Uttam taps CWC for allotment of water to PRIL, Sammakka projects
The Minister requested a total water allocation of 90 tmcft for PRLIS, with an immediate sanction of 45 tmcft in the first phase, citing that Telangana had already complied with all procedural and documentation requirements laid down by the CWC.
Similarly, the Sammakka-Sarakka Barrage, located at Thupakulagudem in Mulugu district, is designed to stabilise irrigation for nearly 5.55 lakh hectares under the JChokka Rao Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme and the Sriram Sagar Project (stages I and II). With a total capacity of 6.94 tmcft, the barrage will also cater to drinking water needs of several villages along its route.
Uttam urged the CWC to expedite the allocation of 44 tmcft for the Sammakka-Sarakka project, noting that all necessary maps and documentation had been submitted. He underlined the importance of early approval to ensure that agrarian communities dependent on these projects are not left vulnerable to recurring droughts.
In addition to these project-specific matters, the Minister expressed serious concerns over the illegal diversion of Krishna River water by Andhra Pradesh. He called on the CWC to immediately install telemetry instruments at critical points along the river to monitor water flows and prevent unauthorised withdrawals. He pointed out that Telangana had already released its financial share for the installation of these instruments to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB).
Highlighting another major concern, Uttam Kumar Reddy drew attention to the potential backwater threat from the Polavaram Project. He urged the CWC to undertake a fresh assessment of backwater impacts on Telangana's border villages and recommend necessary safeguards to prevent flooding and displacement.

Over a month after two Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] members in Pathanamthitta publicly criticised Health Minister Veena George in the wake of the collapse of a building at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kottayam, the party has initiated disciplinary action against them. Party sources said here on Thursday that the Eraviperoor area committee has recommended to the district committee that former Child Welfare Committee (CWC) chairman N. Based on this, the Ranni area committee meeting held on Wednesday assigned the temporary charge of secretary to K.P. Subhash Kumar. Centre's statement nailed Cong govt's lies on public debt: KTR
Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao said the Centre's statement in the Parliament had shattered the Congress government's false claims on the outstanding public debt of Telangana under BRS rule. The Union government on Monday clarified that the State's debt at the end of the BRS tenure was Rs 3.5 lakh crore, not Rs.8 lakh crore as repeatedly alleged by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy along with Congress and BJP leaders. 'This is a slap in the face to Revanth Reddy and his gang, who peddled blatant lies to malign the BRS before the Assembly elections,' Rama Rao said, asking whether those leaders who spread false propaganda would now apologise to the people. In a statement, Rama Rao asserted that the BRS never indulged in reckless borrowing. Loans were channelled into long-term assets such as Mission Bhagiratha, Mission Kakatiya, Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and other infrastructure works. As of 2023-24, Telangana's assets were valued at Rs 4.15 lakh crore, which was Rs 64,579 crore higher than its debt. He pointed out that for six consecutive years, assets had grown by over Rs 50,000 crore annually, which was proof of the financial discipline and vision under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. Turning the tables on the Congress, the BRS working president said Revanth Reddy was going on an aggressive borrowing spree without asset creation. 'By his own admission in the Assembly, Revanth Reddy has borrowed over Rs 1.5 lakh crore since December 2023. Where are the new projects? Where are the promised welfare schemes?' he asked, warning that chaotic fiscal management was driving Telangana toward a crisis. Rama Rao also urged the Congress leadership to stop hiding behind lies and focus on genuine development. 'The facts are now out in Parliament's own records. The people deserve the truth,' he said.
