We like to outsmart the opponent: Gill
New Delhi: Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill revealed that the 'skill of outsmarting the opposition' is what makes his batting partnership with Sai Sudharsan so effective. He added that 'reading conditions and assessing the situation' is why his side's tactical awareness remains key to their success in the IPL 2025.
As an opening pair in IPL 2025, Sudharsan and Gill have amassed 839 runs, at an average of 76.27, with seven 50-plus stands - three of them going past the 100-mark.
The duo stitched the highest partnership for Gujarat Titans in T20s with their unbeaten 205-run first-wicket stand at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday as GT booked their spot in the playoffs with a 10-wicket win over Delhi Capitals.
'I think the way we bat is not exactly similar, but the left-right combination helps. We both run very well between the wickets, and we're the kind of players who like to outsmart the opponent - including the bowlers,' Gill said on the episode of JioHotstar's Gen Bold.

'How can BCCI be held responsible?': IPL chairman says board had 'no control' as stampede hits RCB's Bengaluru event
The BCCI has clarified that it had no role in organising the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) post-title celebration in the city, which turned tragic after a stampede outside the venue left at least 11 people dead and nearly 50 injured. RCB's victory in IPL 2025 ended an 18-year drought and brought the city to a standstill. Thousands of fans gathered outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to celebrate the historic win, but the sheer volume of the crowd overwhelmed the arrangements, leading to chaos and fatalities. The event, however, continued inside the packed stadium despite the tragedy unfolding just outside. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal expressed deep sorrow over the incident but was firm in stating that the BCCI could not be held accountable. 'It is sad and tragic. The celebrations turned into a tragedy. Our heartfelt condolences go to the families who lost their loved ones. For the BCCI, the IPL concluded last night. We had no knowledge of such an incident occurring, so how can we be held responsible for it?' Dhumal told India Today. He also pointed out the lack of involvement or presence of IPL officials during the event. 'How can we be held responsible for something like this? It is indeed a very tragic incident, and we extend our deepest condolences. But we cannot be held accountable for something over which we had no control. I am not certain if the stampede occurred directly outside the stadium—I have no specific knowledge of that. Have you seen any IPL officials present at the gate, managing the crowd or facilitating the players' entry?' asked Dhumal. Dhumal revealed that upon learning of the incident, he contacted RCB officials and asked for the event to be wrapped up. "Have I been in touch with RCB officials? Yes, as soon as I was informed about the incident, I spoke to them. They told me they were inside the stadium and had no knowledge of what was happening outside. Based on that conversation, I was told they immediately called off the event," Dhumal added. Earlier, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had also issued a response on the tragedy. 'I think there were some lapses. The BCCI has no role in it. But it's a lesson to learn. We will look into forming new rules for such victory celebrations going forward,' Saikia had said.

Shreyas Iyer scripts history in IPL, becomes only captain after MS Dhoni to...
Shreyas Iyer (L) and MS Dhoni (R). New Delhi: The Punjab Kings, captained by Shreyas Iyer, narrowly lost the IPL 2025 final to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six runs. Despite a large crowd at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, Punjab Kings were unable to reach the 191-run target set by Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Despite impressive performances of 97 and 87 runs in earlier IPL 2025 matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Shreyas Iyer's contribution to the final was limited to a single run off two balls. Punjab Kings fans had anticipated a stronger showing from him. Shreyas Iyer joins MS Dhoni as one of only two captains to have lost multiple IPL finals. Dhoni previously lost three finals with Chennai Super Kings, and Iyer's loss in the 2025 IPL final marks his second such defeat. In the IPL, expensive player Shreyas Iyer's teams, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, lost the 2020 and 2025 finals respectively. Shreyas is the only one to have lost in the IPL finals as captain of two different teams. In his first season as captain of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) after getting Rs 26.75 crore in the auction, Shreyas Iyer achieved 604 runs in 17 matches.

Amid Kannada language row, Kamal Haasan reacts to ‘heart-wrenching' Bengaluru stampede during RCB parade
Actor Kamal Haasan is "deeply distressed' to read about the stampede mishap outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru celebrated their maiden IPL title win in 18 years. He has expressed grief over the tragic incident. Also read: Virat Kohli breaks silence on Bengaluru stampede that killed 11 as RCB IPL celebrations go haywire: 'Absolutely gutted' Kamal took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express grief over the incident, saying his 'heart reaches out' to affected families. 'Heart wrenching tragedy in Bangalore. Deeply distressed and my heart reaches out to the families of the victims in this moment of grief. May the injured recover soon,' he posted. Kamal's comment came amid an ongoing controversy over his recent remarks on the Kannada language, which have been a subject of intense discussion. Kamal is getting backlash for his remarks suggesting that 'Kannada was born out of Tamil' ahead of the release of his film Thug Life. The Mani Ratnam-directed film has been barred from release in Karnataka. Recently, the Karnataka High Court slammed his statement and called him out for not apologising. Celebration of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) maiden IPL title turned into a tragedy after 11 people were crushed to death and another 47 injured following a stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy stadium on Wednesday evening. The incident has raised serious questions about police preparedness and organisational planning. The RCB's celebration started with the franchise visiting the Vidhana Soudha to meet Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The Karnataka CM felicitated the IPL 2025 champions before the players made their way to the Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, before their arrival at the venue, news of a stampede broke out, which caused fatalities. Owing to the stampede in Bengaluru outside RCB's home venue, the victory celebrations were cut short. Only RCB captain Rajat Patidar and Virat Kohli gave speeches before flaunting the trophy in front of the fully-packed crowd inside the Chinnaswamy Stadium. RCB, on Tuesday, had won the IPL 2025 title after defeating Punjab Kings in the final in Ahmedabad.
