Netflix shows will, and already do, feature AI-generated scenes

AI-generated images, videos, and music are a contentious topic on the internet, but that's not going to stop Netflix from utilizing it. The streaming service has already used AI in one show prior that it's told the press about, and is now experimenting with the services provided by startup company Runway AI.Netflix recently confirmed that it had used generative AI for the show 'The Eternaut' this year. The show follows a global catastrophe that, at first, appears as something much different to what it actually is. I quite liked the show, though it may be a bit slow for those of you who prefer faster-paced TV.Netflix confirmed that it used AI to speed up the production process for a particular scene. Debate about this online has accused the company of cost-cutting and robbing artists of a job. Some claimed that the only process that was sped up was interference from higher-ups, as you can't yet finetune an AI model's output to your personal liking. Netflix has decided to continue utilizing AI for production, despite the backlash. Disney is also reportedly in talks with Runway AI, though the company says that it has no plans for incorporating AI into its products at this time.Netflix has made some very controversial decisions in the past: from canceling excellent shows, to hiking up its pricing, to displaying ads even on paid plans. Continuing to use AI is just another one of these decisions, one that will very likely be adopted by rivals soon.

The recent improvements in AI agents — models that can perform complex tasks on computers — only further risks putting many people out of work.
As with many technological advancements before — the camera, the record player, and the automobile jump to mind — AI will face strict condemnation. However, AI is here to stay, and will power many devices of the future. Netflix, in my eyes, is just one of the first to adopt a practice that is about to become very commonplace.

Meta offers one billion Dollars to AI researcher in crazy poaching spree, but they decline

Meta missed out on the smartphone boom, but CEO Mark Zuckerberg isn't letting the future of computing slip out of his hands. Alongside XR ( Extended Reality ), the company is throwing ridiculous amounts of money at AI researchers, including a whopping one billion Dollars in one case. Meta reportedly ( subscription required ) recently approached over a dozen AI researchers working at Thinking Machines Lab. The company wanted them to join its new 'Meta Superintelligence Labs' instead, which is being staffed mostly by all of the AI researchers that are being poached from competitors. One employee was offered a billion Dollars, to be paid out over the course of a few years. Other offers ranged from $500 million to as 'low' as $200 million, which would be paid over four years. Some of the researchers were guaranteed to make up to $100 million in just their first year at Meta the craziest thing is that no one has taken Meta up on its insane offers. The company just successfully poached a fourth AI researcher from Apple in just the past month, but apparently no one at Thinking Machines Lab was it's not clear why, anonymous sources claim that it's because the researchers have a problem with Meta's leadership. Salaries at Thinking Machines Lab are around $500,000 a year, so they're not exactly hurting for cash, but a billion Dollars is a ludicrous amount of money that not many could have resisted. The future of computing, according to Meta. | Image credit — Meta It's no secret why Meta is so obsessed with AI researchers: Artificial Intelligence will be the backbone of the future of computing that Zuckerberg is trying to usher in: AR glasses. Meta has poured billions of Dollars into Reality Labs, its XR division. The company is offering affordable VR headsets like the Meta Quest 3, as well as other solutions like the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses. In the end, Meta wants to be the first to market with a consumer version of the Orion smart glasses. And, in my opinion, I think that Zuckerberg is on to something. Apple, Samsung, and Google — as well as some Chinese manufacturers — are all jumping into XR and making AR glasses of their own. If this truly is the future of computing, then Meta is determined to dominate the industry before it even takes off.

A new Google Photos feature could make photo editing feel like texting a friend

If you are using an Android phone – or better yet, a Pixel phone or Galaxy phone – you are probably already swimming in AI features thanks to Google's full-on Gemini takeover. The company has been stuffing its AI into just about every product it owns and naturally, Google Photos hasn't been left out. Google Photos is hugely popular on both Android and iOS and it already offers some cool generative AI tools like Magic Editor, Magic Eraser and Reimagine. But now, it looks like there's another one on the way – and this one sounds even more hands-off. The new feature might be called 'Help me edit' and it's exactly what it sounds like: instead of poking through menus, you just type what kind of edit you want, and Gemini takes care of the rest. You can drop in whatever instructions you want – like tweaking colors or changing the mood of a photo – and Gemini will do the magic for you. You'll also get suggestions from Google Photos itself if you're not sure where to start. With "Help me edit" changing the color of your car is super easy. | Image credit – Telegram user Zach Allen Where Reimagine encourages short prompts with nouns and adjectives, 'Help me edit' feels more like writing to a smart assistant. You can be more detailed and conversational with your instructions, which makes the whole experience feel a lot more natural – almost like editing in the Gemini app itself, not just Google Photos. We still don't know when exactly Google will roll out this feature or if the tech giant is just testing it, but we will make sure to let you know once there are more details. Honestly, it is no surprise that Google is pushing even more AI into Photos. This is clearly the direction we are heading in – whether we like it or not. And sure, it's super convenient. But let's be real: it's getting harder and harder to tell what is real and what has been AI-tweaked to perfection. I mean, swapping out a cloudy sky for a perfect blue one in your personal memories? Not sure why you'd want to, but hey – with such tools, it's now just a prompt away.

Ray-Ban Meta sales triple, while Apple's answer is nowhere in sight

While Apple CEO Tim Cook is reportedly dreaming of releasing AI-powered smart glasses for the masses, Meta is extending its lead in the market. The sales of the Ray-Ban Meta glasses have more than tripled in the first half of this year, and it looks like there's no one to challenge them. Meta's partner in the smart glasses development, EssilorLuxottica, just released its financial results for the second quarter and the first half of 2025, and Bloomber reports that they're glowing. The company says the sales of the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses have grown more than 200% in the first half, and the revenue for the second quarter grew 7.3% compared to last year. Smart glasses are still a small part of both Meta and EssilorLuxottica's businesses, but both companies seem to have high expectations about them. In June, they announced a successor to the Ray-Ban model – the Oakley AI performance glasses – and the expectations for them are big. Francesco Milleri, EssilorLuxottica CEO, July 28, 2025 The Ray-Ban Meta has been on sale for almost two years, but recently, they received a bunch of new features. Some of the highlights were the wider release of the live translation feature and the glasses' ability to give answers about the things their cameras now, Meta is more or less unrivaled in the smart glasses market with little competition in sight. The company is also working on the Orion AI Glasses, which will feature a display. Recent rumors also pointed to a possible Ray-Ban model with a display, which might be released later this year. Apple seems more focused on the XR segment with rumors of an Apple Vision Pro 2. Whenever Apple joins Meta, it'd be late, but so far, there aren't even very specific rumors about such a move from the Cupertino giant. Samsung is also more focused on a different type of device. The company has announced it might be re-entering the market with Project Moohan, which would be a mixed reality headset. However, that might not be the company's vision for the future if recent reports turn out to be true. I love the idea of the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, despite my privacy concerns. It appears I am not alone, and consumers also like them, so I'd guess it's only a matter of time before we see more competition, which would be utterly exciting.
