Bad news for consumers as Amul milk prices hiked by Rs...; check new prices here
Amul Milk Price Hike: Amul milk prices have been hiked by Rs 2 per litre, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) said in an official release on Wednesday. As per the statement, the price rise will come into effect from May 1, 2025 (Thursday), and will affect all variants of Amul milk sold across the country.
The GCMMF, which owns the Amul dairy brand, cited an increase in input costs in production as the reason behind the Amul milk price rise, and asserted that a Rs 2/litre hike roughly translates into a range of 3-4 per cent hike in MRP (maximum retail price) which is much lower than average food inflation.
'GCMMF, the marketer of milk and milk products under the brand name of Amul, has increased the prices of fresh pouch milk by Rs 2 per litre effective from May 1, 2025, in all markets across the country,' said the Anand, Gujarat-based federation which markets dairy products under the popular 'Amul' brand. According to the statement, after the hike comes into effect from Thursday, a 500ml pouch of Amul Gold milk will be available for Rs 34, while one litre pouch of the same brand will cost Rs 67 in Gujarat.
A 500ml pouch of 'Shakti' variant will now cost 31 in Gujarat, while a 500ml pouch of Cow Milk will be available for Rs 29.
One litre pouch of Buffalo Milk pouch will cost Rs 73, while one litre of 'Taaza' pouch will be sold for Rs 55 from May 1, the federation said while pointing out that it has not increased prices of fresh pouch milk since June 2024.
'This price hike is being done due to an increase in input costs of production of milk to our 36 lakh milk producers. Our member unions have also increased farmers prices in the same proportion over the last one year,' it said.

Mandya farmers hire migrant labourers for cultivation work
Mysuru: After the coffee planters from Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu districts, it is now the turn of the paddy growers from Mandya district to hire the services of labourers from north and northeastern states for paddy cultivation. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The farmers claim that these migrant labourers are faster compared to local labourers. According to farmers, labour agents connect them with these migrant labourers on a commission basis. Chikkapalya, a tiny village in Srirangapatna taluk of Mandya district, located 4 kms from the taluk headquarters, has a population of 2,000. The majority of the villagers are engaged in paddy cultivation. After Cauvery water from the KRS dam was released, paddy cultivation has sped up. It is 15 labourers from north and northeastern Indian states who are helping these farmers in their cultivation. They charge Rs 4,500 per acre for uprooting seedlings and planting them in the paddy fields. Every day, they complete paddy cultivation in 3 acres. According to DM Ravi, a 55-year-old progressive farmer who has studied up to II PUC, currently 15 of these labourers are working in the village. "They are very fast, completing the work quickly. Every day, they complete the cultivation in an average of three acres of paddy field. They first arrived for work during the last harvesting season. Now, they have come again,' he explained. According to the farmers, earlier, farm labourers from Tamil Nadu were arriving for both cultivation and harvesting, who are now replaced by the labourers from north and northeastern Indian states. Even though they don't know Kannada language, and locals don't know Hindi, it is not affecting work. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Around 500 such labourers are now working across the district, explain farmers' leaders. Kempugowda, president of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha's Mandya district unit, said it is the agents who connect the farmers and the labourers. "They charge Rs 500 from the labourers for the work they get. They provide them shelter in the villages to stay during their work," he said. "Even though the cultivation work was once dominated by women workforce, these migrant workers are smarter than the local labourers. Farm labour shortage is one of the challenges faced by the district farmers. These migrant labourers come as an answer," he said.
