Mumbai: Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) was appointed as the nodal agency to plan and develop a Multimodal Transport Hub (MMTH) as part of Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP). This move was formalised through a govt resolution issued on June 18, following a high-level meeting chaired by the chief minister on Apr 21.The proposed hub aims to bring Metro, suburban rail, buses, and non-motorised transport under one umbrella, offering seamless integration for commuters passing through Dharavi — one of the city's most densely populated and poorly connected neighbourhoods. MMRDA was asked to coordinate with Dharavi Redevelopment Authority and all transport bodies concerned to draft a comprehensive layout and implementation plan.MMTH will also ensure easy access to Sion station on Central Railway and Mahim station on Western Railway, both located on either side of the redevelopment zone.As part of the larger redevelopment vision, a second Metro station is being considered for Dharavi. Besides the under-construction Metro Line 3 (Colaba-Bandra-Seepz), the area is expected to be connected by an extension of Metro Line 11 (Wadala-CSMT). Sources said this line is likely to be extended westward from Wadala to link with Metro Line 3 at Dharavi, enabling a crucial east-west and north-south interchange point. The Rs 16,000 crore Metro Line 11 project, implemented by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL), includes two proposed stations—one near Sion and another within Dharavi.To support the bus component of the hub, DRP plans to build a modern depot for BEST. In return, 12 acres of land currently occupied by the Dharavi and Kalakilla bus depots in Sion East—which jointly accommodate around 300 buses and house key offices of the transport and power supply divisions—will be handed over for MMTH.Officials said the plan goes beyond Metro integration, with infrastructure for feeder buses, walking, and cycling for last-mile connectivity. "The intent is to build a future-ready mobility hub, not just a station," said an official. Feeder routes are being drawn up to link nearby areas with Metro and rail stations.

On Tuesday, Fadnavis will attend three separate functions organised by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). These will include the inauguration of the 2.75-km flyover connecting Mumbai University to Vile Parle, aimed at easing the notorious Santacruz bottleneck; a new bridge between Kalanagar and Dharavi to improve east-west connectivity; and a Metro motormen training centre at Mandale, which will save operators the trouble of travelling to Hyderabad and other cities for training. The chief minister will also inaugurate MMRDA staff quarters at Malvani. Another key highlight will be the symbolic handover of keys to 556 tenants from the redeveloped BDD chawls in Worli — marking the completion of the project's first phase — followed by the opening of the International Experience Centre at the Dabbewala Bhavan in Bandra West.

Reconstruction of Belasis flyover to be completed by Dec 31, 2025
Mumbai: The reconstruction of Belasis flyover, which connects Tardeo-Nagpada and Mumbai Central railway station, has progressed significantly. The 130-year-old British-era Belasis bridge is being demolished and reconstructed — while the is carrying out work within the railway jurisdiction, the BMC is carrying out construction of the approach roads. Thereafter, the railways has commenced work on girder bracing, bridge deck surface construction, and slab casting and this phase will involve 40 blocks. The civic body aims to finish the Belasis bridge construction by Dec 31. The BMC, along with MMRDA, has entered into an agreement with MRIDC to construct a cable-stayed bridge over the railway line near Mumbai Central Station. Although the project's completion was initially scheduled for April 2026, additional commissioner (projects) Abhijit Bangar has directed that construction be completed by the end of Dec 2025. Aspects such as soil testing, foundation work, and pillar construction for the bridge have been completed, and obstructing structures have been removed. As many as 40 girders are needed for the eastern approach road, of which four have already been installed. The Western Railway completed installing 12 girders by Aug 10 within the railway portion. Girder bracing, bridge deck surface construction, and slab casting are expected to be completed by Sept 14, 2025. The BMC plans to complete the entire work on the bridge by Dec 31, 2025, Bangar said.

The report said that with this purchase, Brookfield now occupies approximately 250,000 sq ft across three contiguous floors in the same building. The additional space acquired by Brookfield was earlier owned by Jet Airways. The deal also grants exclusive parking rights and transfers Jet Airways' seat on the building's management board to Brookfield, elevating its strategic influence over building operations, the report said. These deals have been reported in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai's most expensive commercial district. Given Mumbai's limited land availability, vacant land deals are rare in the city's financial hub. However, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the special planning authority (SPA) for BKC, successfully leased five land parcels from its landbank earlier this year for a term of 80 years, generating close to ₹5,000 crore in revenue. Out of the five land deals, one deal also included that of a consortium led by Brookfield, including Schloss Bangalore Ltd, Arliga Ecospace, and Schloss Chanakya Pvt. Ltd., which won the bid to lease 8,411 sq meters of land in BKC's G Block. The land parcel has a development potential of 33,647 sq meters and will be leased for 80 years at ₹1,302 crore, MMRDA had said on April 4. BKC has several government offices, including MMRDA, Goods and Services Tax (GST), Reserve Bank of India, Income Tax Department, and Family Court. The US consulate is also located there near the Jio Convention Centre. Luxury hotels such as Sofitel and Trident are also in BKC.
