and know that you have to keep going and, if you keep scoring, that will show. Your work will show. That stuff I wasn't prepared for, of overcoming that. Overcoming hating on you or saying you're not good or something. You don't think that's going to happen. But it will if you're successful, because someone's not going to like you, no matter what."Fallon said he relied on the wise words of the Beastie Boys to get him through.
"I loved the Beastie Boys growing up, and there's that one line Mike D says: 'Be true to yourself, and you will never fall. It kind of is the move. Just be true to yourself. Then everyone can say whatever they want, [but] it's like, 'That's who I am.'"

'Squid Game' Creator Reveals He's Lost Over 10 Teeth Filming Netflix Series
Contestants on "Squid Game" may be losing their lives, but its creator is losing his teeth! Creator, writer, and director Hwang Dong-hyuk recently revealed that he lost about eight teeth filming the first season of the Netflix smash hit, and now he's lost a few more! A few weeks ahead of the season 3 premiere of 'Squid Game,' Hwang opened up on the stress that he has experienced while creating the Netflix hit. He told Entertainment Weekly that while he lost about 'eight or nine' teeth while making the first season, there were still a few more to go. "I thought it was going to be okay, but this time I had to pull out two more teeth as well," Hwang told the publication. "I had to pull out about eight teeth in season 1, and now I have two more teeth out, and I haven't put them back in yet. So I'm waiting for them." Even though it still took a toll on his health, Hwang admitted that it was easier for him to finish seasons 2 and 3, which will wrap up the story of Gi-Hun (also known as Play 456), who Emmy-award-winning actor Lee Jung-jae plays. "I do already have the universe and the space that I have envisioned come to life, so in a sense, season 2 and season 3 were easier compared to season 1," Hwang explained. "But the problem is that for season 2 and season 3, we had to shoot and write in one go.' 'It was as if we were making one season, and we tried as best as we could to bring in season 3 as fast as possible,' he continued. 'So the total amount was much larger, and we had to shoot for around one year, so it was very physically demanding." Last year, fans of the hit Netflix series watched Gi-hun lead a failed rebellion against the Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun. The second season ended on a dramatic note, with the Front Man killing Gi-hun's close friend, Jung-bae, right in front of him. With several contestants still remaining, Hwang teased that the games are going to be more gruesome than ever. "In the case of season 3, I wanted to introduce games that could really show the lowest bottom of human beings, because the series itself is reaching its climax," Hwang previously told Entertainment Weekly. "I wanted very intense games to bring out the bottom parts of human nature.' 'In season 1, we had lots of games like Tug of War that really utilized height and the fear that this height gives, but in the case of season 2, we didn't have that element,' he explained. 'That is why in season 3, I decided to introduce games that could really infuse fear in people with sheer height." Although there is a lot of bloodshed in store for his characters, Hwang revealed that 'season 3 is indeed a finale' that may not end in a completely dark place. "In the case of season 3, I wanted to take a slightly different approach — I wanted to focus on how [people] have to preserve their humanity amidst this intense competition in this capitalistic era," Hwang said. He went on to say, "I wanted to focus on how we can preserve our sense of humanity and how we should remain humans even amidst this intense competition. I try to pose that as a final question." Many fans on social media have been expressing their excitement over the show's upcoming third season, with some offering spin-off ideas to keep the "Squid Game" universe alive. Aimee Lou Wood And Walton Goggins Address Their Rumored Feud: ‘We Care About Each Other Very Deeply'
'There is no feud,' Walton Goggins says of his relationship with Aimee Lou Wood, his co-star in The White Lotus season 3, courtesy of a new interview with Variety. FIND OUT MORE ON ELLE COLLECTIVE That revelation might come as a surprise to series fans, some of whom have questioned the status of Goggins and Wood's friendship in the wake of the third season's debut earlier this spring. Feud rumors first circulated on the heels of comments by co-star Jason Isaacs, who repeatedly referred to 'social tensions' on the HBO drama's Thailand set. Those rumors were further inflamed by Goggins's physical separation from the rest of the ensemble cast, including Wood, post-wrap. As he explained to Variety, that distance wasn't personal: He's been preoccupied with production on Prime Video's Fallout season 2, and on the evening of The White Lotus season 3's finale, he was in New York for an appearance on a late-night show, far from his fellow cast members. In the latest chapter of showrunner Mike White's hit drama, Goggins and Wood play Rick and Chelsea, an unlikely pair of star-crossed lovers who meet a heart-breaking fate in the finale episode. During the Variety interview, in which Wood and Goggins were interviewed jointly, Goggins turned to Wood to express his sorrow at having missed the cast's finale watch party. 'I wish I would have been able to watch this with you,' he shared. 'It was so cathartic and so painful, and I regret that. I really do.' But as the two explained in the cathartic tell-all, they have nothing but love to share with each other, and their rumored 'feud' largely amounts to public misconception. 'I adore, I love this woman madly, and she is so important to me,' Goggins said of Wood. 'This is Goldie Hawn. This is Meg Ryan. She can do anything, and she will. You watch what the next 20 years of her experience will be. I'll be on an island, I think Greece. But she's special. There is no feud. She is love and I know that I am that to her. We care about each other very deeply.' In the days leading up to Goggins's recent Saturday Night Live hosting gig, the comedy show revealed a skit in which Sarah Sherman played a parody version of Wood's White Lotus character, Chelsea, complete with a pair of prosthetic buck teeth. Wood later went on Instagram to describe the sketch as 'mean and unfunny,' while Goggins reposted the clip and complimented its humor. Many viewers interpreted this move as a not-so-subtle swipe at Wood. Goggins told Variety it was anything but, and that after he encountered Wood's hurt response, he 'felt awful and deleted his post.' 'I've been posting for 14 fucking years, and if I'm gonna say something, I'm gonna say it to your face,' Goggins said. 'I don't use social media in any way, and I'm not a mean guy.' Added Wood, 'I think it's such a comment on where we're at culturally. Why is everyone obsessing over Instagram? That is irrelevant. We don't give a shite about Instagram.' Goggins also addressed why he unfollowed Wood on Instagram after The White Lotus wrapped, as well as his recent interview with the U.K.'s Times, which was published with the title, 'Walton Goggins: Aimee Lou Wood? I'm not gonna have that conversation.' Regarding the Times story, Goggins said he simply did not feel as if a solo interview was the right time and space to address his relationship with Wood. 'What am I gonna do, speak for both of us? Never,' he said. Regarding Instagram, he explained that he unfollowed Wood as a way to distance himself not from Wood herself but from the experience of filming The White Lotus. 'My catharsis in this experience was different than other people's, because of my history in this place,' Goggins said of his time in Thailand, referencing his time spent traveling the country in the wake of his wife's suicide in 2004. 'I knew what [Aimee and I] had gone through, and I knew how close that we had gotten, and I needed to begin to process saying goodbye to Rick and Chelsea,' Goggins continued. 'And I knew that that was going to take a while for me, so I let her know, this is what I've gotta do. And she was extremely supportive about that.' He continued, 'I needed to just back away from everyone. I haven't spoken to anyone [from the cast]. I couldn't handle it. Judge me or don't. I don't give a fuck what you think. This is my process. Rick means everything to me, and Chelsea means everything to me. And so that's what I needed to do for me to process all of this.' At the end of their conversation, Variety reports that Goggins re-followed Wood on Instagram, and that they embraced. 'I completely understand,' Wood told him. His response: 'I love you.'
