Lupin ties up with Sandoz to commercialise biosimilar product

New Delhi, Aug 12 (PTI) Drug firm Lupin on Tuesday said it has partnered with Switzerland-based Sandoz Group AG to commercialise its biosimilar ranibizumab across multiple regions.
Under the terms of the agreement, Sandoz will oversee commercialisation of the product across the European Union (excluding Germany), Switzerland, Norway, Australia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Malaysia, the Mumbai-based drug maker said in a statement.
Lupin will be responsible for manufacturing the product and for regulatory submissions, it added.
As per the deal, Sandoz will hold exclusive marketing rights in most of the designated markets, except for France, Australia, Vietnam, and Malaysia, where it will have semi-exclusive marketing rights, Lupin Ltd said.
Pursuant to another agreement executed between the two companies, Sandoz will acquire sole rights for commercialization of Lupin's biosimilar ranibizumab in Canada, while Lupin will manage its manufacture and regulatory filings, it added.
Ranibizumab is a recombinant humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody fragment that binds to and inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A).
Its indications encompass the treatment of patients with neovascular (Wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD), macular edema following retinal vein occlusion (RVO), diabetic macular edema (DME) among others.
'This partnership underscores our shared vision to expand global access to cutting-edge biologic therapies and improve outcomes for underserved patients," Lupin President EMEA and Emerging Markets Thierry Volle said.

Zaggle Q1 profit jumps 56% YoY to Rs 26 crore; revenue up 32%
Spend management platform Zaggle Prepaid Ocean Services reported a 56.2% year-on-year (YoY) increase in net profit to Rs 26.1 crore for the June quarter, driven by revenue growth across segments and new customer from operations rose 31.6% YoY to Rs 331.9 crore, while adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation (Ebitda) rose 27.9% to Rs 32.7 Hyderabad-based company added several strategic clients during the quarter, including Hindustan Pencils, Apollo Health, Mo Engage, Novozymes, DTDC, CK Birla Healthcare, and Truecaller. Engaged with China to resume border trade: India
New Delhi, Aug 14 (PTI) India on Thursday said it remained engaged with China to facilitate the resumption of border trade through designated transit points. The border trade between the two countries was stopped in view of the eastern Ladakh military standoff in 2020. 'We have remained engaged with the Chinese side to facilitate the resumption of border trade through all the designated trade points, namely Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand, Shipki La Pass in Himachal Pradesh, and Nathu La Pass in Sikkim," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said. It is learnt that India and China are at an 'advanced stage" of negotiations to resume direct flight services between the two countries soon. In the last few months, India and China have initiated a number of measures to repair the bilateral ties that had severely nosedived following the deadly clashes between the two militaries in June 2020. Last month, India announced the resumption of issuance of tourist visas to Chinese nationals. The military standoff in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020 and the clashes at the Galwan Valley in June that year resulted in a severe strain in ties between India and China. The face-off effectively ended following completion of the disengagement process from the last two friction points of Demchok and Depsang under an agreement finalised on October 21 last year. SpaceX could soon offer Starlink satellite internet service on Saudi Arabia's flag carrier
Saudia, formerly known as Saudi Arabian Airlines, the flag carrier of Saudi Arabia, is reportedly in advanced talks with Elon Musk's SpaceX to provide Starlink satellite internet service onboard its flights. According to Bloomberg, Saudi is finalising a deal with SpaceX to roll out the Starlink internet service across its fleet of more than 140 aircraft. The Jeddah-based airline has flight operations across the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. Qatar Airways, another major carrier in the Middle East, has been offering Starlink satellite internet service onboard its flights since 2024. In fact, Qatar Airways was the first global airline to operate a Boeing 777 Starlink-equipped flight. Currently, over 40 of Qatar Airways's Boeing 777 aircraft have Starlink satellite internet connectivity. The airline is in the process of a full rollout of Starlink to its Boeing 777 and A350 fleets by the end of 2025. In May this year, Saudi Arabia had approved the use of SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet service for aviation and maritime shipping. According to Saudi officials, Starlink, which uses low Earth orbit satellites for broadband coverage, will be used to offer reliable connectivity for the aviation and maritime industries in remote areas. Musk also has deep business ties with Saudi Arabia, and both Prince Alwaleed bin Talal's private office and his Kingdom Holding Company have stakes in xAI.
